A priori reasoning and results of Sim's casuality tests suggest that in most cases changes in farm prices cause changes in retail prices rather than the reverse or a simultaneous relationship. Markup price relationships are estimated. Most of the variation of retail prices is explained by the current farm price, lagged farm prices, a wage variable, and last period's retail price of a substitute product.","PeriodicalId":146173,"journal":{"name":"Review of marketing and agricultural economics","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121864124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While these intentions include wide ranging increases in market power for this supreme marketing authority, the overall proposals in their entirety, are argued as necessary to operationalize newly available wool selling and handling innovations. Supporting empirical evidence on the gains from adopting these innovations relies on spatial equilibrium models not fully in accord with the economic theory on which they are based. This paper sets out the shortcomings of these back-up studies. Based on a reconsideration of the theoretical premises, counter policy measures are advanced for consideration.","PeriodicalId":146173,"journal":{"name":"Review of marketing and agricultural economics","volume":"307 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132485018","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results indicate that intensification, based on tropical pastures, is the appropriate development strategy for dairy farmers in this area, and that substantial increases in production are possible. Present lending policies of trading banks would provide adequate finance for farm development to a farmer who has high equity. It would appear that a substantial change from traditional attitudes towards dairying will be necessary before full advantage can be gained from the new pasture species available.","PeriodicalId":146173,"journal":{"name":"Review of marketing and agricultural economics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133576612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
