The elementary cell consists of a square patch slotcoupled to a phase shifting circuit with 1-bit phase resolution (0°/180°), operating at 76.5GHz. Reconfigurability is obtained with RF MEMS switches integrated in the elementary cell. The problem of reconfigurability of reflectarray antennas based on RF MEMS technology is addressed within the European FP7 project called ARASCOM. Since thousands of reconfigurable elementary cells are employed, reducing the number of tuneable components is of fundamental importance for the practical realization of the reflectarray. A dramatic reduction of the number of tuneable devices is shown to be achievable without performance degradation by a proper architecture based on 1-bit digital phase shifting. A heterogeneous High Resolution European Female Head (HR-EFH) with twenty five different tissues is used to simulate the human head, whereas four semi-realistic CAD models, i.e., candy-bar with external antenna, candy-bar with internal antenna, clamshell with external antenna, and clamshell with internal antenna, operating at 900 MHz with antenna output power of 600 mW are used to simulate the commercially available mobile phone models. Most existing methods cannot account for the broadband nature of the ECG signals, producing foetal ECG (FECG) estimates that are not sufficiently accurate. We propose a novel way of addressing this problem: the broadband equivalent of principal component analysis (PCA) is applied through the use of an algorithm that generalises the eigenvalue decomposition (EVD) to polynomial matrices; FECG extraction is achieved by way of an orthonormal projection of the data onto the broadband foetal subspace, whereby the maternal ECG and noise components are suppressed. The algorithm is contrasted with conventional PCA and the classical multi-reference adaptive noise cancelling method. The three techniques are applied to real multi-channel ECG recordings obtained from a pregnant woman. This paper introduces solutions to two important features of such a device; the antenna and the filter. These are both microwave resonant structures and so share design trade-offs and restrictions; in this application they must both offer some degree of tunability or wideband performance. MEMS technology is proposed as the enabler for reconfigurability in the distributed microwave structures. Using microwave experiments and Fresnel formulas, we have investigated the refractive index properties of these structures. We have measured experimentally both the transmittance and the reflectance properties and found unambiguously that the refractive index of the periodic layered medias decreased depending on periodicity of the geometric arrangement, dielectric contrast and filling fraction of metallic layers. Our results show the effects of thin metallic layers on the refractive index, reflection and transmission properties of a multilayer periodic structure. The proposed module houses processors (DC, IF and Microwave), cameras and batteries rechargeable by solar energy. Conformal solar panel and antenna are mounted on at least two of its surfaces. At least one inclined surface for maximum sunlight exposure is required for the solar panel. Multi-beam property of the antenna together with the module side adjustment will cover a complete hemisphere which satisfies the line of sight communication at the desired microwave ISM band. These ring junctions are compared in terms of occupied area on the circuit board, frequency bandwidth and power loss. The miniaturization techniques include open stubs added, lumped-element capacitive shunt loading, stepped-impedance slow-wave lines and series-connected EBG cells. Generally observable trends show that bandwidth is linearly proportional to the occupied board area and power loss is inversely linear proportional to area.
