To provide compensation due to process, voltage and temperature (PVT) variations and achievement of best performance, the PG is capable of adjusting the Power Spectral Density (PSD) modifying the generated pulse amplitude and duration. Furthermore, the spectrum center frequency can be tuned by changing the frequency of the voltage controlled ring oscillator. Post-layout simulations show the pulse amplitude of 315 mV and the pulse duration around 1 ns. The generated signal spectrum fully complies with the FCC spectral regulations. The total power consumption is only 933 μW with supply voltage of 1.8 V. This corresponds to energy consumption of 11.67 pJ/pulse for a 80 MHz pulse repetition frequency (PRF). The arrays are with pentagonal dipoles as radiating elements operating at a second resonance. The used distribution is chosen to enable high side lobe suppressions bigger than 41.5 dB at the frequency of 12 GHz. The feeding network in symmetrical (balanced) microstrip technique with impedance transformers is presented too. The antenna arrays with the high side lobe suppression are very sensitive in small deviation of distribution coefficients from ideal that can results in decreasing SLS values. Therefore, human presence in an indoor environment can be recognized by analyzing and quantifying irregularities in the radio signature. In order to quantify the information in terms of human presence, we present a novel human presence detection method based on information entropy extracted from a sequence of received signal strength samples. As opposed to existing smart home solutions that incorporate a complex set of sensors for human detection, the proposed method is solely based on radio irregularity phenomenon, without modifying the original environment. Their usage fosters many operational wireless network procedures such as spectrum access, spectrum sharing, resource usage optimization etc. Additionally, REMs are foreseen as a supplementary tool for regulation of spectrum usage. This paper covers both theoretical and practical aspects of efficient REM system design and REM construction in general. It showcases the synergy between spectrum sensing techniques and geolocation database approaches towards accurate and up-to-date radio field estimation. Furthermore, the paper provides details on recent research advances in the area of REM construction, Radio Interference Fields (RIF) derivation, source localization and propagation modelling. A unified approach is applied to the analysis of designs of MPEG-H HEVC, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, and H.262/MPEG-2 Video reference implementation. The results of subjective tests for selected HD format sequences indicate that HEVC encoders can achieve equivalent subjective broadcast quality as encoders that conform to AVC when using approximately 50% less bit rate on average. Implementations of the circuit in various mature fabrication technologies, covering millimeter wave frequencies up to 94 GHz, are exemplified. Circuit characterisation method using a precision network analyser and on-wafer measurements are described in details. Measurement results of various passive circuits, from a novel power-divider to a 60 GHz six-port circuit, are discussed, validating very good S-parameter and qi point performances.
