Noise reduction is a key factor for robot audition. It requires some tuning depending on the environment, and we normally set the parameter of noise reduction system so that the error between the objective signal and the signal after noise reduction becomes minimal. However, the objective signal is usually unknown in practice, and the recognition rate is not always the best when the error is minimal. In this paper, spectral subtraction is selected as a simple noise reduction method to evaluate our approach, and the performance of the proposed method is investigated.","PeriodicalId":142783,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117319249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to achieve the size reduction, additional equivalent capacitance and equivalent inductance are produced in three design steps. The total capacitance and inductance of the proposed structure will be increased much more than the one of the mushroom-like EBG in the literature. Dispersion diagram is presented to show the bandgap characteristics. The comparison between the proposed EBG structure and different EBG structures are carried out. The proposed EBG structure exhibit a tremendous size reduction of 61%. With the aim of reducing the mutual coupling of the array patch antenna, a 2×7 EBG cells are inserted between two elements of an array antenna operating at 5.1 GHz. As the measured results, the mutual coupling has been reduced 20 dB than the one of array antenna without EBG structures.","PeriodicalId":142783,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133755191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Applicable to a variety of computational mechanisms using disparate kernels, a parallel-routing network has been developed, which is, compared to the state-of-art structure, exploring the best of its parallel nature for an improved timing performance. Furthermore, we assure that the proposed structure has no degradation in neither computation accuracy nor hardware complexity. With this structure, the LUT-based method becomes the optimal solution as a whole to implement an SPC decoder and other decoders containing it, like, for example, a low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoder. The improvement of the proposed design has been verified by a field-programmable gate array (FPGA), showing a 186% increase in clock rate for a 32-degree SPC decoder.","PeriodicalId":142783,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"58-60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134282585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the advancement of science and technology, inexpensive and versatile phones can be easily found at one's disposal. The field of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is also promoted, as OCR mobile applications are increasingly chosen. This paper addresses an approach to solve one challenging issue of OCR, which is, recognition of text images taken by mobile phones at remote distances. These images usually appear in small font size and at low resolution, as a result, yield very poor outcomes when fed to OCR systems. The remote text images are first analyzed using the vertical projection profile. Then the words and characters are extracted, respectively, after determining the location of peaks and space in the graph. Finally, SIFT algorithm is applied in recognition stage, using the low resolution text templates collected, to find the best match for the texts. The results showed an improved performance in OCR recognition rate, compared to OCR reading software.","PeriodicalId":142783,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"284 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132231112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed TR module consists of a circulator, a power amplifier and a low-noise amplifier, which are fabricated using hybrid microwave integrated circuit technology. Amplifier design procedures are presented with focuses on stability improvement, wideband matching and noise matching techniques to improve amplifiers' performances. The designed power amplifier with good input and output matching exhibits 15-dB power gain and provides measured output power of 15.1 dBm and OP1dB of 22.5 dBm. The designed low noise amplifier has a very low measured noise figure of 2 dB and a high gain of 20 dB over the whole bandwidth, good input/output matching is also achieved with measured S11 and S22 smaller than -10 and -12 dB, respectively. Amplifiers are integrated with circulator to build a complete TR module which helps extend operating range of radar and wireless communication systems.","PeriodicalId":142783,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123814897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is hypothetically that, the performance in terms of MAC throughput and delay of CSMA/CA-adopted MU-MIMO WLANs significantly degrade as the number of active stations increases, especially in scenarios where each station's load approaches its saturated condition as well as in environments where channels experience faded. In this paper, we propose modified MAC-layer control frames including request-to-send and control-to-send frames for CSMA/CA 4×4 MU-MIMO transmission. We then numerically model a system adapted Markovian chain to characterize the exponential backoff distribution of CSMA/CA process in 4× 4 MU-MIMO WLAN scenario, taking the erroneous channel into account. Based on the probability model, the network performance in terms of MAC saturation throughput and average access delay are analyzed. The numerical results clearly demonstrate the substantial impacts of the number of active stations involved in transmission as well as erroneous channel on the performance.","PeriodicalId":142783,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129776789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of these schemes, however, are hardly applicable in practice since these schemes might produce unbalanced clusters or randomly distributed clusters without consideration for the distribution of sensor nodes. To overcome the limitations of such hierarchical clustering schemes, we propose a novel scheme called CUTA (Clustering Using Tree-balancing Algorithm) that exploits node split and merge algorithms of tree-based indexing structures to efficiently construct clusters. Our extensive performance studies show that CUTA produces highly balanced clustering in an energy efficient way and achieves up to 1.4 times higher performance than the previous clustering schemes, under various operational conditions.","PeriodicalId":142783,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124982033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
