The study of ancestral dietary progression from trees to grasses and plains as projected through carbon dating has made possible much of today's enlightenment as to the adaptive physiologic nature that has taken place within the species. This understanding, in tandem with the observed morphological changes which have occurred in the anatomy of the teeth and the bony contours and muscle attachments of the skull and jaws in which they are housed, has elucidated present-day scientists as to the means by which the human orthognathic complex was developed, and the ways by which this likely affected overall health and lifestyle over the past millennia. Extrapolation from our current understanding of phylogenetic cause and effect as gleaned from studies of fossilized teeth and jaws to date may enable us to propose potential future anthropological dynamics and adaptations as man becomes ever more modern.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"96 1","pages":"57 - 61"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79144107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the introduction of the four techniques that constitute the Partial Extraction Therapy (PET) concept; the preservation of the tissues is more promising than ever. This review collates the reports from 1942 up to 2020 on the Root Submergence, Socket Shield, Proximal Socket Shield, and Pontic Socket Shield techniques, stating the complications and modifications made since the innovation of each technique alongside the advantages and disadvantages. It was concluded that definitive protocols for implementing and evaluating the success of each technique are needed to ensure the long-term success of any treatment plan that includes a technique of the PET.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"33 1","pages":"16 - 19"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87271886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It consists of 5% organic and 4% inorganic substances. In inorganic substances, hydroxyapatite has the property of combining and dissociating calcium and phosphate as those of bone. Organic substances also contain bone morphogenetic protein and protein with osteoinduction capacity and Type I collagen. This review was conducted for the evaluation of density of bone formation after the placement of autogenous dentin and beta-tricalcium phosphate radiographically using grayscale analysis. Thus, we can conclude that autogenous dentin bone graft can be used as an alternative bone graft for socket preservation as it is readily available and it also heals faster.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"122 1","pages":"24 - 26"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78620389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is found in the Asian subcontinent, mostly India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. The understanding of the exact role of alkaloids and other etiological agents with respect to pathogenesis will help in the management and treatment modalities. Aim: The purpose of the study is to evaluate the epidemiologic profile of patients with OSMF in the North Gujarat population. Materials and Methods: Patients of OSMF attending the OPD of Siddhpur Dental College were selected for the study. Total numbers of 100 cases of clinically diagnosed OSMF were included for this study. A detailed case history was taken and clinical examination was done in visible light. The patients having difficulty in opening the mouth along with associated blanched oral mucosa with palpable fibrous bands were diagnosed as OSMF patients were included in this study. This study was done on the basis of age group, habit duration, types of habit, and clinical grading of OSMF. After collecting data, they were analyzed statistically. Results: From 100 OSMF patients majority had Grade III interincisal mouth opening. Among the groups divided based on age, Group II (15–30 years age) showed more prevalence than the others. Gutkha and masala (main content areca nut) were a powerful etiological factor (4%) among other etiological factors. Conclusion: OSMF predominantly affects younger age group adults with male predilection and the majority of patients presented with a progressive and advanced form of disease. Thus, advancement in diagnostic aids is required to arrest the disease in its initial stages.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"55 1","pages":"9 - 12"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80803562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional web-based questionnaire survey conducted among parents in Tamil Nadu. The pilot study was conducted to estimate the sample size, and the final sample size arrived was 260 participants. The predesigned and validated, self-administered, structured ten questions are related to awareness of myofunctional appliance. The statistical analysis was done using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences SPSS (V 22.0), and the frequency distribution was computed. Results: The survey revealed that 74% of the respondents had awareness about skeletal problems. Thirty-four percent of the population answered that forwardly placed upper and lower jaw bases are facial skeletal jaw base problems. Sixty-four percent of the parents are willing to counsel their child to take up this treatment and 84% had awareness about the importance of myofunctional appliance. Conclusion: Every orthodontist should be aware of discomfort depending on the appliance type and to inform the patients beforehand during clinical evaluation and appliance selection. The current study showed that the vast majority of the parents were aware about functional appliance and they had knowledge about how to distinguish skeletal problem. More awareness regarding functional appliance is mandatory and has to be created in order to treat skeletal problems during appropriate early age group of an individual.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"34 1","pages":"1 - 3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76134720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Profound anesthesia is required to access the chamber and extirpate the pulp. If patient discomfort is encountered, intrapulpal injection may be used as a supplement for pulpal anesthesia. Aims and Objectives: This study aims to analyze the efficacy of different anesthetic solutions and sterile saline for intrapulpal injections in primary vital teeth with irreversible pulpitits. Materials and Methods: Forty volunteers, patients with irreversible pulpitis whose pain persists after conventional anesthesia during treatment, were selected from Haldia. Patients were divided into four groups to administer intrapulpal solutions (bupivacaine, articaine, and lidocaine) and sterile saline to the respective groups to analyze the efficacy of the solutions in pain relief during pulp extirpation. Results: Positive back pressure was present in case of all anesthetic solution which was administered on the selected patients. Conclusion: On the basis of the results, we can conclude that effectiveness of intrapulpal injection is dependent on back pressure.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"92 1","pages":"13 - 15"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86275317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
