Children spend a considerable period in schools and teachers are in an enviable position to influence and guide children. School-based oral health education (OHE) is valuable as children are guided when young during the formation of their oral hygiene habits. Aim: This study was undertaken with the objective of assessing the oral health knowledge, attitudes, and practices of primary school teachers. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional survey was conducted among primary school teachers in Shirur village of Udupi district. A validated questionnaire was used, and a total of 103 teachers were assessed for their knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding oral hygiene. Statistical Analysis: Data description and statistical analysis were obtained using IBM SPSS Version 21-computer software (IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, SPSS 21.0, Inc., Chicago, USA) in association with Microsoft Excel. Descriptive statistics were obtained, and the mean values and frequency distributions were calculated. Results: All teachers (100%) were unanimous in their agreement that oral health was an integral part of general health and 95.3% (n = 102) agreed on the need for periodic dental check up. A majority (55.8%) of the teachers brushed twice daily and 32.7% of them visited their dentist once every 6 months. All teachers were interested in delivering OHE in schools. Conclusions: School teachers can be effectively used for OHE in schools. There is a need for a comprehensive approach to include OHE in schools through activities such as dental examinations and demonstration of brushing techniques.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"108 1","pages":"39 - 42"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75938557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The implant was placed immediately after extraction, and guided bone regeneration (GBR) was performed simultaneously to correct the dehiscence at the labial aspect. Five months after implant placement, the treatment showed satisfactory results both clinically and radiographically. The periapical radiograph confirmed the complication-free integration of the implant and repair of buccal defect. Thus, immediate implant placement with simultaneous GBR in postextraction sockets with bony defects is a reliable technique with predictable results. However, this protocol is technique sensitive, and a number of guidelines and prerequisites need to be seriously considered, especially good primary stability and correct three-dimensional placement.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"8 1","pages":"87 - 90"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88593717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Internal resorption occurs mostly commonly due to trauma or a long stand chronic pulpal irritation following caries or trauma and is most commonly seen in the anterior teeth and sometimes in the posterior teeth as well. Early diagnosis and removal of underlying pathology are important for long-term success. The case paper reports nonsurgical management of a case of internal inflammatory resorption treated by root canal therapy followed by obturation with thermoplasticized gutta-percha.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"10 1","pages":"84 - 86"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84592470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Fifty freshly extracted human primary teeth with minimum of 7 mm root length were randomly divided into two groups (Group 1 – Hyflex CM files, Group 2 – PTN files) were included in the study. Teeth were scanned using CBCT before and after the instrumentation for both the groups. Remaining dentin thickness, centering ability, canal transportation, and instrumentation time were evaluated for each group. Results: A significant difference was found in remaining root thickness and instrumentation time between Hyflex CM and PTN file system. PTN files showed better remaining root thickness as compared to Hyflex CM files, and the mean instrumentation time of “PTN” was significantly less than “Hyflex CM files.” Conclusions: PTN file system was found to be faster with more remaining root thickness of the primary teeth and hence can be recommended for shaping the root canals of the primary teeth.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"8 1","pages":"22 - 25"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90725211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: The archwire was pulled in a vertical direction by the testing machine, until the resistance was overcome and the archwire started to slide through the bracket. The force to overcome resistance and to initiate sliding of the archwire was measured. Results: In metal brackets, there is minimum resistance to sliding as compared to the two different ceramic brackets. Among the two ceramic brackets polycrystalline bracket offered more resistance to sliding then monocrystalline bracket. Although SS ligation offered less resistance to sliding then elastomeric ligation in all three bracket types, the difference between the two ligation systems is not statistically significant. Conclusions: In maximum anchorage cases metal bracket along with SS ligation should be used to reduce the frictional resistance, enabling the use of lighter forces and eventually conserving the anchorage.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"37 1","pages":"17 - 21"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76600813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a scarcity of literature that assesses patient's knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of dental students toward immediate implant placement, therefore the need of the study. Materials and Methods: A multiple-choice questionnaire consisting of 12 questions was framed and distributed to dentists between January 2019 and June 2019 from all the dental clinics in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India, who have entered their clinical practice with the primary objective to determine their KAP toward loading protocols of immediate and delayed implants. Results: Thirty-one percent of the respondents are aware of loading protocols of immediate implants and delayed loading and 69% were not aware of immediate implant procedures. Conclusion: Although dental implants have changed the outlook of dentistry in the past few decades, the knowledge and practice of implants by dental practitioners in Dhanbad is still limited, and there is a need to improve the same.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"28 1","pages":"30 - 32"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89923064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives were to compare the post-operative pain, swelling, trismus, periodontal health distal to mandibular second molar, quality of bone healing at the mandibular third molar socket at various time intervals. Methodology : This was split mouth study where PRF and biograft- HT® was placed on one side of the third molar extraction socket and PRF alone was placed on the other side in 15 patients with bilaterally impacted 3rd molars. Results: There was no statistically significant difference seen in any of the parameters Conclusion: This study does not prove statistically significant improvement in the efficacy of combination of PRF with Biograft- HT® when compared to PRF alone. The addition of Biograft- HT® to PRF increases the cost of the treatment while PRF alone is cost effective as it is prepared with patient“s own blood. Hence, the addition of Biograft- HT® to PRF can”t be recommended based on our study alone.","PeriodicalId":14257,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Preventive and Clinical Dental Research","volume":"78 1","pages":"1 - 4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88239249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
