The early identification of the disorder helps in early treatment which prevents neonates from life-threatening health problem, mental retardation, and serious lifelong disabilities. Objectives: Universal NBS using heel-prick dried blood spot (DBS) samples has become an integral part of public health system in developed countries. There are about 99.9% of newborns that are screened every year in western countries. Whereas, in India the less 1% of newborns are screened due to the ignorance and not knowing the importance of NBS. Very few states in India had started the program in government. Awareness among the professionals and public about the NBS has to be created and extended. Materials and Methods: The Newborn DBS samples were received from Government Vellore Medical College Hospital, Government Hospitals at Tirupattur, Gudiyatham and 104 primary health centers. Samples should be collected within 72 h from the newborn. Screening of human thyroid-stimulating hormones, 17-OHP, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, Galactose, and IRT are done using the Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA) method using their respective conjugate, Conjugate Diluent, Substrate solution TMB Chromogen, washing solution 10 ×, 1 × 50 ml Stopping solution and measured using micro plate photometer. Point of care testing (POCT) requires only 1 drop (10 μL) of blood from the pricked heel of the baby, and it can be performed 510 min at bedside. Results: NBS is done using the EIA method which reports between 8 and 12 days. Comparing point of care (POCT) with EIA, the results of POCT are compatible and satisfactory and it completes in 5 days. Conclusion: The proper implementation of point of care testing will help to identify the positive cases early and prevents the baby from permanent disability.","PeriodicalId":14153,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Public Health","volume":"84 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80445702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There has been a rapidly increasing body of evidence supporting the fallopian tube as the site of origin of high grade serous ovarian cancer. This case report describes 37 years old female with known case of hypothyroidism who presented with pain abdomen which was diffuse, progressive. On examination, there was hard irregular mass around umbilicus. She was then subjected to further investigations and was taken for staging laparotomy. During surgery, specimens were sent for histopathological examination at Rohilkhand Medical College and Hospital, Bareilly. Histopathological examination revealed the diagnosis of primary fallopian tube carcinoma (PFTC). This case is unique since we started it as a case of bilateral ovarian mass but histology revealed it to be a PFTC.","PeriodicalId":14153,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Public Health","volume":"47 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88874655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, this study is undertaken to evade severe public health issues related to cancers. Objectives: The aim of the study was to increase the awareness among the general population in field practice areas about risk factors of prevalent cancers and its prevention with the following objectives: (1) To determine the types of highly prevalent cancers among the patients attending Government General Hospital (GGH), Kurnool. (2) To know the public awareness about risk factors and prevention of cancers. (3) To educate the population about risk factors of prevalent cancers and their prevention. Materials and Methods: Study design: Information collected from January 1, 2014, to April 30, 2014, from the Department of Radiotherapy, GGH, Kurnool, to reveal the districts morbidity pattern, the predominant type of cancers, followed by a community-based cross-sectional study to assess population awareness. Permissions from Institutional Ethics Committee and Head of the Department of Radiotherapy was obtained before starting of the study. Informed consent was taken from the study participants in the community. Statistics: Data analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2007, presented results in the form of percentages and proportions. Results: The predominant types of cancers identified were cervical, breast, and lung cancers based on information collected from 81 registered cases. The community-based cross-sectional study revealed meager public awareness about cervical cancer, the importance of Pap smear testing, and self-breast examination in both rural and urban field practice areas. Conclusions: Educational intervention was conducted to increase public awareness about cervical cancer, the importance of Pap smear testing, and self-breast examination.","PeriodicalId":14153,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Public Health","volume":"8 1","pages":"604-611"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81863124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
