Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) techniques and endorphin massage (EM) therapy are effective in controlling menstrual pain. This study aims to determine the difference in the effectiveness of pain intensity carried out by PMR therapy and EM therapy. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental research with a two-group pretest and posttest design. Respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The inclusion criteria included students who experienced dysmenorrhea and do not have a genetic abnormality. The respondents who met the criteria were 80 respondents. The respondents were randomly selected using computerized to divide them into two groups. Forty respondents received PMR intervention and another 40 respondents received EM intervention. Bivariate analysis was performed using Wilcoxon test. Identification of respondents who fit the criteria, i.e. adolescents aged 13-14 years who experience menstrual pain, and do not have genetic abnormalities. Pain measurement was performed with a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. Results: PMR is more effective in lower intensity painful menstruation compared to EM proven that the average painful menstruation after PMR was 2.42±0.675, while the average painful menstruation after EM was 2.90±0955 with a difference of 4.8 points with a significance level of 0.000. Menstrual pain can be reduced by blocking nerve impulses from reaching the brain, including PMR therapy to control tension and anxiety. Conclusion: PMR therapy is more effective for controlling menstrual pain. PMR therapy can be done alone by adolescents when menstrual pain appears.","PeriodicalId":14122,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Research and Health Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76995142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study aims to investigate the effect of cognitive behavioural intervention on depression and quality of life (QoL) in wives who cared for husbands with substance use disorders. Methods: The research was conducted using a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-tests. Purposive sampling was used to select 60 spouse carers of male inpatients with substance use disorders, who were randomly assigned to the intervention (n=30) and control (n=30) groups. At baseline and post-intervention, all participants completed the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Bref (WHO QoL-BREF). The intervention group received eight sessions per week of individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for 45 to 60 minutes, while the control group did not. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) in SPSS software, version 26. In statistical tests, the significance level was 0.05. Results: The results showed significant differences between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group; therefore cognitive behavior intervention can significantly reduce depression and improve the QoL of substance dependent’s wife. Conclusion: These results have crucial implications for clinical practice in terms of improving mental health and well-being in the context of male substance use disorder spouse caregivers.","PeriodicalId":14122,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Research and Health Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74250431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A body of data supports the use of systemic and topical fluoride from various sources to prevent dental caries. Fluoride ions are absorbed by the enamel before tooth eruption and produce fluorohydroxyapatite, which is more resistant to acid attack than hydroxyapatite crystals [1]. Fluoride ions also aid in the early caries lesion remineralization process. As a result of the two mechanisms outlined above, fluoride strengthens enamel teeth against organic acids and dental caries.","PeriodicalId":14122,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Research and Health Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90541006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article utilized a narrative-integrative research design. The literature review shows that many educators and other stakeholders in the transition process are still unaware of the difficulties experienced by SVIs. The literature shows a mixed attitude from some educators towards students with disabilities in general, and students with VIs in particular. Most employers often do not want to hire people who are visually challenged. Literature also suggests that it is somewhat difficult to find common ground to support full inclusion to promote career transition for SVIs due to conflicting viewpoints among parents and educators of students with and without VIs. While some visually impaired students equipped with valuable job skills can find work in competitive jobs, a concerted effort should be made to overcome some employment hurdles they face. For SVIs to experience successful career transition, they need to be well-equipped with valuable job skills and assisted in job search and placement by career transition agencies.","PeriodicalId":14122,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Research and Health Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85026626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study set out to determine the prevalence, type, and factors affecting refractive error among paediatric patients at Guinness Eye Centre, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Onitsha. A retrospective cross-sectional study of 685 patients seen over a 3-year period using the simple random sampling technique. Collected data was analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Of the 685 patients, 242 cases of refractive error were identified giving a prevalence rate of 35.3% with 66.5% of them being female and 33.5% males. The mean age range was 12.0 +/- 3.7 years. Prevalence increased with age from 1.7% among those 0-4 years to 46.3% among those 10-14 years. Myopia was the commonest type of refractive error (62%) while hyperopia was 22.7%. However, there was no case of astigmatism. Poor distant vision was the commonest presenting complaint (34.4%). There is a high risk for refractive error among children with eye complaints and females have a significantly higher proportion. It may be necessary to assess if the male children tend to shy away from complaining of any visual disturbance. Children with refractive errors may not be identified soon enough, and this could account for poor learning in childhood. So, children should be routinely screened for refractive error.","PeriodicalId":14122,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Research and Health Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75234738","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nigeria is responsible for about 20% of all global maternal deaths, with a Nigerian woman having a 1 in 18-lifetime risk of dying because of pregnancy or childbirth. Evidence-based strategies have been proposed, including family planning (FP), to reduce the incidence of maternal mortality, which is the only strategy that reduces the proportion of high-risk pregnancies and births and reduces exposure to the risk of maternal mortality. Despite these benefits, there is still a high unmet need for family planning services. The present study assesses the choices and availability of FP services in Lagos state health facilities, examines the challenges, barriers, and cultural restraints to modern contraception, and proffers solutions that will help increase FP uptake in the state. The study also presented supply-and-demand interventions that are most effective at increasing voluntary contraceptive uptake in Lagos state.","PeriodicalId":14122,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Research and Health Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81483897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As nurses are the forces that implement changes to meet organizational objectives, they are continuously involved in the learning process. This study aims to explain the learning organization dimensions as perceived by Nursing staff in Saudi Arabia. This is a descriptive study that uses a convenience sample of 550 nurses. Data was collected using The Dimensions of the Learning Organization Questionnaire (DLOQ). The questionnaire consists of seven dimensions of learning organization. The DLOQ is based on a six-point Likert scale which was scored from 1-6. The study found the highest perceived dimension was “Embedded Systems.” While the lowest perceived dimension was “Empowerment.” The study concluded that while some dimensions were perceived highly by nurses like embedded systems, some dimensions, like system connections and empowerment, were perceived lowly which indicates areas of weaknesses in the organization.","PeriodicalId":14122,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Research and Health Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86972228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current study aimed at evaluating the stress prevalence among the undergraduates of Princess Nourah University (PNU), assessing their level of awareness of symptoms indicating stress, and comparing the pharmacological coping methods with the non-pharmacological methods in terms of effectiveness in reducing stress. For this, a questionnaire was developed in Arabic, based on the Four-Dimensional Symptom Questionnaire (4DSQ) as a reference, measuring the prevalence of distress, depression, anxiety or somatization. In addition, various strategies of stress management were assessed. The response rate among the study subject was 97.7% (n=510). The prevalence of self-perception of being stressed was significantly higher in health colleges compared to non-health colleges. A significant number of the participants diagnosed as having somatization, anxiety, depression or distress were aware of the problem and have stress self-perception (P<0.001). Different chronic co-morbidities were correlated with stress self-perception, where diabetes had the highest significant effect. Alarmingly, the method most significantly used to cope with stress was taking medications. In conclusion, the prevalence of stress was high, especially among health colleges’ undergraduates. Most participants with stress self-perception used medications to cope with their stress. It is, thus, recommended that campaigns should be held among university students for raising the awareness of the dangers of persistent stress and the hazards of self-medication to cope with stress.","PeriodicalId":14122,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Research and Health Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90756777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
