Unified power flow controller (UPFC) is an important FACTS device, which can simultaneously control the voltage at a bus and the active and reactive power flow through the transmission line to which it is connected. The variables of the UPFC must be controlled in accordance with system load conditions for stable operation of the power system. Artificial neural network (ANN) is an important tool which gives acceptable solution in real time. In this paper a back propagation feed forward artificial neural network is developed for evaluating the output variables of UPFC for different loading conditions of a 24 bus EHV Indian power system.","PeriodicalId":140556,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Emerging Research in Electronics, Computer Science and Technology (ICERECT)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133599998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The vehicle performance is mainly depends on Energy Storage System (ESS) so more importance has been given in this paper. No Single type of energy storage element fulfils the all required characteristics. So by combining two heterogeneous energy storage elements, efficient Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) can be developed. Performance of HESS mainly govern by the charging and discharging profile of each individual element. HESS improves the overall efficiency of electric vehicle as it hides the disadvantages of individual element and considering advantages only. Basic simulations in MATLAB were conducted to investigate the charging and discharging profile of battery and ultracapacitor which is further required to evaluate the overall performance of electric vehicle.","PeriodicalId":140556,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Emerging Research in Electronics, Computer Science and Technology (ICERECT)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131848740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main problems in transformerless single phase photovoltaic inverter is to control leakage current appearing between parasitic capacitor and ground. The leakage current has to be controlled to avoid EMI problem and circuit damage. The main goal of the proposed work is to control the leakage current by keeping the common mode voltage constant. This is achieved by applying unipolar SPWM strategy - Basic SPWM strategy and Bidirectional SPWM strategy. This increases reliability of the circuit. Total Harmonic Distortion [THD] is reduced by keeping common mode voltage constant. The inductance size in circuit is decreased by reducing the leakage current. PV cells have been used for simulation. For hardware a battery representing PV cell has been incorporated for studies.","PeriodicalId":140556,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Emerging Research in Electronics, Computer Science and Technology (ICERECT)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134380897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For more than a decade, medical image processing has played a contributory role in detection of image region suspected for cancer, but till date none of discussed paper have ever made it to real-medical applications owing to various unsolved problems. The paper introduces a technique called as DODOR i.e. Dual Optimization for Detection Oncological Regions, where the input image is subjected to two levels of optimization viz. local and global level. The globally optimized signal is again subjected to another novel technique that performs further exhaustive search for elite regions inflicted with cancer. DODOR was evaluated on multiple database of oncology and was found to provide faster processing as well as lesser extent of false positive in contrast to one of the most significant study in this field.","PeriodicalId":140556,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Emerging Research in Electronics, Computer Science and Technology (ICERECT)","volume":"75 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132237163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This problem of large feature space is addressed by feature selection algorithms which aim at finding a comparatively small set of significant features by removing the redundant and irrelevant features thereby increasing the performance (e.g., higher accuracy for classification), decreasing the computational cost and improving the model interpretability and comprehending the results in an better way. In this paper, we explore the possible application of Mutual Nearest Neighbor (MNN) and Mean Test approaches to select significant genes from high dimensional gene expression data and compare their performances with three other well known algorithms. kNN classifier is used to measure the performances of these algorithms and the results are illustrated.","PeriodicalId":140556,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Emerging Research in Electronics, Computer Science and Technology (ICERECT)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122002125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Detection of lesions in fundus images can assist in early stage of a Diabetic Retinopathy. A robust, adaptive and conceptually efficient approach for localization of features and lesions in a fundus image is discussed in this paper. As certain features have common properties, features, correlations techniques proposed. This method utilizes the intersection of the abnormal thickness in the blood vessels to find out the approximate location of the optic disk. Then it is further localized using color images. Later the proposed method show that more features such as the hemorrhages, micro aneurysms, hard exudate and soft exudates can be detected. Evaluation of the algorithm on some images on database with different illumination, contrast and DR stages has given success rate as high as 90% for hemorrhage. Further the other features extracted has given out about 95% for microaneurysm, 95% of sensitivity and 94% of specificity for exudates identification and yields 97% of success rate for optic disk localization. Hence the investigations are suitable to be registered in the form of a brief write up in this paper.","PeriodicalId":140556,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Emerging Research in Electronics, Computer Science and Technology (ICERECT)","volume":"283 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122303644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development of any country directly relies on the growth of power sector. Most of the rural India still do not have adequate household connections, due mainly to remotely placed localities. Further, it is not economically viable to run the transmission lines. Hence, to electrify the remote sites, Isolated Microgrids are increasingly being studied, as a solution, by the research fraternity. In this paper, Power quality concerns, involving mainly the mitigation of load current harmonics and frequency regulation as applied to Isolated Microgrid are considered. A shunt Active Power Filter and associated control strategy is developed in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The shunt APF in conjunction with the discrete frequency controller performs well under different steady state and transient conditions. The proposed model is shown to yield results that are in line with the established patterns. The proposed model has a THD of less than 5%, which compiles well with that specified by the IEEE 519 standard.","PeriodicalId":140556,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Emerging Research in Electronics, Computer Science and Technology (ICERECT)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125029511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
