The repeated contact between patients and paediatricians renders an ideal prospect for Paediatricians to determine risks associated with oral health and enlighten parents on counselling and preventive treatment modalities during development phases. The study was thus aimed to gather information and assess knowledge and attitude of the Paediatricians from Srinagar city regarding oral health in infants and children. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was organized between January 2019 and May 2019 to assess Paediatricians awareness regarding dental health and their attitudes in relation to oral health. This study was performed among 50 randomly selected Paediatricians of Srinagar city. Data was collected and subjected to descriptive analysis. Results: Majority of the Paediatricians were familiar of the speciality of pediatric dentistry, the significance of milk teeth and considered the importance of periodic dental visits for children. It was also revealed that most of the Paediatricians showed significantly less awareness (P<0.05) of the first dental visit, early childhood caries, fissure sealants, importance of fluoride and role of medicated syrups in promoting dental caries. Conclusion: This survey reveals that Paediatricians strongly believed in having an active role in promoting oral health. Dental training should be incorporated in curriculum during medical training and Paediatricians need to regularly rejuvenate themselves on recent advancements and updates related to infant oral health which can be transmitted to their patients.","PeriodicalId":14010,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical and Dental Sciences","volume":"47 1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90053840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Clinically, HT might be defined as that level of Blood Pressure (BP) at which the institution of therapy reduces the BP-related morbidity and mortality. Azilsartan (AZL) is a relatively new Angiotensin Receptor Blocker (ARB) available for the treatment of any stage of HT. Aim: To compare the efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness of AZL 40-80 mg once daily versus telmisartan 40-80 mg once daily in patients of stage-I HT. Methods: A prospective, open, randomized parallel group comparative study of AZL versus telmisartan was done in patients of stage-I HT. The study included 80 patients, 40 in each group (group I and group II) coming to the department of Medicine, Rajindra Hospital attached to Government Medical College, Patiala. The study was conducted over 8 weeks. Group I, patients received Azilsartan 40-80 mg per day in divided doses and group II, patients received telmisartan 40-80 mg per day in divided doses according to severity of hypertension. The therapeutic efficacy of drugs was evaluated by monitoring BP. Adverse drug reactions were monitored in patients. The daily cost for each medication was noted and total cost of drugs taken over 8 weeks was calculated. Effectiveness of the drugs was calculated in terms of mm Hg fall in mean BP. All the observations thus made were statistically analyzed using appropriate tests. Results: Patients receiving AZL 40mg and telmisartan 40mg showed a significant fall (p<0.05) in systolic Blood Pressure (SBP) and Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP) at 4 weeks and 8 weeks, when compared to baseline. The difference in SBP and DBP between Group I (AZL) and II (Telmisartan) was statistically significant at 4 weeks (p<0.05) and was highly significant at 8 weeks (p<0.001). Adverse effects such as nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infection, gastroenteritis, headache, dizziness, and fatigue were reported with both drugs. Conclusions: Reduction of BP with AZL was more as compared to telmisartan at 4 weeks and 8 weeks. Safety and tolerability was similar in both groups.","PeriodicalId":14010,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical and Dental Sciences","volume":"2013 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73797266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Assessment of cognitive performance in siblings of bipolar disorder from simplex (only one known case of bipolar disorder in first degree relatives) and multiplex (more than one known case of bipolar disorder in first degree relatives) families may provide some light to investigate the biological vulnerability in bipolar disorder. There is limited data pertaining to studies on siblings of patients with bipolar disorder and especially on comparison of effect of Bipolar I Disorder on neurocognitive functions between full biological siblings of patients from simplex and multiplex Families. Materials and Methods: This is a prospective, teaching hospital based, single point non-invasive study of 29 unaffected full biological siblings of patients diagnosed (as per DSM-IV-TR) as bipolar disorder I (BD-I) from Simplex and Multiplex families. Results: The siblings belonging to the multiplex group performed poorly on most domains of the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST). Comparison of the performance of the siblings belonging to the multiplex sub-group to those of simplex sub-group on the various domains of the Continuous Performance Test (CPT) and Spatial Working Memory Test (SWMT) did not show statistically significant difference. Conclusions: The performance in WCST is significantly affected in siblings from multiplex families than in simplex ones. The missing canal of complex root canal morphology is major reason for endodontic failure. The use of magnification, illumination, recent advancements, diagnostic aids and techniques help in minimizing the incidence of missing a canal. This case report describes the rare management of a left mandibular first permanent molar requiring root canal treatment with an additional Middle Mesial Canal (MMC) in the mesial root.
