The present study aims to address the occurrence, risks and some other ecological aspects of the Indian Myna in the Gaza Strip. This 10-year descriptive and cumulative study from 2013 to 2022 was based on field visits, direct observations, frequent meetings and discussions with stakeholders, follow-up of news and social media, as well as photography for documentary and confirmatory purposes. The results of the current study showed that the emergence of Indian Myna in the Gaza Strip began in 2006, and after 2008, its numbers increased remarkably and significantly. The bird arose in Palestine as a result of cage escapees from zoos or deliberate releases. Indian Mynas are usually abundant throughout the year in urban areas and the outskirts of the Gaza Strip, where feeding sites are available. The main habitats of Indian Minas include urban parks, gardens, agricultural orchards, and other similar environments. Potential local risks of the Indian Myna included its threats to local biodiversity, damage to domestic life and agricultural crops, as well as potential disturbance, noise and disease transmission to Gazans. Nets and sticks coated with glue were the main methods used by Gazans to capture Indian Mynas. The Indian Myna is locally sold at cheap prices of 2-3 USD per pair. A few Gazans claimed to eat the bird. It appears that the Indian Myna poses little threat in the Gaza Strip, and therefore there are no clear methods adopted by the responsible authorities to control the bird. Finally, the study recommends appropriate management strategies to stop or reduce the spread of non-native biota in the Gaza Strip when their numbers increase alarmingly and their risks increase to an intolerable extent.","PeriodicalId":13993,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fauna and Biological Studies","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83499759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three depths (30 cm, 60 cm, 90 cm from the bottom of the pond) were tested with one repetition. For each depth, 02 sieves (40 cm diameter and 15 cm depth) were used. A total of 180 oysters with an average size of 37.56±1.95 mm and an initial average weight of 30.35±0.72 g were used with a density of 15 oysters per colander. pH, temperature, transparency, and phytoplankton density were measured daily between 7:00 am and 8:00 am in June-July 2018. Each week, the colanders were checked. Oysters were counted, measured and weighed. The physico-chemical parameters measured in the ponds were consistent with the requirements of tropical water oysters. At the end of the experiments, the survival rate (50±35.36%) was identical for all depths in both ponds. The best growth in size was recorded in the fertilized pond. The sizes increased 2.06 mm and 3.8 mm at 90 cm and 30 cm depth respectively). In contrast, the smallest increases were obtained in the control pond, 0.93 mm and 1 mm at 90 cm and 30 cm depth respectively. In the fertilized pond, the average daily gain ranged from 0.017 g/d (at 90 cm depth) to 0.027 g/d (at 30 cm) while it was between 0.005 g/d (90 cm) and 0.017 g/d (30 cm) in the control pond. As for the specific growth rate, it varied from 0.014%.d -1 (90 cm) to 0.047%.d -1 (30 cm) in the control pond while it was between 0.047%.d -1 (90 cm) and 0.078%.d -1 (30 cm) in the fertilized pond. The best zootechnical performance was recorded between 30 cm and 60 cm in both ponds. Therefore, depths between 30 cm and 60 cm seem to be suitable for rearing Etheria elliptica in ponds. Also, fertilization of the rearing ponds with poultry droppings would improve the growth of the reared oysters.","PeriodicalId":13993,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fauna and Biological Studies","volume":"24 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77202055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the study is the assess the Biochemical parameters of the Pups from the Wistar rats fed with Calcium Carbide induced ripened orange. Unripe mature oranges were gotten for the parent plant at Ogu, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The fruits were divided into two; the first group was allowed to ripe at normal room temperature and 1kg of the second oranges wrapped with black nylon were forced to ripe within 48 hours with 10grams of Calcium carbide which was dissolved in 5ml of water in a closed steel bucket. 600g of each groups of the ripened oranges were peeled differently and blended in an electric blender with 350ml/1L distilled water. The juice was filtered with a clean fine sieve and were poured into clean bottles labeled accordingly and stored in a refrigerator for future use. 24 adult Wistar rats [12 male and female of each sex] weighing between 126.9- 213.3g were used. They were acclimatize for two [2] weeks and was fed with standard grower mash with clean water ad libitum. The Wistar rats were grouped into three, [1] Control, of 8 rats [4 males and 4 females] receive normal water and feeds only as placebo. [2] Treatment group I, containing 8 rats [4 males and 4 females] received 5ml/kg of the naturally ripened orange juice [3] Treatment II of 8 rats [4 males and 4 females] received 5ml/kg of the Calcium carbide induced ripened orange juice orally against their body weight for four weeks. The Wistar rats copulates freely during this period. Birthing occurred in the three groups and the Pups were collected weight at birth, at one week and the two week. They were sacrifice at second week and blood sample collected for the Biochemical analysis. Data collected from this study was analyzed as Mean ± Standard Error of Mean [SEM]. Significant difference among the groups was determined as P<0.05; by two-way ANOVA; using Statistical Analysis Program for Social Sciences [SPSS 22.0 Version]. \u0000Findings and recommendations: The results of this study showed statistically significant increase in the mean AST, ALT, ALP, Creatinine, Urea, Total Biluribin and Lactate Dehydrogenase of the pup of the Wistar rats fed with Calcium carbide forced ripened orange juice in contrast with the control group (p<0.05). There was significant reduction in the mean Albumin, Total Protein and Total Cholesterol in the pups from the Wistar rats fed with Calcium carbide forced ripened orange juice when compared with the control group (p<0.05). In conclusion, there is nutritional programming of Calcium Carbide forced ripened fruit when consumed by a mother and could cause hepatic and/or extra-hepatic toxicity, renal failure, heart failure, coronary heart diseases of the offspring. Thus; we recommend strongly, the abolishment of Calcium carbide as an agent for fruit ripening.","PeriodicalId":13993,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fauna and Biological Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77077204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The bird is of conservation priority species due to the nine coloured bird is distributed throughout the higher altitude of Himalayas and due to the bright coloured feather, they have been exploited for the feather as well as for the meat purposes. This species conservation priority species in its entire range because of its declining population due to anthropogenic threats. This bird is facing greatest threat of extinction due to poaching and habitat degradation. Out of the 17 species of Pheasant that occur in India are protected from capture by national and international legislation. Due to decrease in population they have been recognised as Schedule I species of Wildlife Protection Act (1972). However, it is highly desirable that status, distribution, and threats to conservation of monal pheasant should be given due importance. To understand the status distribution and habitat preference of the monal an intensive study was carried out. Surveys were conducted at 6 high altitude sites in Garhwal Himalayas including Kedarnath Wildlife sanctuary and the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, between the altitudinal range from 2500m to 4000m a.s.l. The direct as well indirect methods were used and found that the number of faecal group was found to be maximum in Himtoli (2.64±2.2) followed by Madh Maheshwer (0.96±1.29), Saukhark (0.75±1.4). For the direct sighting the maximum number of monal were sighted in Tungnath (0.26±0.59), followed by Bansinarayan (0.14±.43), Madh Maheshwer (0.14±0.44). No direct sightings were recoded from Himtoli. Due to illegal poaching and habitat destruction the population of monal pheasant has declined and now confined to a few small fragmented patches and needs urgent attention for the conservation.","PeriodicalId":13993,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Fauna and Biological Studies","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78665166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
