This paper adopted a purposive sampling technique among academics in private higher education in Malaysia. A quantitative approach using Partial Least Square PLS-SEM (Structural Equation Modelling) method was applied to analyse the data. The results show that OC is positively related to SC and SC has a high potential for lowering job burnout. The study also found that SC positively affects WLB. Furthermore, SC was found to elucidate the effect between OC, WLB and job burnout among employees in the private higher education sector. The study has two major theoretical implications. The study reaffirms the existing theory by demonstrating that OC, WLB, and job burnout are significantly related through support culture as a mediator. In addition, the study extends the existing theory by putting forward that understanding the effect of OC on employees' work behaviour in the private higher education research model can account for the variations in different sectors and contexts.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":"41 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87226925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, developing countries suffer from unsatisfactory entrepreneurship level, partially explained the low economic growth. Given the main attribute of developing countries, which is highly corrupted, this study empirically investigates the effect of corruption on entrepreneurship in 48 developing countries from 2008-2016. By using Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) estimator, the results show that an increase in corruption will promote more new business start-ups suggesting that in highly corrupted countries, potential entrepreneurs may observe that the only way to start a business is to bribe government officers to get licenses, permits and business approval. Therefore, a proactive role of government in effectively reducing and eventually eliminating corruption to create a more conducive environment for entrepreneurs to grow up is very critical.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":"600 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84634475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is widely acknowledged that access to financial sources is fundamentally important for the survival of innovative firms. The lack of financial support may prevent the firms from entirely pursuing innovation activity and producing innovative outputs. However, this is rarely addressed in the finance literature. Focusing on both types of financing sources (internal and external), this study investigates their influence on firms’ innovation outputs. Leveraging on the spirit in Pecking Order Theory, this study proposes that firms adopt a hierarchy between types of financing from internal or self-financing to external, starting from low risk to risky debts and followed by the issuance of shares on their efforts in financing innovation and producing the outputs. Poisson regression results, using a sample of 113 manufacturing firms listed in JASDAQ market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, revealed that both financing sources (internal and external) are important in driving volume and value of firms’ innovation outputs. However, the reliance of firms on self-generated financing conquers. This study, using patent-based data (application, publication, citation) to estimate firms’ technology outputs, also finds the complementary power of debt financing as an important financial source, particularly when firms’ internal financing source has exhausted. The findings of this study offer support to the assertion in the Pecking Order Theory concerning the risk inherited in the different financing sources.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88201759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data was collected from 68 manufacturing Shariah compliant companies’ annual reports for Malaysia, and 70 manufacturing Shariah compliant companies’ annual reports for Indonesia, for the year ended 2019. Descriptive and multiple regression analysis was used to analyse the data. The study found that HG Index and IT Usage Index were positive and significantly related to sustainability reporting for Shariah companies in both countries. However, ICG was not found to be significantly related to sustainability reporting for Shariah companies in Malaysia and Indonesia. This could be because the study focuses only on manufacturing companies, and in Malaysia and Indonesia, only about 24% of the companies and 13% of the companies respectively, have an ICG structure in place. The study suggests that to increase SR of Shariah compliant companies, there should be a good HG structure in place, and they should increase their level of IT usage in their business operations. Resource-Based theory can explain the relationship of IT Usage and HG to SR.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":"103 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75918400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although many researchers have studied the empirical effects of financial liberalization on stock market efficiency, consistent conclusions remain elusive. This paper aims to study the long and short-run relationship between financial liberalization and stock market efficiency before and after the global crisis strike in Malaysia. Specifically, Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) is the main econometric technique applied to explore this study. This study uses quarterly time series data over the period from 1998Q1 to 2020Q4. The findings revealed that financial openness and trade openness affect the stock market positively in the short and long term. In conclusion, these results indirectly support the efficient market hypothesis in Malaysia. Findings provide some policy implications in which the country should reinforce the prerequisites of openness to avoid the potential of initial crisis by equipping in an appropriate manner to minimize the short-term costs of liberalization to achieve long-term benefits.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87534212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the role of managerial cognition of resources fungibility has been empirically overlooked by scholars. Furthermore, extant literature lacks a model to enable a systematic measurement and evaluation of managerial cognition of resources fungibility, which has yet to be developed. This study empirically examines the moderating role of resources fungibility in the relationship between dynamic capabilities and innovation capability. To operationalize managerial cognition to enable the development of a measurable model for resources fungibility, 209 large Malaysian manufacturing firms were selected as sample to study the relationship between resources fungibility and firm's capabilities. The Partial Least Squares (PLS) technique was applied. This study finds that resources fungibility moderates the relationship between integrating capability and coordinating capability and innovation capability. Meanwhile, resources fungibility does not moderates the relationship between learning capability and innovation capability.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89624822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method of data analysis was Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) using Amos. The results indicated that the credibility of Indonesian Islamic banks significantly influenced customer satisfaction, Customer satisfaction significantly influenced customer loyalty, and Customer satisfaction could mediate the effect of credibility on customer loyalty. Then, credibility did not directly affect customer loyalty at Islamic banks but indirectly influenced customer loyalty. This research can be meaningful for universities to develop curricula, lecturers to develop teaching materials, students as references, Islamic banks to improve policies to increase customer loyalty, and central banks to develop regulations related to customers. Besides, in this research, the models of Islamic bank credibility, customer satisfaction, and loyalty were presented comprehensively and completely.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73551330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examines how such exogenous political shocks affect the stock price crash risk of politically connected firms (PCFs) compared to non-PCFs in Malaysia. The data for this study covers from the year 2002 to 2017. A balanced panel of 529 firms from 2002-2017 is used for analysis. This study finds that PCFs display a significantly lower stock price crash risk after GE 2008 and GE 2013 but not before GE 2008. However, the results are only applicable to the PCFs through the politically connected board of directors and businessmen. Further analysis reveals that increasing foreign (government) strategic free float shareholdings result in lower stock price crash risk of PCFs through the politically connected board of directors (government direct shareholdings). Our results provide several perspectives on the connection between stock price crash risk and political stability.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86151955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Daily returns in SSD and Markowitz, and annual ratios in ANN models, are taken as inputs, with the following annual returns as outputs. By the perspective of stock selection literature, this study carries unique value for including comparisons of these methods with the purpose of generating portfolios with higher returns. Thus, two questions emerge: \"Are these methods able to overcome losses during financial crises and bear or bull periods, and can they provide positive alpha?\" Results indicate that average returns of portfolios generated by ANN are relatively higher than SSD and Markowitz, but all three models provide positive alpha over indexes. However, none of the models could overcome negative returns during economic crises.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":"17 3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78044208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
