There are different findings throughout the six geographical regions. A bidirectional causation is observed for Latin America and the Caribbean, while a unidirectional causality is from happiness to nighttime lights for East Asia and Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa. In Sub-Saharan Africa is found, the situation is from nighttime lights to happiness. These findings are complemented by the impulse response function, various decomposition analysis, and their estimates of panel random (or fixed) effect models. This study offers an insight that nighttime lights are required for a happy society.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140750544","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the cross-sectional research design, data were randomly collected from 258 employees from the Delta State Ministry of Health, which was subjected to the partial least square (PLS) analytical procedure for hypothesis testing. The PLS analysis results suggested that while tacit knowledge sharing mediates perceived organisational support and organisational trust link to innovative work behaviour, it also mediates perceived organisational support link to innovative work behaviour sequentially with organisational trust as an antecedent. The study concluded that perceived organisational support and organisational trust prediction of innovative work behaviour can be explained by tacit knowledge sharing. The study puts forward important practical implications for organisations/management to follow in effectuating the linkages among the constructs in a meaningful and coherent manner.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139154302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consequently, forecasting unemployment becomes an essential task as it can guide government policy. Time series data are frequently influenced by outliers (unexpected events), and some outliers may exist with extreme observation to reduce the forecasting effectiveness of robust estimators. This study compared the performance of Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA), Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) and Generalised Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH) models in modelling and forecasting unemployment rates during the COVID-19 pandemic among the ASEAN-5 countries. These countries include Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia. The monthly unemployment data from January 2010 to December 2021 were applied for all cases, except Thailand, until December 2020. Each adequate model from both forecasting mechanisms underwent forecasting. Their performance was compared based on root mean squared error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), Theil inequality coefficient and symmetric mean absolute percentage error (SMAPE). Static forecasting from the ARIMA and SARIMA models was found to perform better than the GARCH model in modelling and forecasting the unemployment rate among ASEAN-5 countries during the pandemic period.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139153167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A binary variable of state control firm attribute is introduced to proxy the political connection to the Chinese government. Both the independent director ratio and CEO duality are negatively and significantly associated with the long-term debt ratio. The board size negatively and significantly relates to the short-term debt ratio. Evidence of board members’ avoidance of investors’ pressure to use more debt and escape from debt lenders’ monitoring is observed in this research. Both foreign ownership and state ownership are significantly and negatively associate with the short-term debt ratio, but significantly and positively associate with the long-term debt ratio. Thus, both foreign investors and the Chinese government prefer the companies to achieve rapid growth through the use of more long-term debts. The binary variable of state control firm attribute has a significant positive association with the short-term debt ratio alone. However, evidence of declining use of long-term debt financing due to political connections, such as the issuance of equity, is not observed.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139154789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Businesses that implement a solid social media marketing plan may see enhanced results through improved performance on these channels. Though businesses increasingly rely on intuitive and trial-and-error techniques when developing their social media marketing strategy, we identify effective marketing strategies designed for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) to optimize social media performance. As part of their marketing strategies, SMEs should moderate social media-based customer engagement to achieve maximum leverage. Our study employed quantitative purposive sampling to collect and analyze data from 265 food and beverage SMEs located in Solo, Semarang, Kudus and Jepara. Afterward, we utilized Structural Equation Modelling AMOS data collected through a questionnaire to test our empirical model and validate its prediction capabilities. Our findings demonstrate how effective social media marketing strategies can increase customer engagement with social media-based customer interactions and positively affect performance on these channels. Furthermore, SMEs should utilize brand exposure strategies through social media marketing in order to further boost social media-based customer interactions.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139155403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, the creative industry is one of the fastest-growing business sectors and the promotion of sustainable economic development is evident in the government's active support for improving the growth of MSMEs. Therefore, this study analyzes the impact of financial literacy and market orientation on the MSMEs performance and sustainability. The sample includes 95 respondents occupying the roles of owners or managers in the creative industry of Yogyakarta Province. The results show that financial literacy and market orientation positively impact performance and sustainability. The performance of MSMEs influences business sustainability but financial literacy has no significant impact. Therefore, the implications show the indispensable need for governmental assistance in improving the knowledge base of MSMEs owners concerning financial literacy and market orientation.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139155204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Crops react differently to climate change and hence it is crucial to understand its effect on specific agricultural plants. Specifically, the impact of climate change on agriculture yield may not be linear. As such, this study investigated the impact of climate factors on oil palm yield using state level data from Malaysia. The results suggested that temperature and oil palm yield have a non-linear inverted U-shaped relationship. In addition, rainfall has a positive impact on oil palm yield.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139156832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firms, large or small, can make a major positive contribution to energy sustainability by improving energy efficiency. This research attempts to examine the effects of SMEs’ perceptions in terms of knowledge, government intervention and personal norms on their support for energy efficiency improvement. A survey was carried out to collect data and empirical testing of the research model was conducted. The estimated results suggest that the factors of knowledge and government intervention have significant effects on SMEs’ support for energy efficiency improvement. In addition, the results show that personal norms is an important mediator variable in influencing SMEs’ decision to improve energy efficiency. The findings of this research provide some fresh insights on energy efficiency improvement of SMEs and several notable implications can be drawn from this research.","PeriodicalId":13836,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Business and Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139157271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
