This phase consists of eliciting, analyzing, documenting, and validating requirements from users/customers by business analyst. Activities in this phase are recognized as a crucial activity as it can incur high cost if correction is to be done at a later stage. In reducing requirement errors, MIMOS take the initiatives by introducing process performance metrics to optimize the quality of requirement engineering. Data of requirement process performance metric from 13 medium skills of projects developed in year 2008 was collected and analyzed. Results showed that the errors can be categorized into 3 requirement faults type; missing, incomplete and incorrect requirement. The errors captured impacted the overall performance for In-Process-Faults (IPF) requirement averaging at 0.26 faults/page for the top 3 faults. In 2009, requirement process performance aim to reduce the faults density from 0.26 faults/page to 0.19 faults/page for the top 3 requirement faults. Based on data from 2008, Causal Analysis and Resolution (CAR) was executed and proposed solution was identified. 6 medium skill projects were selected to execute the proposed solutions. These projects are being control and monitored to meet the goal set as well as to improve the quality of requirement engineering process.","PeriodicalId":137714,"journal":{"name":"2011 Malaysian Conference in Software Engineering","volume":"129 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116257022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As these software age, they have to be maintained to suit the demands of the users. There are many challenges involved in maintaining this software which decision makers in the software reengineering community have to address. These decision makers need an expert's assistance in reengineering the software. Many studies attempt to support decision makers. However, there is limited study in adopting artificial intelligence approaches to support the decision-making process. Hence, we introduce an expert-based decision support framework called REXDES that can analyze different components of a software application to facilitate decision-making in software reengineering.","PeriodicalId":137714,"journal":{"name":"2011 Malaysian Conference in Software Engineering","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125485550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this approach, models co-exist and can be modified independently in different stages of software development, but the consistency between models should be preserved by appropriate propagation of changes to the related models. However, most approaches do not support complete synchronization for uni-directional transformations. This paper proposes a new method for incremental synchronization of models that are related to each other by a uni-directional transformation. For this aim, traces of transformation are used for delete and update change propagation. Also, a knowledge base is generated automatically that encompasses patterns of transformation and employed for propagating insertion in source and target models. The knowledge base contains rules defined based on source and target metamodels that produced and evaluated automatically. The proposed method was evaluated by applying it to synchronize a class diagram as a source model and a relational database diagram as a target one.","PeriodicalId":137714,"journal":{"name":"2011 Malaysian Conference in Software Engineering","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127395838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the generalization capability of SBLLM is sometimes limited depending on the nature of the dataset, particularly on whether uncertainty is present in the dataset or not. In order to reduce the effects of uncertainties in SBLLM prediction and improve its generalization ability, this paper proposes a hybrid system through the unique combination of type-2 fuzzy logic systems (type-2 FLS) and SBLLM; thereafter the hybrid system was used to model PVT properties of crude oil systems. In the proposed hybrid, the type-2 FLS is used to handle uncertainties in reservoir data so that the final output from the type-2 FLS is then passed to the SBLLM for training and then final prediction using testing dataset follows. Comparative studies have been carried out to compare the performance of the proposed T2-SBLLM hybrid system with each of the constituent type-2 FLS and SBLLM. Empirical results from simulation show that the proposed T2-SBLLM hybrid model greatly improved upon the performance of SBLLM.","PeriodicalId":137714,"journal":{"name":"2011 Malaysian Conference in Software Engineering","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123783718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It provides efficiency, reliability, maintainability. The challenge of interpreting the results of performance analysis and generate alternative design to build component system is quite critical in the software performance domain. Although, many approaches have been proposed and were successfully applied to predict software performance, still span of design space hinder the selection of the appropriate design alternative. Meta-heuristics such as Genetic Algorithms (GA) methods have proven its usefulness to solve the problem even with multi-degree of freedom. But, in recent investigations Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), an alternative search technique, often outperformed GA when applied to various problems. In this paper we describe performance prediction approach based on PSO for component-Based system development. The proposed approach aids developers to effectively trades-off between architectural designs alternatives. Boundary search technique and PSO are used to provoke more efficient results. To the best of our knowledge we are the first who employ PSO in software performance prediction. Outlines of our approach are presented and a case study applied using GA is described to be used by our approach for validation. This paper has concluded that, PSO technique can be used to effectively generate alternatives in spanned design space and facilitate the design decision during the development process.","PeriodicalId":137714,"journal":{"name":"2011 Malaysian Conference in Software Engineering","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128286573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fault prediction models usually aim to predict either the probability or the density of faults that the code units contain. Many fault prediction models using software metrics have been proposed in the Software Engineering literature. This study focuses on evaluating high-performance fault predictors based on support vector machines (SVMs) and probabilistic neural networks (PNNs). Five public NASA datasets from the PROMISE repository are used to make these predictive models repeatable, refutable, and verifiable. According to the obtained results, the probabilistic neural networks generally provide the best prediction performance for most of the datasets in terms of the accuracy rate.","PeriodicalId":137714,"journal":{"name":"2011 Malaysian Conference in Software Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131116867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Maturity and competency of a project manager in efficient prediction and estimation of resource capabilities are one of the strategic driving forces towards the generation of high quality software. Currently, there are no estimation techniques developed through empirical analysis to evaluate the decision capability of a project manager towards resource allocation for effective defect management. This paper brings out an empirical study carried out in a product based software organization. Our deep investigation on several projects throws light on the impact of decision capability of project manager towards accomplishment of an aforementioned objective. The paper enables project managers to gain further awareness towards the significance of predictive positioning in resource allocation in order to develop high quality defect-free software products. It also enhances the maturity level of the company and its persistence in the competitive atmosphere.","PeriodicalId":137714,"journal":{"name":"2011 Malaysian Conference in Software Engineering","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134152838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research and practice has shown that software reuse can be used for developing products from reusable assets in a routine manner, on an industrial scale. However successful application of software reuse is limited to certain domains and not widespread across the software industry. There is no clear consensus between input and, output artifacts and the requirements that an effective reuse process must have. To examine the issues and concerns in more detail we have completed surveys on software reuse in the conventional software engineering (CSE) community and in the software product line (SPL) community to compare and contrast the results for similarities and differences in software reuse philosophy. This paper outlines some of the identified differences and similarities of issues and concerns in software reuse in both communities and what one community can gain from the other to overcome the identified software reuse problems. The comparison highlights areas where the existing SPL and CSE communities provide extensive support in software reuse and those in which the SPL and CSE communities are deficient, suggesting an understanding of the factors resisting software reuse in both communities.","PeriodicalId":137714,"journal":{"name":"2011 Malaysian Conference in Software Engineering","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114180603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we have focused on muscle myosin nanomotor as the driven motor of muscles and introduced the nanomotor as a physical intelligent agent. Then, the mechanism of the nanomotor was specified using subsumption architecture of agent technology and modeled with the Finite State Machine (FSM) diagram of Unified Modeling Language (UML). The proposed agent-based FSM model of the mechanism of muscle myosin nanomotor illustrated the internal intelligent and autonomous decision-making process of the nanomotor as a robot mechanism. In order to verify the proposed agent-based FSM model of the mechanism of the nanomotor, we developed its mathematical definitions (its Deterministic Finite Automaton (DFA) and grammar) and compared them with the natural behavior of the nanomotor inside the muscle cells. The comparison results indicated that the mechanism of muscle myosin nanomotor could be defined as a robot mechanism with its inputs, internal decision-making process, and outputs. As muscle contraction process is a set of the mechanisms of muscle myosin nanomotors, our proposed agent-based model of the mechanism of the nanomotor can introduce muscle contraction process as a general bio-robotic process.","PeriodicalId":137714,"journal":{"name":"2011 Malaysian Conference in Software Engineering","volume":"224 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116373911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
