Open innovation runs contrary to the individualistic mentality of traditional corporate R&D implementation while embracing external cooperation in a complex world. Our main motivation for the study is to assess and characterise literature that represents radical transformation toward accelerating co‐development of sustainable innovations. Our review points to the role of the open eco-innovation research landscape as an emerging research domain of potential contributions to sustainable industrial development. Specifically, in this systematic analysis, we apply exploratory, bibliometric, and network visualization techniques to characterize the available knowledge in the field. We trace the growth trajectory of this emerging literature and map the knowledge base of the OE research field. Based on the data from our study we developed four phases of knowledge domain development and recognised that OE is at the acceleration phase. We emphasized that analytic knowledge base is one of the basic ingredients of an open eco-innovation model in addition to synthetic and symbolic knowledge bases. Our article also brought to the fore the emerging important role of intermediaries in brokering eco-innovation at the firm and sectoral levels with a lot of implications for policymaking. Finally, we highlighted what might seem to be budding theoretical perspectives underlining open eco-innovation in the industrial sector.","PeriodicalId":136014,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Technology eJournal","volume":"35 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126957595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This contribution places emphasis on tuning pore architecture and film thickness of mesoporous Pd – Cu – Si thin films sputtered on Si substrates for enhanced electrocatalytic and hydrogen sorption/desorption activity and their comparison with the state-of-the-art electrocatalysts. The small Tafel slope of 44 mV dec–1 with a rapid rise in the cathodic current rendering low hydrogen overpotentials of 24 mV at 10 mA cm–2, and the largest sorption/desorption peaks for the T4H2 electrode suggest its use for a fuel cell electrode. Moreover, the kinetic parameters described by the equivalent circuit model have a very good correlation with Tafel slopes and sample mass. The 10 nm T1H1 sample has one of the highest capacitive responses where the hydrogen-metal interaction takes place and is promising as a nano-charger and sensing of hydrogen.","PeriodicalId":136014,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Technology eJournal","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115542406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Can Computational Antitrust Succeed?","authors":"Daryl Lim","doi":"10.51868/3","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.51868/3","url":null,"abstract":"Computational antitrust comes to us at a time when courts and agencies are underfunded and overwhelmed, all while having to apply indeterminate rules to massive amounts of information in fast-moving markets. In the same way that Amazon disrupted e-commerce through its inventory and sales algorithms and TikTok’s progressive recommendation system keeps users hooked, computational antitrust holds the promise to revolutionize antitrust law. Implemented well, computational antitrust can help courts curate and refine precedential antitrust cases, identify anticompetitive effects, and model innovation effects and counterfactuals in killer acquisition cases. The beauty of AI is that it can reach outcomes humans alone cannot define as “good” or “better” as the untrained neural network interrogates itself via the process of trial and error. The maximization process is dynamic, with the AI being capable of scouring options to optimize the best rewards under the given circumstances, mirroring how courts operationalize antitrust policy–computing the expected reward from executing a policy in a given environment. At the same time, any system is only as good as its weakest link, and computational antitrust is no exception. The synergistic possibilities that humans and algorithms offer depend on their interplay. Humans may lean on ideology as a heuristic when they must interpret the rule of reason according to economic theory and evidence. For this reason, it becomes imperative to understand, mitigate, and, where appropriate, harness those biases.","PeriodicalId":136014,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Technology eJournal","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132730735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dependence of sublayer extinguishing efficiency on thermal radiation implies that the fire extinguishing aerosol completely shields the surface of the combustible liquid against its action.\u0000The result of this study has established that the intensity of thermal radiation at a distance of 60 and 30 mm from the surface of an alcohol flame with an area of 234 cm2 ranges from 0.8 to 4.7 kW/m2; the intensity of burning and, accordingly, radiation, maximizes on seconds 30‒40 of burning.\u0000It has been found that the intensity of thermal radiation for ethanol decreases with the addition of an aerosol with an intensity of up to 0.2 g/s, and decreases even more at the intensity of supply from 1.2 g/s. With a further increase in the intensity of aerosol supply, the radiation intensity begins to decrease, probably due to a decrease in the rate of combustion. In this case, the flame first decreases in size up to 2 times, and then, after 2‒3 seconds, it goes out. The use of fire-extinguishing aerosol for the sublayer extinguishing of alcohols ensures the effect of several factors that synergize and reduce the intensity of evaporation, burning, and, accordingly, thermal radiation","PeriodicalId":136014,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Technology eJournal","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125346639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since CCS entered the public arena with the publication of the IPCC Special Report in 2005, most of the international prospective scenarios compatible with keeping the temperature rise below 2°C rely on CCS (e.g. IPCC, IEA). International initiatives gathering many volunteer countries are playing a key role for enabling the development and deployment of CCS, such as IEAGHG since 1991, CSLF since 2003, ISO/TC 265 since 2011, Mission Innovation Challenge 3 since 2015, SET Plan Action 9 since 2016. Quite recently the use (U) of CO2 has entered the value chain to encourage the economic use of part of the captured CO2 as a raw material for the manufacture of new products before permanently storing the rest in the deep subsurface, this is why the technology is now often referred to as CCUS, or CCS and CCU. France has played a key role in the development of global climate policies (e.g. the Paris agreement in 2015), and is involved in the various international initiatives devoted to CCUS mentioned above. It is therefore interesting to take stock of how France is preparing to develop this technology and deploy it on its territory. Are we heading towards the deployment of the CCUS technology in France?","PeriodicalId":136014,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Technology eJournal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131097992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This prominent \"economic challenge\" facing Lebanon should be approached as being correlative in its tools and effects with the global economic transformation towards a \"knowledge economy\". This required study explains the importance of developing the \"industrial sector\" in Lebanon as a basic pillar for modernizing the Lebanese economy. Using \"policy planning\" approach, the study shows the means required for transforming from a \"consumer society\" to a \"producing/industrial society\", by adopting the strategy of modern/late industrialization and supporting the industrial sector. This study mainly identifies strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities in the industrial sector in Lebanon by analyzing Lebanon's \"industrial environment\" based on official data, and designs a framework of \"policy choices\" that constitute the required base for planning the development of Lebanese industry. The possible integration between these options can architect an industrial environment that supports the transformation towards a production society and a knowledge economy, mainly through: adopting structural planning and shifting towards industrial decentralization, supporting the productive sectors, developing the national knowledge base, enhancing the technological capacity of industrial facilities, and building modern industrial zones. This study concludes a set of practical recommendations that determine the starting point for industrial development in Lebanon.","PeriodicalId":136014,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Technology eJournal","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129343219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model constructed based on governing equations of an incompressible Reynolds Average Navier-Stokes (RANS) model with (k-e) method to observe the parametric determinations such as velocity profile, static pressure profile, turbulent kinetic energy consumption, and turbulence shear wall flows. The water is used with three velocities values obtained of (0.087, 0.105, and 0.123 m/s) to represent turbulent flow under low to moderate Reynolds number of the pipe geometry of (1 m) length with a (50.8 mm) inner diameter. The water motion behavior inside the pipe shows by using [COMSOL Multiphysics 5.4 and FLUENT 16.1] Software. It is concluded that the single-phase laminar flow of a low velocity, but obtained a higher shearing force; while the turbulent flow of higher fluid velocity but obtained the rate of dissipation of shearing force is lower than that for laminar flow. The entrance mixing length is affected directly with pattern of fluid flow. At any increasing in fluid velocity, the entrance mixing length is increase too, due to of fluid kinetic viscosity changes. The results presented the trends of parametric determinations variation through the (2D) counters analysis of the numerical model. When fluid velocity increased, the shearing force affected directly on the layer near-wall pipe. This leads to static pressure decreases with an increase in fluid velocities. While the momentum changed could be played interaction rules between the fluid layers near the wall pipe with inner pipe wall. Finally, the agreement between present results with the previous study of [1] is satisfied with the trend","PeriodicalId":136014,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Technology eJournal","volume":"97 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123514748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our analysis, applying our domain knowledge, first we create a taxonomy of concepts present in disclosures associated with each of the four areas described in the TCFD recommendations. This taxonomy is then linked together by a set of rules in query form of selected concepts. The queries are crafted so that they identify the excerpts most likely to relate to each of the TCFD’s 11 recommended disclosures. By applying these rules we estimate a TCFD compliance index for each of the four main areas for the period 2014-2019 using corporate reports in Spanish. We also describe some challenges in analysing climate-related disclosures. The index gives an overview of the evolution of the level of climate-related financial disclosures present in the corporate reports of the Spanish banking sector. The results indicate that the quantity of climate-related disclosures reported by the banking sector is growing each year. Besides, our study also suggests that some disclosures are only present in reports different than annual and ESG reports, such as Pillar 3 reports or reports on remuneration of directors.","PeriodicalId":136014,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Technology eJournal","volume":"196 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115979690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method is integrated into most power quality analyzers and commercial software. Therefore, this paper seeks to examine the harmonic power flow direction method and quantify the size of the harmonic contribution of each harmonic source connected at the Point of Connection (PoC). A radial distribution network with harmonic loads is used and modelled in the DIgSILENT power factory. It was found that the harmonic power flow depends on the flow of harmonic current within the power system. It can be that the harmonic sources have negative power at a harmonic frequency which means it injects the harmonic current, but the dominant contribution is only from one or two harmonic sources. Thus, the load with the highest percentage of individual and total harmonic distortion is the dominant contributor to harmonics. DIgSILENT gives the contribution of each load connected at the PoC by indicating the percentage of total harmonic distortion. The active power flow direction method is the practical and commercial method to use in the industries. This gives a solution for the ongoing harmonic source detection research. It is recommended to use DIgSILENT, it shows the direction of harmonic current flow and quantifies the harmonic content within the network.","PeriodicalId":136014,"journal":{"name":"Sustainable Technology eJournal","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130464894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
