Tinea cruris more commonly affects men and affects adults more than children. Conventional management involves the use of topical antifungal agents and oral therapy in extensive cases. Case Summary: A case of tinea cruris in a 30-year-old male patient is reported, which was effectively treated with individualised homoeopathic medicine. Based on the totality of symptoms, the homoeopathic medicine Natrum muriaticum in 200C potency was prescribed as the first dose and improvement was observed in subsequent follow-ups. In this case, the causal attribution to the prescribed medicine was established by the Modified Naranjo Criteria Score. This evidenced-based case suggests that tinea cruris can be successfully managed with individualised homoeopathic treatment.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135199745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The medicine prepared from the whole honeybee, Apis mellifica, is on the Essential Drug List. Objective: An in-depth physicochemical standardisation of this homoeopathic drug is attempted. Material and Methods: In this study, first the raw drug was authenticated, and then its pharmacopoeial parameters were measured, e.g. moisture content, foreign matter, different ash values, alcohol and water-soluble extractive values. Further, the mother tincture of Apis mellifica was prepared from the authentic raw drug. The pharmacopeial parameters of in-house mother tincture and a commercial mother tincture, e.g. organoleptic parameters, sediment detection, specific gravity measurement, pH measurement, total solids measurement, qualitative ultraviolet-visible spectra determination and high-performance thin layer chromatography were carried out for in-depth standardisation. Results: This study provides the standards for the aforementioned pharmacopeial parameters of Apis mellifica using pharmacopeial procedures. For the first time, the quantitative data obtained here quantifies those pharmacopeial parameters. The comparative study of the parameters of the in-house mother tincture and commercial sample shows the significance of the reported work for maintaining the high quality of the drugs. Conclusion: The data presented here could be used for updating the pharmacopeial standards and limits for the homoeopathic drug Apis mellifica in the future.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135199419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, our understanding of the immunomodulatory effects of such medicines and associated mechanisms of action remains limited. Objectives: The present study aims to investigate the immunomodulatory effects of Arsenic album, Rhus toxicodendron, Hepar sulphuris and Bryonia alba on lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced peripheral blood neutrophils and monocytes. Materials and Methods: In this work, neutrophils and monocytes were treated with different homoeopathic dilutions of 30C potency separately, followed by stimulation with the LPS, to examine the immunomodulatory effects of these medicines. Flow cytometry-based expression analysis of different surface markers was assessed, gene expression dynamics was determined using quantitative polymerase chain reaction and protein secretion was evaluated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: A significantly decreased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin (IL-6) and tumour necrosis factor-α both at transcript levels as well as protein levels with reduced expression of the pathogen recognition receptors such as toll-like receptors (TLR)-2, and TLR-4 in LPS-stimulated neutrophils and monocytes were observed. Similarly, there was a reduction in reactive oxygen species production and expression of activation markers such as CD44, CD69 and CD62L in stimulated cells in the presence of the homoeopathic medicines. A differential level of expression of cell adhesion receptors (e.g., integrin β1, β3 and αv) which mediate migration of immune cells in the tissues was observed in stimulated cells. Conclusion: We found that homoeopathic medicines have a significant effect against LPS-induced inflammatory response in innate immune cells and provide empirical support for their beneficial effects.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135243644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It may range from 1 mm to several cm, and are mostly seen on the extremities, followed by the face. They may be transmitted by direct or indirect contact and lead to cosmetic concerns, itching and mild to severe pain while doing activities. Conventional treatment has destructive therapies such as salicylic acid, cauterisation and cryosurgery, which induce many adverse effects from local to general. However, an individualised homoeopathic approach can be used to effectively treat these warts, without any need of applying topicals, or recurrence of the complaints. The improvement was assessed through photographic records. This case series provides an insight to individualised homoeopathic intervention in different types of warts and paves the way for pragmatic studies in the future.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135243804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The severity of symptoms varies among individuals; whereas pain and stiffness are the most troublesome complaints. Homoeopathic medicines have the potential to manage pain episodes. Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the effect of individualised homoeopathic medicine (IHM) in managing the pain of knee and hip OA. Methods: A prospective, double-blind, randomised (1:1) placebo-controlled trial was conducted on 60 individuals suffering from OA at R.B.T.S. Govt. Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Muzaffarpur. Visual analogue scale for pain (Score-A-1), stiffness (Score-A-2) and loss of function (Score-A-3) was the primary outcomes and the OKHQOL scale (Score-B) was the secondary outcome. The outcomes were measured at baseline and after 3 months. Comparative analysis was done to detect group differences. Intra and intergroup analysis was done by paired and unpaired t-tests, respectively. Results: Statistically significant results were observed in both intra and intergroup outcomes (P < 0.05, at 95% CI). The group differences in Score-A-1 (mean difference: −5.83, 95% CI: −6.71to−4.94, P < 0.001), Score-A-2 (mean difference: −5.43, 95% CI: −6.38to−4.48, P < 0.001), Score-A-3 (mean difference: −5.60, 95% CI: −6.50to-4.69, P < 0.001) and in Score-B (mean difference: −106.87, 95% CI: −142.77 to−70.96, P < 0.001) were statistically significant after 3 months. However, the improvement was much better in the IHM group than in the placebo group. The frequently indicated medicines were Rhus toxicodendron, Medorrhinum, Bryonia and Syphilinum. Conclusion: This study shows that IHMs can improve the pain in knee and hip OA, as well as the quality of life.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135199266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chand Publisher: Speaking Tiger Books ISBN: 978-93-5447-329-6 eISBN: 978-93-5447-330-2 Year of publication: 2022 “Dare to Differ” is a phrase that encourages one to embrace their uniqueness and express themselves in ways that deviate from the norm or societal expectations, bringing new perspectives and possibilities to light. It promotes the idea of being bold, standing out from the crowd and having the courage to pursue one’s own path rather than conforming to the status quo. This book is not written just to highlight a belief in a system that works, but it is a story unveiling the journey of a doctor practicing for four decades; her passion and a quest to tell the world that all the systems of medicine whether conventional or traditional have their own strengths and limitations. She proposes that to work in an integrative model is the best approach for providing gentle cure, thereby reducing human sufferings, which is the sole aim of a physician. Reading this book is a real treat: it is unbiased, thorough and filled with a lot of very interesting details and scientific facts presented in a clear and concise manner. Personally, I felt that this book clarifies a lot of questions and confusion that many may have about alternative medicine. This small book packs years of learning in the clinic by the author through her observations, trials and experiments, leading to formulations of treatment regimens. The first part of the book depicts the journey of the author becoming a doctor in times when a girl’s education beyond a certain point was considered meaningless and arousal of dilemma whether existing knowledge of medicine was lacking somewhere that prevented complete annihilation of the disease. Dr. Chand’s own experience of suffering from drug-resistant urinary tract infection, the distrust felt in alternate medicine and subsequently to be treated by a homoeopathic physician aroused her inquisitiveness to know more about Homoeopathy. In her quest, she started reading homoeopathic books and prescribing homoeopathic medicine for small day-to-day ailments. The use of allopathy as the as main medicine and Homoeopathy for the relief of symptoms was an initial step for an integrative approach with the moto of relieving the suffering of humanity. She was soon famous and was known as ‘two prescriptions doctor’. She developed a keen interest in Homoeopathy and enrolled herself in a course. The second section, ‘Tryst with homoeopathy as homoeopath’, narrates the beginning of a single prescription doctor as a homoeopath after acquiring membership of faculty of Homoeopathy, Lond","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45897439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These are extremely painful types of chronic wounds. Treating arterial ulcers is a difficult task for the physician since supportive measures such as compression therapy and leg elevation are contraindicated. Surgical intervention is the ultimate approach to manage in conventional medicine. The homoeopathic system of medicine offers a wide range of medicines and a holistic approach to treat such cases non-invasively. Case Summary: Case Summary: A case of a 75-year-old woman who suffered from chronic ischaemic ulcer for the past year, successfully managed using frequent doses of homoeopathic medicines Arsenicum album and Calendula officinalis, is reported here. Case reports illustrate evidence-based classical or contemporary homoeopathic treatment strategies, diagnostics or rare or unusual diseases managed with homoeopathy. They also serve the purpose of raising awareness of important clinical issues amongst the homoeopathic fraternity. Our last case report special issue (Volume 16, Issue 2, April–June 2022) received more than 12,000 downloads within a year. This success has encouraged us to publish another case report special issue this year. Our journal has received 95 submissions in the form of case reports or case series within the last year (2022–2023).
