Data were collected using a questionnaire and were subjected to descriptive analysis, with distribution of absolute and relative frequencies, and Verosimility Ratio (VR) was applied because the conditions for the Chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests were not fulfilled. The significance level was set at 5%. \u0000Results: The number of questionnaires answered (n=151) was similar among all years of graduation, which provided a proportional quantitative representation of the studied sample. The sample comprised female students (52.3%), aged up to 26 years (93.2%) and single (91.4%). The choice for Dentistry was due to personal fulfillment (60.3%) and to become a heath professional (39.1%). At the beginning of the undergraduate course, 38% of the students expected a good upbringing in clinical practice and there is a tendency among the students to attend Graduate programs. \u0000Conclusion: Based on the obtained results, the profile of the students of this Dental School is represented mostly by young single women, with family income between 1 and 3 minimum wages, dedicated exclusively to the university. The choice for the course was motivated by personal fulfillment and there is a tendency to attend Graduate programs, with surgery being the area of greatest interest.

The children were assigned to subgroups according to gender (boys and girls) and dental caries (CC – caries cavities; CF – caries free). Dental caries was evaluated using the WHO criteria and kappa=0.87. The CC group was defined by the presence of at least three surfaces requiring restoration while the CF group was characterized by the absence of clinically detectable caries (ceo-s=0). The following salivary parameters were evaluated: salivary flow, total protein concentration and peroxidase enzymatic activity. The results were compared by the Student’s t-test, ANOVA and Tukey’s multiple-comparison test (p≤0.05). \u0000Results: Children with dental caries presented a 33% reduction of salivary flow compared to the caries-free children (p≤0.05). Method: First, a survey was performed to determine how many students practiced in each clinic and the teaching semester they were attending. One hundred samples were available for the study in the different clinics and all of them were analyzed. Two-millimeter increments were aseptically collected from each composite resin syringe in the outpatient setting. The samples were immediately to the laboratory and immersed in test tubes containing 5 mL of BHI (Brain Heart Infusion) culture medium. After 24-hour incubation period in a bacteriological incubator at 37oC the first reading of the culture medium turbidity was made by an experienced examiner, and the last reading was made after 48 h. A negative control group was established. The samples in which turbidity of the culture medium occurred were considered as contaminated. \u0000Results: 51% of the analyzed composite resin samples were contaminated, with percentage varying among the clinics. A strong correlation was found between the number of students practicing in the clinic and the percentage of contamination. \u0000Conclusion: At some point in the restorative procedure performed by the students occurs a failure that results in contamination. Therefore, there is a risk of cross-infection, which requires an alternative way to avoid this contamination in the procedures.
