The technology has contributed to many customers keeping off the banking hall for basic and routine transactions. This has largely been attributed to the convenience of mobile banking, including time management and increased privacy. However, there are still times when a bank conducts large-scale service provision for many people. For example, a payment agency contracted by the government to disburse funds to a section of the citizens may require that money be channeled only through a particular bank. If the period for such a requirement is limited, there is likely to be pressure on both the bank and the would-be customers because of long queues. For cases like that, there is a need to simulate possible scenarios and plan to avoid delays and frustrations for both parties. This work proposes a queue simulation model that can be used to forecast the number of bank staff that can be deployed for such a scenario vis a vis the expected number of customers seeking service. Results have shown that the simulation model can help the bank management make optimal choices that will avoid waste in the form of human or financial resources.","PeriodicalId":134487,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modeling and Optimization","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130790918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the research results in 1979, in 2011, we developed an exact method for fully solving the 4ITP with determinist parameters. However, because of the limitation of human in recognizing the imprecise natural events in the decision making science, it is necessary to use fuzzy numbers for uncertain condition. By extending the problem toward this direction, in this paper, we develop a method, an extension of fuzzy programming, solving the 4ITP when all parameters such as the cost coefficients, the supply and demand quantities, the goods type and vehicle type quantities are fuzzy numbers and obey the Gaussian law in order 2. We use Gauss method in the fuzzy programming to obtain the costs under form of point cloud. From these results, we use Pham’s method, a method for the conventional 4ITP, to obtain a point cloud with the agglomerating costs. By using Kronechker’s method, we extract the obtained minimal cost under form of an interval for a given solution. It allows us to obtain a goods allocation planning with the minimal total transportation cost.","PeriodicalId":134487,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modeling and Optimization","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129751979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, the authors presented the results of some measurements of pulse and contrast sensitivity (CS) at the daily walking tour of several kilometers, in the Nordic walking style. The recorded results were modeled by interpolation and were displayed in the form of graphics and processed images. The profile of the optical modulation transfer (MTF) function was simulated, as a function necessary to evaluate the contrast sensitivity. To this end, the authors evaluated the influence of screen brightness and the random motion due to the effort and fatigue accumulated in the human body by traveling the walking tour. The authors took into account the fact that mobility performance can be measured by the distance traveled, by the time required to cover this distance or by walking speed and, above all, by the variation of the contrast sensitivity following the effort of moving.","PeriodicalId":134487,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modeling and Optimization","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130114772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new potentials of big data seemingly continue to expand both in possibility and complexity. With efforts to exploit these new potentials requiring investments from businesses and organizations it becomes necessary to understand what value is gained from such efforts. Through the methodology of design science this study develops an artifact which incorporates the return on investment model which can be utilized by SMEs. The artifact provides an abstract process model for the use of value assessment of big data efforts by SMEs. This study finds through using test cases that the ROI model can be applied to a generalized artifact which guides the assessment of big data efforts. Further, it is found that through a graphical design the development of a simple and intuitive artifact can be accomplished.","PeriodicalId":134487,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modeling and Optimization","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122685014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The methodology applies an Agent-Based Model to model target movement, then uses nonlinear optimization methods to find optimal search plans. This methodology can optimize these search teams effectively and quickly. Pathfinder significantly increase probability of detection and decreases travel distance. In addition to advancing Search Theory, this methodology also has the potential to enhance current search and rescue (SAR) and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations.","PeriodicalId":134487,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modeling and Optimization","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129540845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It takes into account the loading and unloading of containers in ports. Once the vessels arrived at the quayside, they are unloaded by means of quay cranes and then transferred to the storage or transshipment areas. The Container Stacking Problem (CSP) is one of the major problems in seaport terminals, in particular in view of the considerable increase in the number of containers and the limitation of storage areas in the container ports. It has a considerable impact on the efficiency of port operations. In this paper, we propose a new mathematical model for determining the exact storage locations of incoming containers in the storage zone in order to minimize the total travelling distance from the quay to the storage location. The suggested model takes into account different types of containers. It has been validated based on the real case study of the Tunisian Sfax seaport. The obtained results are promising and the storage responsible is satisfied with the reached solutions.","PeriodicalId":134487,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modeling and Optimization","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133590238","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system uses a digital measuring system, consisting of a motor connected to a stopper that can be moved to the required cutting position, a mechanical movement system consisting of a screw and ball nut and a locking device with a rotary offset. The electronic system consists of a Human Machine Interface (HMI) data input, an electronic measuring controller, and a servo motor with an encoder for high precision distance measurement. The whole system is coordinated by software which allows for several measurement options: in inches, illustrated with either decimals or fractions, or in millimeters. The user input and stopper position are displayed in real time. The device facilitates the adjustment of speed and acceleration parameters. Additionally, the offset dimensions can vary according to user-defined lengths. The graphical interface is very user-friendly and consists of 5 pages for various settings and display of information.","PeriodicalId":134487,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modeling and Optimization","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123892754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
