The method is based on the use of generalized generation distribution factors (GGDFs) and generalized load distribution factors (GLDFs). These factors are employed to quantify the usage of the transmission system by considering the day-ahead market outcome. Under this allocation scheme, the system conditions are still reflected in the nodal prices since the allocation shares are computed base upon such conditions after the day-ahead (forward) market is cleared. The method is illustrated and compared to others methods in a three-node system, and extended to a five-node system. Under these conditions there exist a feedback from the load currents to the load voltages hence this situation makes the OFC based system a closed loop adaptive system which may represent an unstable or poor transient response behavior. By identifying the source equivalent circuit an improved OFC algorithm (IOFC) has been proposed. The proposed control algorithm considers the load voltages variation due to the load current variation. At first the DB4 wavelet is applied to decompose the signals containing disturbances, and to extract the feature vectors by wavelet coefficients at all scales according to Euclid distance measurement. Then disturbance types are recognized through the pattern recognition classifier based on neural network and genetic algorithm. Referred to the principle of differential protection in bus and line protections, the disturbance energy is defined as the characteristic, and disturbance location is solved by comparing the direction of disturbance energy and topology relation of related measurement points. The software system realizing above recognition and location of disturbances is developed for testing the approach. A 'Sen' transformer (ST) uses transformer and tap changers that are traditionally used to build a voltage-regulating transformer (VRT) and a phase angle regulator (PAR). The ST regulates the voltage at a point in the transmission line as a VRT does. Additionally, the ST provides an independent and bidirectional active and reactive power (P and Q) flow control in the transmission line as a voltage-sourced converter (VSC)-based unified power flow controller (UPFC) does. Although both the ST and the PAR use a comparable number of components, the ST provides an area of controllability in the P-Q plane similar to a UPFC, while the PAR provides a linear P-Q characteristic. The technology of transformer and tap changer is proven to be reliable and cost-effective when compared with the emerging technology of VSC. The proposed method makes use of a hybrid method of parallel tabu search (PTS) and ordinal optimization (OO) to determine the optimal combination of capacitor banks. OO is used to supplement the performance of PTS so that computational time is significantly reduced to carry out on-line capacitor control. PTS has a couple of strategies. One is the decomposition of the neighborhood of tabu search (TS) into subneighborhoods to speed up computational time. The other is to use multiple tabu lengths that make solution candidates diverse to obtain a better solution. The proposed method is successfully applied to a sample system. This technique leads to important cost reductions when compared with conventional alternatives using high voltage power transformers. However, some problems such as ferroresonance and overvoltages can occur in these substations during different operating conditions. The purpose of this paper is to assess the occurrence of these phenomena in the case of system energization. Some computer simulation test results are provided to highlight that the occurrence of ferroresonance depends on some parameters such as the amount of residual flux, the type of transformer winding connection, switching sequence of system energization and the initial angle of the system input voltage. Also it is shown that common ferroresonance suppression methods such as three phase simultaneous switching can not prevent these dangerous transients. The proposed method considers nonlinear characteristics of the practical equipment and actual limited measurements in distribution systems. The method can estimate load and distributed generation output values at each node by minimizing difference between measured and calculated voltages and currents. The feasibility of the proposed method is demonstrated and compared with an original particle swarm optimization based method on practical distribution system models. Effectiveness of the constriction factor approach of particle swarm optimization is also investigated.
