Niger continues to record epidemic outbreaks despite the actions taken. This study aims to analyze the national database from 2010 to 2019 to characterize the epidemiology of measles in Niger. This is a descriptive retrospective study. Our sample is exhaustive of suspected and positive measles cases from the database of the department of surveillance and response to epidemics for 10 years. Data extraction and analysis was done using Epi Info 7.2.3.1 software. In our study we found n=11,784 suspected measles cases notified from 2010 to 2019 with 37.2% of positive cases (IgM+). All regions are concerned. The female/male sex ratio was 1.1. The 1-to-5-year age group was the most representative (44.44%); 28.3% received at least one dose of vaccine; 62.22% lived in urban areas. The number of deaths was 225 (1.9%). The proportion of samples received at the laboratory within 3 days is 70.38%. The baseline analysis allowed us to find that all regions recorded cases and deaths with a low vaccination rate of 28.3%. Improved response and immunization strategies are recommended.
","PeriodicalId":131455,"journal":{"name":"The Pan African Medical Journal","volume":" ","pages":"18"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9674528/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"40712972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Smartphone indirect retinal photography involves focusing the bright flashlight from the light emitting diode (LED) source on the rear side of the phone on the patient´s retina. Phototoxic hazards of the bright light on the already compromised patients´ retina raise concerns that require safety studies. Most reports on oromandibular reconstruction in children are limited to surgical techniques instead of long-term follow-up, especially in resource-limited settings. We reported a 9-year-old child who presented with a massive oromandibular defect caused by a high-energy gunshot. Firstly, the patient was treated with debridement, lower defect edges approximation, and tracheostomy. After one week, the procedure of OCFFF was performed, and two months later, the lower lip was reconstructed using a tongue flap. There is very low participation rate in screening practice for cervical cancer in low-resource countries like Ethiopia. So the aims of this study is to assess cervical cancer screening practice and associated factors among women employees in Wolaita Zone hospitals, Southern Ethiopia.

Methods: facility based cross-sectional study design was conducted from March 1-April 30, 2017. Simple random sampling technique was employed to select 401 study participants. Pre-tested self-administered questionnaire was used. Logistic regression was performed to assess association between dependent and independent variables with 95% confidence interval (CI) and p-value less than 0.05 was set to declare association.

Results: about 120 (30.5%) participants were screened for cervical cancer. Age, source of information from health professions, being adherence supporter, sex with more than one partner, sexual transmitted infection, increase in attitude and knowledge score were significant predictors of cervical cancer screening practice.

Conclusion: magnitude of cervical cancer screening practice among age eligible women is still low. Age, being adherence supporter, source of information from health care professionals, history of multiple sexual p artners, sexually transmitted infection, knowledge and attitude were important predictors of cervical cancer screening practice. Hospitals in collaboration with town administration should put priority on cervical cancer prevention by establishing cervical cancer screening campaign.
","PeriodicalId":131455,"journal":{"name":"The Pan African Medical Journal","volume":" ","pages":"318"},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9664511/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"40712911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
