In this work, a smart parallel processing technique with 4 threads is completely derived, implemented and exploited to increase the bandwidth of the generated chirp signals using a hybrid system based on direct digital frequency synthesizer with low cost and minimal hardware overhead, in addition to having a smaller ROM size with respect to the other existing techniques in the literature.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117010137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These algorithms in general use several virtual channels to pass faults. In this paper, a new wormhole-switched routing algorithm for irregular 2-dimensional (2-D) mesh interconnection Network-on-Chip (NoC) is evaluated, where not only no virtual channel is used for routing but also no virtual channel is used to pass oversized nodes (ONs). We also show improvement of message passing parameters of ONs as well as comparing simulation results of our algorithm and several state of art algorithms. Simulation results show that our evaluated algorithm, i-xy, has a higher saturation point in comparison with extended-xy and OAPR algorithms. Furthermore, the network uses i-xy has higher throughput compared to other networks which uses e-xy and OAPR up to 100 percent, for the irregular 2-D mesh NoC. Moreover, simulations performed in three different traffics for better illustration.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129060868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The confidence limits predicted with the novel algorithm called Error Maximization (EM) method are evaluated with respect to two other more established CLA algorithms based on an Experimental Sensitivity Matrix (ESM) and on a sensitivity matrix obtained with the LS nodal heads equations state estimator. The predicted confidence limits show that the novel EM algorithm is comparable to the other CLA algorithms shown in the paper and due to its computational efficiency renders it suitable for online decision support systems for water distribution systems.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128120615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although invasive weed optimization is a great algorithm to solve real world practical optimization problems but there is a serious drawback in distributing the seeds over the search space. A new concept will be presented to distribute seeds of each weed over the search space which increases the robustness and effectiveness of algorithm, and therefore leads to an improved invasive weed optimization. Simulation on a set of unconstrained benchmark functions reveals the superiority of the proposed algorithm in quick convergence and finding better solutions compared to the original invasive weed optimization.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125526133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is no doubt that WLANs are prone to failures. In order to improve the quality of service (QoS), performance characteristics of such systems should be considered together with the system availability modelling and evaluation which are associated with failures and recovery. This paper presents an analytical model for perform ability modelling and evaluation of a WLAN. The spectral expansion method is employed for the exact solution of the analytical model considered. The proposed analytical model and its solution can be used to evaluate the perform ability measures of such systems efficiently and accurately. Various perform ability measures such as mean queue length and blocking probability are computed and presented.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129391712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The existing WKR has been successfully solved rational functions with very few samples. The design and development of WKR is important in order to extend the capability of the technique with various kernel functions. Based on WKR, a simple iteration technique is employed to estimate the weight parameters with Gaussian as a kernel function before WKR can be used in predicting the unseen test samples. In this paper, however, we investigate various kernel functions with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) as weight estimators as it offers such flexibility in defining the objective function. Hence, PSO has the capability to solve non-closed form solution problem as we also introduce regularization term with L1 norm in defining the objective function as to solve training sample, which corrupted by noise. Through a number of computational experiments, the investigation results show that the prediction quality of WKR is primarily dominated by the smoothing parameter selection rather than the type of kernel function.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131615016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Candidates' answers to a survey questionnaire are used by an expert system to generate specific questions relevant to the candidate and her/his educational profile, and to recommend suitable broad areas of upgrading. After the candidate selects an area, the software produces a refined questionnaire, which leads to a list of recommended courses. In a third and final step of refinement, the software queries the candidate about their knowledge of each course and produces a detailed study plan. Once the proposed study plan is accepted by the candidate, Soft Counsel searches educational and training providers in the designated geographical area and provides a list of those that match the study plan.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125206989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A set of new representation patterns allows business analysts to map processes described through BPMN into conditions and actions of business rules. Our approach exploits Domain Specific Language techniques in order to make the methodology independent from the programming language supported by the specific rule engine. Moreover, this work proposes a web graphical editor, instantiated on a specific sample scenario, where the selected rule engine is Drools, one of the most used open source products. The developed editor allows business analysts to graphically define business rules and to automatically generate executable code compliant with the selected rule engine. The case study and the resulting benchmarking show the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121995163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, these values are shuffled and confused using blackjack based scrambling scheme using logistic map. In this scheme threshold values are first generated for each pixel and then using parameters like threshold value, direction variable and destination position, pixels are scrambled. Security analysis of the encryption scheme is done, governing very high key space, very high key sensitivity, and the ability to sustain statistical and differential attacks. Also, we have achieved 100 percent accuracy in decryption. Thus, proposed algorithm can be used by any application for securely transmitting digital media over a network such as in military applications, satellites, and video conferencing.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122407876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Non-Statistical metrics for estimating redundancies in forensic investigations of network intrusions","authors":"J. Nehinbe","doi":"10.1109/EMS.2011.93","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/EMS.2011.93","url":null,"abstract":"Most statistical methods do not perfectly conform to real cases of cyber crimes. Consequently, using statistical methods to analyze intrusion logs in order to present evidentiary values in courts of law are often refuted as baseless and inadmissible evidences regardless of the input spent to generate the reports and whether the reports are well-grounded evidences or not. Sometimes, complainants are often bewildered and confused because it is almost certain that the prime suspects will be absolved in courts of law. These are tragic developments to computer security experts, corporate and private organizations that leverage on the usage of the Internet facilities to boost service delivery, business activities and profitability. Thus, this paper presents non-statistical metrics that adopt Serialization Modelling Method (S2M) to improve interpretations of intrusion logs. The approach instantiates tokens and serializes alerts triggered by Snort using well-defined values. Experiments illustrate that duplicate tokens or patterns of alerts that exhibit increased propensity are indicative of redundant alerts to a certain degree.","PeriodicalId":131364,"journal":{"name":"2011 UKSim 5th European Symposium on Computer Modeling and Simulation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130693435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
