OBJECTIVE: As the COVID-19 is still a very prevalent part of people’s lives, it is critical to examine what factors affect telehealth, impacts the choice of the prominent and efficient healthcare service platform, and utilizes telehealth effectively and efficiently. METHODS: Grounded on the Self-determination theory (SDT), this research analyzes a sample of 142 response data for the effects of access, need, knowledge, and technology skills, on telehealth utilization mediated by satisfaction via Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). RESULTS: The empirical results indicated that telehealth satisfaction significantly increased the use of telehealth services during the pandemic. Meanwhile, the access, needs, and knowledge of telehealth also significantly increase telehealth utilization directly and indirectly through telehealth satisfaction. Additionally, an individual’s technological skill has no significant effect on telehealth use; instead, it can increase telehealth satisfaction, which increases telehealth utilization. CONCLUSION: The study with its theoretical and practical implications may provide researchers and public health officials with new options and strategies for telehealth services regarding the pandemic issue.","PeriodicalId":13113,"journal":{"name":"Human systems management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45902724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to study the limits of human performance (in Air Traffic Controllers and pilots) a new concept was created, called the Human Performance Envelope (HPE). OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to apply the principles of the complex system to the analysis of the human factors of the HPE concept. Moreover, this paper’s objective is to create a mathematical model that will give the opportunity to study all the physiological ergonomic factors, not only the ones that are most commonly studied. The most studied factors are mental workload, stress and situation awareness (SA). By applying the mathematical model, it is possible to analyze all the physiological factors (stress, mental workload, fatigue, attention, vigilance and SA). METHODS: In the present paper the theory of complex systems (hybrid modelling) was applied to the Human Performance Envelope concept. A mathematical model was created, then it was validated and solved based on previous researches. RESULTS: Firstly, a literature analysis was performed on the complex systems application by the present researchers concerning pilots’ HPE. The proportional and inverse proportional relationships between the nine human factors were visually illustrated. Finally, a mathematical model was proposed, consisting of a set of equations, which were partially validated by the experiments on pilots done by other researchers. CONCLUSIONS: Further research is required to validate the whole mathematical model, including physiological measurements (experiments) for the six ergonomic factors and the applied heuristic psychosocial methods for the others.","PeriodicalId":13113,"journal":{"name":"Human systems management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44222782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Likewise, the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) program offers financial incentives to acute-care hospitals based on performance improvements on several quality measures included in the national Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey. A research gap exists with regard to assessing the effectiveness of VBP incentives on improving the patient’s quality of care. OBJECTIVE: This study is to determine whether hospitals which reported better patient quality metrics and lower frequency of pressure sores received higher reimbursements. METHODS: The data were retrieved from the CMS Care Compare website utilizing matched data from 2297 US hospitals. Information on HCAHPS, the VBP Program in Patient Safety Index, and Reimbursements was obtained for this study. Partial Least Square (PLS) was utilized thru SmartPLS 3.0 to test the hypotheses. RESULTS: The results did not reveal any financial penalties when hospitals reported lower patient quality outcomes and increased numbers of pressure sores. However, lower patient quality measures were associated with lower patient satisfaction. Controversially, lower patient satisfaction scores were associated with higher reimbursement rates overall. CONCLUSIONS: The main contribution of this study reveals that the effectiveness of value-based reimbursements and the concept of continuous improvement is constrained due to the lack of unified measurement objectives across US healthcare institutions.","PeriodicalId":13113,"journal":{"name":"Human systems management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41261019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although it is easier to perform COVID-19 self-examination (CSE), only a small percentage of people prefer it. There are no precise statistics on CSE in Malaysia, but informal data from news agencies imply low CSE. Lack of awareness and conflicting information about the reliability of CSE results may have raised concerns about CSE’s efficacy and effectiveness. OBJECTIVE: This study investigates how Malaysian older adults’ health beliefs influence their intention to perform CSE. The study developed a framework combining illness threats (ITH), perceived barriers (PBA), medical motivations (MMO), and control over illness (COI) from the Health Belief Model (HBM) with the Reasoned-Action Approach’s attitude (ATT), perceived control (PCO), and intention (INT). METHODS: Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analyses were conducted with AMOS 26 software to determine the influence of HBM on older adults’ attitude, perceived control, and intention. The study collected 200 data for the pilot study and 400 data for hypotheses testing. RESULTS: ITH, MMO, and COI have positive effects, whilst PBA affects ATT negatively. ITH and COI positively impact PCO, and PCO has a greater significant effect on INT than ATT. CONCLUSION: Given the HBM’s role in influencing older adults’ intention to perform COVID-19 self-examination, providing different levels of care and emphasising the perception of knowledge of illness are especially beneficial. Several recommendations are made to ensure that CSE remains relevant for older adults’ well-being, although COVID-19’s impact has become more stabilised.","PeriodicalId":13113,"journal":{"name":"Human systems management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44515988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Uncertainty, a decisive factor in today’s global environment, requires new research about human resources and companies. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unexpected need for change within organizations, especially in terms of human resources management, creating a complex and challenging environment that interferes with business continuity, forcing employees to cope with this challenging situation. OBJECTIVE: The article aims identifying the changes generated by the COVID 19 pandemic in the relocation of businesses from the European Union, assessing the relocation trends of companies around the world in European countries in this volatile macroeconomic environment. The sustainability of companies, the way they can overcome the crises generated by the pandemic depend mainly on economic, social, financial, political factors and human resource involved in the relocation process. Studying the influence of the pandemic on relocation decision contributes to better management of crises in the future and to reducing risks. METHODS: The study proposes an integrated ANP-TOPSIS (Analytic Network Process- Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) for ordering preference according to the ideal solution framework. Priority should be given to solutions that consider the interactions between factors involved in decision-making. The proposed model will increase the efficiency of the transfer decision-making process and help managers choose solutions effectively based on their importance and impact on the company and the human resources involved. RESULTS: The synthesis of the indicators and methods used, in addition to the factors that affect relocation, complements the specialized literature. The results showed a shift in business relocation options from east to west, demonstrating the current trend in the relocation issue associated with the COVID-19 virus. Eastern European countries are no longer as attractive for companies relocating compared to the pre-pandemic period. The countries with more stable economies, characterized by lower risks, seem to become more attractive to companies that relocate their facilities. CONCLUSIONS: The strategic positioning of the firm, its growth or adaptation to the present environment, and its geographic focus are fundamental components of a company’s migration. The selection of an ideal site is a research problem; not only to find a place where firms will have access to qualified human resources, to lower their costs, to be close to raw materials or the market, but also to prevent associated relocation hazards. According to research, today’s reality necessitates a risk-focused strategy.","PeriodicalId":13113,"journal":{"name":"Human systems management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2022-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44398796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consequently, the multimedia and digital competencies of the teaching staff were suddenly put onto the stage, resulting in the realisation that many of them were not sufficiently skilled to face this challenge due to a lack of prior training. OBJECTIVE: The goal of this explanatory research is to present and make a comparison of key training programs, deemed best practices, that address different ways to assist higher education teaching staff to acquire the multimedia competencies required to be technologically- proficient in their classes. METHODS: A desk research provides the data for a multiple case study of courses implemented in universities of five European countries, namely Spain, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Romania, and Slovenia. RESULTS: The results of the study show a total of 28 courses ranging from how to deliver online teaching to gamification, going through other topics such as photo and video editing, that enable higher education teachers to acquire digital skills. The main challenges detected for the success of these training programs are the teachers’ lack of time for training, non-positive attitudes towards technology, and lack of innovative capacity in their teaching processes. Among the positive outcomes, we can find that these universities opt for programs with courses varied in content, to cover a wider range of skills, as well as offering courses at several levels of development so that all staff may improve, from the very beginners to more advanced tools. CONCLUSION: By identifying the challenges and success factors behind the best practices hereby analysed, the lessons obtained from this research may serve as benchmarks for other universities to develop efficient multimedia training programs for university staff.","PeriodicalId":13113,"journal":{"name":"Human systems management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2022-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44410751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The question of how to ensure digital transformation in universities become topical at policy, institutional, and classroom practice dimensions. OBJECTIVE: The main objective of this study is to examine and explore how digital transformation in higher education in Kosovo is conceptualised in a changing context. The study focuses on teacher education as a pathway that links pre-university education with higher education system to ensure future teacher preparation. METHODS: The study used a qualitative research design. The data were collected through interviews with management staff (n = 3) and teacher educators (n = 7), and group interviews with student teachers (n = 15), at the University in Kosovo and teacher education institution. Following the principles of the hermeneutical circle, conceptualisations of digital transformation in teacher education were clustered into the following dimensions: (i) policy, (ii) organisation culture and management, and (iii) teaching and learning. RESULTS: The paper analyses the Western Balkans, specifically Kosovo, as the country faced the transition challenges including institutional building, limited administrative capabilities, and other challenges regarding educational process and digitalization. The paper contributes to the discussions with the emerging conceptualisations of digital transformation in teacher education by drawing from thematic areas concerning policy response mechanisms, teacher education policy as isolated from higher education framework, change management process, missing organisational culture, rigidity and resistance in teaching. CONCLUSIONS: The paper concludes that teacher education context should be reconceptualised within the higher education framework to better manage a transition and change settings for a shared conceptualisation and sustainable digital transformation.","PeriodicalId":13113,"journal":{"name":"Human systems management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2022-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47015795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
