In whatever military or civil magnetic field measurement, the practical optically pump magnetometer possesses a very important application value as well as prospect. This paper presents a portable lamp-pumped and digital-locking cesium atomic magnetometer, including the probe for detecting Zeeman transition signal and the digital servo system for locking the Zeeman transition frequency based on NI PCI-4461. The probe is lamp-based and as compact as 17 cm × 6 cm × 6 cm in size. The design of the servo system is to use frequency switching (at two frequencies) to create two corresponding voltages from the probe. When the voltages are equal, the center of the two frequencies appears to be the Zeeman transition frequency. The measurement of the magnetic field is experimentally realized with the noise level of 22 pT. The magnetometer is portable and highly compact with good sensitivity and has the potential of practical usage in the future.","PeriodicalId":129873,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Frequency and Time Forum (EFTF)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127653200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular we have implemented a new time scale TA(OCA) based on H-maser T4Science. The H-maser frequency is steered with an HROG-10 microphase stepper. The correction applied is computed every day taking into account the frequency of the free running maser and the actual time difference between TA(OCA) and UTC(OP). The main idea is to keep the time difference between our local time scale TA(OCA) and UTC below 50 ns, in order to time tag the SLR laser pulses and to have an error below 1 mm for distance measurement between satellite and laser station.","PeriodicalId":129873,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Frequency and Time Forum (EFTF)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133612526","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This emphasizes the need for effective material coefficients allowing for designing SAW resonators with a high level of confidence. The prediction of the device electrical response and more of its temperature coefficient of frequency (TCF) reveals now mandatory. In the proposed paper, the accuracy of the published data sets for LGS and more specifically their capability to predict measured TCF for several crystal cuts supporting Rayleigh and surface transverse waves is assessed. Data from Kaminskii (1983), Ilyaev (1986), Silvestrova (1993), Sakharov (1995) and Bungo (1999) have been used to systematically evaluate their capability to predict first and second order TCF. Considering the experimental data set used to assess the tested coefficients, the authors finally propose a combination of data set allowing for accurate prediction of the device behavior at room and elevated temperature.","PeriodicalId":129873,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Frequency and Time Forum (EFTF)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122226195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Often SAW tags and sensors operate in 2.44 GHz ISM band using relatively narrow bandwidth B= 82.5 MHz. The characteristics of these devices can be improved using UWB technology. We have developed two prototype devices operating in 200MHz-400 MHz and 2000MHz-2500 MHz UWB frequency ranges. A UWB interrogating device (the “reader”) operating in continuous wave radar mode for 2.0-2.5 GHz range was developed and manufactured by T. Ostertag. The remote measurements show compressed RF pulses of about 2 ns duration, which include unique RF filling of a few sinusoids with amplitude modulation. Precise measurement of the pulse position is possible by correlation methods, avoiding the phase ambiguity problem. The temperature is measured with a precision of about 0.1 °C. This correlation method works even in an environment with strong reflections from metal objects. The short compressed pulses allow measuring a number of sensors simultaneously. For tag application, we measure and identify three different tags at the same time without a collision problem, and this number can easily be greatly increased. Using of Hyperbolically Frequency Modulated (HFM) signals in SAW-tags is also discussed. A UWB SAW-tag with extremely small chip size (0.8mm × 2.1 mm) has been demonstrated. We also briefly discuss the development of 6GHz SAW-tags.","PeriodicalId":129873,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Frequency and Time Forum (EFTF)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133108187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We observe a temporal evolution of the intrinsic clock transition frequency and compare it to the frequency variations of the clock transition induced by different physical effects for gas cell atomic clocks. The measured cell frequency drift is found to be comparable with a slow reduction of the buffer gas pressure inside the cell. These studies are of relevance for the development of miniature atomic clocks for precision time keeping and portable applications.","PeriodicalId":129873,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Frequency and Time Forum (EFTF)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133214438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Passive Hydrogen Maser (PHM) has been selected as master clock of the Galileo Navigation Payload and three years of continuous observation on board of GIOVE-B satellite has confirmed the outstanding performance in terms of frequency stability and negligible drift. Results coming from ground life testing have given important feedbacks on the PHM technology capability to comply with the required 12 years of lifetime. The above was the starting point for the development of other Atomic Clocks solutions like POP Rubidium clock and Mini PHM (mPHM). The main target is to preserve the excellent PHM frequency stability performance with a reduction of the overall mass and power consumption. Selex ES have started activities in the area of atomic clocks for navigation back in 2000 with the development of the PHM for Galileo. In 2005 the first qualification model was successfully tested making it possible to fly the first PHM on board GIOVE-B in 2008. Today 32 FM models have been delivered to the Galileo constellation and eight of them are flying on board IOV satellites. This paper presents an overview of the atomic clocks time stability central role in a Navigation Satellite System mission, an overview of POP and mPHM main performances and characteristics, the topics of the Selex-ES industrial approach leading to the industrialization of PHM clocks for space and the establishment the manufacturing and testing facilities at Nerviano premises.","PeriodicalId":129873,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Frequency and Time Forum (EFTF)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129253067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ultrastable signal is copropagating with data traffic using wavelength division multiplexing. We have developed some repeater stations to amplify and filter the ultrastable signal between each sections of the link and compensate the propagation noise. The remote operation of these stations is a key element for the deployment of a reliable and large scale metrological network.
