Existing ADSL circuits use comb-FIR-FIR decimation filter structures, which have low throughput, more hardware and high power consumption. Unlike existing ADSL circuits, we design a novel high speed filter architecture and implement it using the minimal signed digit (MSD) representation. The MSD representation is suitable for common subexpression elimination, and it significantly reduces the number of adders required for the filter synthesis. Each digital-filter structure is simulated using Matlab, and its complete architecture is captured using DSP Blockset and Simulink. The resulting filter architecture has higher throughput, less hardware and consumes less power than the comb-FIR-FIR and comb-IIR-FIR architectures. The filter has been implemented on Xilinx FPGA using Virtex-2 technology. Compared to the comb-FIR-FIR and the comb-IIR-FIR architectures, the designed decimation filter architecture contributes to a hardware saving of 82% and 74%, respectively; in addition, it reduces the power dissipation by 91% and 79%, respectively.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. This challenge is especially acute in the military where there is an increasing reliance on the contracting of logistics support functions at a time when the nation is engaged in the \"global war on terrorism \". The successful development and implementation of an innovative decision support system (DSS) has resulted in an effective solution for one Army installation. This paper analyzes this DSS effort, from a knowledge sharing viewpoint, and compares the findings to current research in order to identify the various knowledge sharing principles incorporated within the DSS. The paper presents a general knowledge sharing model, that was derived from an analysis of this working DSS, that can serve future research and development efforts for contract quality management in both the government and private industry.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Recent works have suggested the analogous role of the immune system to computer security systems. As artificial immune system research progresses, a growing number of components of the human immune system have been incorporated, raising opportunities for further research and understanding. In particular, this work focuses on the development and testing of an agent-based model of a complex network to demonstrate and evaluate the concept of comparative relative strength (CRS) in artificial immune systems. CRS stems from a comparison of the overall strength of the host entity of an immune system to individual agent strength, this case in an artificial immune system (AIS). This principle has been employed to facilitate selection in a model of an AIS. Using the development and testing of an agent-based model of a complex network to demonstrate and evaluate the concept of comparative relative strength (CRS), this research introduces this concept.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. A body of relevant literature is reviewed to answer a central question on the efficacy of OLTP and OLAP integrated environments, and the central question is made tractable by its decomposition to the essential questions that must be answered regarding the feasibility of various methods and architectures for integrating data architectures. Additional coverage is given to proposed architectures and methods for real time data warehouses in the context of OLTP and OLAP data integration. This qualitative study uses an interpretivist epistemology to reach conclusions about the literature's treatment of the topic and the justification and need for data integration to accomplish real time data analysis in the business enterprise.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The ADC outputs are used in digital-analog hybrid coding which uses residual error voltage transmission along with digital codes in a pipelined system of special design. The fully differential design in standard 0.18 /spl mu/m CMOS technology employs a 12 bit, 60 MS/s paralleled-pipelined flash ADC. Such a pipeline ADC is the best candidate for applications where digital bit stream and analog residue both can be derived for hybrid digital-analog coding. Time interleaving provides increased throughput and signals for implementing QAM when necessary. The ADC targeted for achieving a high precision RF sensor telemetry application dissipates 90 mW from a single 1.8 V supply. Special attention has been given to ensuring adequate linearity for this system.. The digital-analog baseband signals are time/frequency multiplexed when transmitted on the RF carrier. The signal is regenerated in the receiver by summing the outputs of the DAC in the digital channel and the analog signal as necessary.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. A unique wavelet based residual encoding technique is shown to find differentially expressed low level PS when immersed in non-uniform locally varying background pixel intensity levels and/or when collocated with their high intensity counterparts. Additionally, a comparison of the results of the residual encoding versus two commercial proteomic toolsets is presented. In general, first an area of increased intensity must be recognized as a possible PS so that its intensity can be determined and its location identified. The second step is the matching of multiple PS representing the same protein on different gels so abundance comparisons can be made. PS segmentation is significant in that secondary abundance algorithms rely on the accuracy of the data produced by the segmentation stage. If the segmentation stage can be automated in a consistent, accurate, and efficient manner it will reduce false-positive PS recognition error rates and the need for manual intervention during the abundance process.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. WME delivers classroom-ready lessons that are well-prepared, interesting, effective, as well as interoperable. Lesson pages contain easy to use special-purpose manipulatives to help students understand and explore mathematical concepts and skills through hands-on activities. Manipulatives are parameterized for easy customization and object-oriented for interoperability. Mathematics-oriented chat and bulletin boards facilitate communication and discussion. Additional features enable teachers to easily tailor lessons to suit the needs of their classes, to create and conduct assessments, and to help students overcome difficulties. A pilot project puts WME through in-class trials with a prototype site, a step towards a model WME site that can be easily deployed to different schools. WME has many advantages and the potential to create a Web for mathematics education, to foster a new paradigm for supporting and delivering mathematics education, and to help mathematics curricula improve exponentially.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. In some areas, these clusters represent a cost-effective alternative to the more expensive supercomputers that are in use today. However, workstation clusters normally lack the high-powered interconnect fabric, as well as the more optimized protocol system architecture that is an integral part of commercial supercomputer systems. This study quantifies the speedup of parallel applications in a cluster environment in an analytical model that takes parallel processing, internode communication, and I/O latency into consideration. The model illustrates the (relative) impact that CPU and I/O parallelism has on the speedup behavior based on the 3 different inter-node communication scenarios: broadcast, nearest-neighbor, and request-response. This work revealed that it is important to consider the performance impact that the application has with regard to features such as remote memory access, completion notification, and address translation issues.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. By combining the predictive nature of such mathematical models along with the measured occurrences of disease, a more robust estimate of disease progression can be made. The Kalman filter is the method designed to incorporate model prediction and measurement correction. Consequently, we produce an SEIR model which governs the short term behaviour of an epidemic outbreak. The mathematical structure for an associated Kalman filter is developed and estimates of a simulated outbreak are provided.","PeriodicalId":129377,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings.
