This paper presents an approach to the integration of Air Force systems based on the concept of 'brokering' data between existing systems. The integration among non-homogeneous homogeneous data, tools and working environments is a key issue in the courseware development process. The basis of CAMCE is a software integration platform supporting specialized operating environments where different development methodologies can be implemented. It is based on a object model which allows a homogeneous view of every data and tool throughout the management of network of (multi-represented) objects connected via relations.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":129031,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Systems Integration","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132416158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since a database system must operate in the context of available operating system services, an environment for database systems development must provide facilities to support operating system functions and integrate them with database systems for experimentation. The authors chose the ARTS real-time operating system kernel. They present experience in integrating a relational database manager with a real-time operating system kernel and attempts at providing flexible control for concurrent transaction management. Current research issues involving the development of a programming interface and imprecise computing server are also discussed.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":129031,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Systems Integration","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133568716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since O-Raid supports a hybrid object-relation data model, an evolutionary approach to design was required. The use of Suite user interface construction tool led to rapid prototyping of the interface, which allowed the authors to experiment with the interface itself, leading to modifications and refinements to the initial design. They describe how O-UI was engineered using Suite, present their experiences, and discuss the related software integration issues.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":129031,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Systems Integration","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128846575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the needs of distributed and complex application systems, the authors propose a pre-planned development process. This integrated approach introduces the notion of a meta-level of control and management which coordinates otherwise independent projects. Domain analysis and integration architectures are identified as the two main components of the proposed generic integration framework. A document in the model is represented in a structured form, called a 'frame instance'. Users can group different frame instances into a folder. The algebra offers operations to manipulate both frame instances and folders. They extend the classical relational algebra by associating attributes with types, and supporting attribute inheritance. They also provide aggregate operators which can be applied to different frame instances in a folder. The proposed algebra is used as a sound basis to express the semantics of a high level query language for an office information system.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":129031,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Systems Integration","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115007061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
