Good agreement to VHF frequencies was observed between the theoretical, simulated and measured results for the travelling wave current on the insulated wire. In addition, comparison of the magnetic field calculated using this current with full wave simulated fields showed good agreement at various positions in the water around the wire.","PeriodicalId":128822,"journal":{"name":"2011 Military Communications and Information Systems Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130516791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the technical enablers for this concept are rapidly maturing, the operational challenges are quickly coming to the attention of military capability and network operation managers alike, forcing critical analysis of the operational requirements for the technology, and the ways that SATCOM can be applied to maximize resource utilization, support command and control (C2), and preserve the integrity of the joint operational network. This paper provides an analysis of ways a resource-constrained military organization can apply SOTM in support of network-centric operations, while recognizing the inherent constraints of the technology and proposing alternative technical concepts for consideration to support the Commander's C2 of the battle space.","PeriodicalId":128822,"journal":{"name":"2011 Military Communications and Information Systems Conference","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133189511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem becomes more complex when we consider placing additional nodes into a mobile adhoc network. The mobility of the network requires that relay placement be changed constantly in order to maintain network connectivity, and the calculation of relay co-ordinates must take place using partial (non-global) information due to scalability issues. This paper introduces the concept of performing distributed MANET relay placement within nodes' n-hop neighbourhoods. Networked Autonomous Vehicles (NAVs) act as mobile relays placing themselves at chosen locations. Various algorithms to maintain connectivity are suggested and compared, the most efficient being a bridge and articulation point detection (BAP) algorithm. It is shown that the combined use of up to five additional relay nodes and this algorithm can increase the average ground unit network connectivity by up to 82% and the size of the network's largest segment by up to 54% in mobile adhoc networks of 10 to 25 nodes.","PeriodicalId":128822,"journal":{"name":"2011 Military Communications and Information Systems Conference","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121492472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Defence architecture frameworks, such as the NATO architecture framework, are considered excellent means to support CD&E. There is not much empirical evidence, however, to indicate how enterprise architectures (EA) are applied in the military community or particularly in military CD&E. Consequently, this paper describes and discusses empirical application of the EA approach in CD&E. The research method in the paper is a case study. Situational method engineering (SiME) is used as a framework to adapt the EA approach to the case project of the paper. The findings of the paper suggest that the EA is applicable to CD&E work, although all aspects of the original concept could not be expressed in the EA model of the case project. The results also show that the SiME method can support in applying the EA framework to the CD&E in the case project.","PeriodicalId":128822,"journal":{"name":"2011 Military Communications and Information Systems Conference","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116536405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SMS SmartCache provides a distributed caching solution and operates transparently to the user with no changes required to the services or client applications. Caching can be performed at multiple levels ensuring that a failure at one point of the network does not affect the rest of the network. Whilst SmartCache has been demonstrated to work with geospatial data and services, the underlying technology is readily adaptable to other domains.","PeriodicalId":128822,"journal":{"name":"2011 Military Communications and Information Systems Conference","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129041574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Governmental and military initiatives are developing possible applications for Inter-Cloud Computing. One of the most important challenges for these initiatives is Security Management. Cloud providers have to manage and assure a secure Cloud usage within a multi-provider Inter-Cloud environment with dedicated communication infrastructures, security services, processes and policies. This paper focuses on the identification of components of a Security Management Architecture (SMA) within a Cloud provider. This includes the introduction of a general architecture of a Cloud provider based on the ideas of the DMTF and the description of a use case driven requirements analysis. By giving a Reference Security Management Architecture Cloud providers are guided to implement and adapt an efficient and effective Security Management solution for Inter-Cloud environments. Additionally, this paper gives an overview of current activities and pioneering projects of multinational organizations as well as of national initiatives.","PeriodicalId":128822,"journal":{"name":"2011 Military Communications and Information Systems Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129382220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
