The system uses \"Checkpoint\" operation to reduce the overall recovery time. The architecture of the cloud makes it possible to eliminate the effect of system failure by always taking the DB to the next consistent state. We present a novel scheme of eliminating the effect of such failure. Thus, in our system a transaction always commits irrespective of system failure. We refer to our system as AAP (Always Ahead Processing). We have made transaction execution persistent by combining together transaction execution and transaction failure and its subsequent recovery as one seamless operation eliminating system downtime during recovery. The end result is a DB system with high availability and fault-tolerance. Our work enables cloud providers to offer transactional HA-DBMS as an option that too with multiple data sources not necessarily relational.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132291206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Numerous online communities are formed and disappear, but only a few survive the competition. Even after the survival, they eventually suffer from a decline as time goes on. Formation of a small intimate group within a community is often observed, and the members of this tightly-connected group play an important role providing strong activity in the community. However, the development of such an intimate group can exhibit a dark side effect: Other members in the community may feel left out and isolated, and newcomers may have hard time to join the already established intimacy. We believe that such a development of the tightly connected group of small number of intimate members can harm the further growth of the whole community, eventually reducing the community size. In this paper, we propose a growing network model in which the strength of the intimacy among members is a tunable control parameter. We observe how the size of the giant component is affected by the strength of the intimacy and find that it takes longer time for new nodes to make strong connections when the intimacy becomes stronger. Such alienated newcomers lose their connections and are driven out of the system, reducing the size of the connected component of the network.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133245364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Technology has become a big part of aiding these people but most of the equipments do not provide enough utility and convenience. One of the major problems for those visually impaired individuals is to navigate through indoor buildings without having extra equipment or devices with them. Currently, there is technology for outdoor navigation, such as Google Maps, however navigating through indoor buildings requires further development. This research is developed an application on a mobile device, being used widely in this group of people, with available sensors provided on the devices. Therefore no extra equipment are needed for those visually impaired individuals. The application is a prototype and has been tested to navigate successfully in a single floor of a building.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131409948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such abstractions can very well represent the underlying dynamics of the system when modeled as network of vertices coupled by edges. Prediction of dynamics in these structures based on topological attribute or dependency relations is an important task. Link Prediction in such complex networks is regarded useful in almost all type of networks as it can be used to extract missing information, identify spurious interactions and evaluate network evolving mechanisms. Various similarity and likelihood based indices have been employed to infer different topological and relation based information to form a link prediction algorithm. These algorithms however are too specific in domain and/or do not encapsulate the generic nature of the real world information. In most natural and engineered systems, the entities are linked with multiple type of associations and relations which play a factor in the dynamics of the network. This forms a multiple subsystem or a multiple layer of networked information. These networks are regarded as Multiplex Networks. This work presents an approach for link prediction on Multiplex Networks where the associations are learned from the multiple layer of networks for link prediction purposes.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114469321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Background Subtraction is the most intuitive method using singlefixed threshold for foreground extraction. Some techniques makeuse of correlated nature of RGB intensities, but can't resolvethe ambiguities of using a single fixed threshold. Moreover, segmentation has side effects like moving cast shadows and SelfShadow, both of which reduce accuracy. In this paper, we presentan automatic shadow removal method to extract objects. Theanalytical comparison with other foreground extraction, shadowdetection and removal algorithms and their results are alsopresented for better understanding. The proposed method extractsilhouette without any pre or post processing step of shadow removal.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121541432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Computer-Assisted Sperm Analysis (CASA) systems provide a rapid and automated assessment of the parameters of sperm motion, together with improved standardization and quality control. In this paper, we propose a method to detect and track animal sperms automatically. First, we detect the sperms in the first frame of all the sequences using a bag-of-words approach and SVM classifier. Then, the detected sperm cells are tracked in the rest of all sequences using mean-shift. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on three videos in our datasets which have sperms as ground truth. The experimental results show that our method achieves a precision of 0.94, 0.93 and 0.96, and are call of 0.96, 0.92, and 0.97 for the three videos respectively in terms of sperm detection. RMSE (Root mean square error) is calculated to evaluate our results in terms of sperms tracking. The results show that we achieve high performance with RMSE of 8.06, 9.01, and 7.09 pixels for three different videos.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122641644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thirteen annual non-overlapping windows are created by Bonferroni correction of p-values used to estimate a partial-correlation threshold for portfolio of 60 stocks belonging the SP100 index. We analyze each network structure by applying tools from Information Theory and descriptive quantifiers from complex networks to quantify and compare evolving network's topologies. We have found that stock network structure drastically changed after the year 2006, and network has higher level of randomness in the structures of year 2008 and year 2011.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122657722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To realize content based video searching, in this work we propose scene based video annotation for the identification and labeling of events and objects in a video with a descriptive text. Video annotation requires a knowledge base to define semantic meaning of events and objects in the video. Manual and semi-supervised video annotation approaches fail as both require expertise for the correct identification and labeling of video concepts. Annotation requires a great deal of concept dependency and relatedness processing to give descriptive statement to a scene in the video. This paper introduces a novel scene based video annotation framework to provide scene level semantic description of videos. The framework uses audio component of the scene to support event and object identification and has proper filtering and normalization. The framework provides concept relatedness, concept formulation, shot and scene level video annotations. To validate the capability of the proposed framework, we developed a prototype that shows a scene level video annotation. The framework is evaluated using a standard video processing evaluation dataset for its accuracy in event and object prediction, and the overall accuracy and usability of the system is evaluated using human ratings. The proposed approach exhibits 81% accuracy in object and event prediction and an average user rating of 3.47 out of 4 in overall system evaluation.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121041051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By observing the fact that the conventional WRGB image reproduction methods are based on unreliable color decomposition of the white signal in the three primary colors Red, Green and Blue. A robust estimation method is proposed to separate the green signal from the white signal. According to their symmetrical distribution, in the meanwhile, to coincide the sensitivity of the white signal with that of green signals, the green value in white pixel position is refined by the spectral correlation of the neighboring color ratio. Since the green color is populated robustly, the other color (Red, Blue) channels can be reproduced by conventional de mosaicking methods. Experimental analysis of images revealed that our proposed algorithm provided superior performance in terms of both objective and subjective image quality compared to conventional White-RGB algorithms. Our implementation has very low complexity and is therefore well suited for real-time applications.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117118707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We suggest that, under certain conditions, regions containing such details can be identified and altered in a way that benefits image compression. We define change blindness maps and a compliant texture synthesis method to identify, remove and subsequently recover pixels which are subject to change blindness. Unlike comparable methods, ours is particularly intended for images with complex textures. We demonstrate via a subjective experiment that up to 15% of such an image can be altered in a way that is considered as natural and acceptable.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128016120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
