Inherited from Chinese culture, this mild physical activity has been believed good for health and management of chronic conditions for thousands of years. However, data evidence is not considerable. Recently, walnuts rotating was reported to be beneficial for the treatment of diabetes and dyslipidemia. Furthermore, experiments showed hand function improvement after walnuts rotating training. Walnuts rotating in hand could keep the body in constant status of physical activity, which makes fun and demands little endeavor. And hand-gripping exercise was reported to enhance the release of nitric oxide (NO), which is a conducive agent for chronic conditions, such as pain and cardiovascular problems. More importantly, according to traditional Chinese medicine theory, playing the walnuts enhances body fitness mainly by dredging the meridians and stimulating the acupoints whereon because the walnuts have got many bulges well-touching the acupoints dotted over hands and fingers while moving. Therefore, this exercise may achieve a similar yet constant effect as acupuncture with much less effort and no economic burden. Acupuncture has been confirmed being able to stimulate the production of NO. This study summarizes the benefits of walnuts rotating with the goal of sharing this precious leisure-time sport for fitness and prevention and management of chronic diseases, to the good of the population worldwide.","PeriodicalId":12806,"journal":{"name":"Gazzetta Medica Italiana Archivio per le Scienze Mediche","volume":"373 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134995395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of 4-week intervention program of plyometric exercises on Reactive Strength Index (RSI) and vertical stiffness on cross fit athletes.METHODS: Thirty-three participants with a mean age 30.41±7.05 years, body mass 75.32±11.91 kg, and body height 174.55±7.27 cm volunteered to participate in this study. Participants were randomly separated in two groups, experimental (EG=14) and control (CG=15) group. The experimental group consisted of athletes who followed the regular fitness training program and who also performed a specific program of plyometric exercises, while the control group included athletes who performed only the standard training program. One day before the inception of the intervention program, the participants were evaluated on the RSI and the vertical stiffness, performing five jumps with the maximum possible effort with the shortest possible contact time during the execution of the jumps, while the vertical stiffness was evaluated with the execution of 20 jumps of maximum intensity at a specific rate of 2.5 Hz on a Chronojump platform (Chronojump, Barcelona, Spain). The intervention training program lasted four weeks, three sessions per week, every 2 days always the same hours and included thirteen different plyometric exercises.RESULTS: No significant interaction effect was found for RSI (F=1.295, P=0.265, η2=0.046), and no significant main effect for group (P>0.05). On the contrary, significant main effect was found for time (F=9.114, P=0.005, η2=0.252). EG showed a slight decrease in RSI (P>0.05), however, CG revealed a significant reduction after the end of intervention program by 17.41% (P<0.022). No significant interaction effect was found for vertical stiffness (P>0.05). However, significant main effect was found for time (F=11.182, P=0.002) and significant main effect for group (F=4.828, P=0.037). Percentage improvement was 10.59% and 6.52% for the EG ad CG, respectively.CONCLUSIONS: The application of plyometric exercises causes an improvement in the explosive strength of the lower limbs in CrossFit athletes.","PeriodicalId":12806,"journal":{"name":"Gazzetta Medica Italiana Archivio per le Scienze Mediche","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134995382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aerobic exercise training is reported to have beneficial effects on physical and mental health. The aim of this systematic review was to provide the existing literature assessing the effect of aerobic exercise training on ANS, indexed by changes in HRV, in healthy adults.EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: This systematic review was performed accordingly to the PRISMA statement. The electronic databases used were PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Cinhal, and SportDiscuss. Studies published between January 2000 and April 2022, and investigating changes in HRV after aerobic exercise training in healthy adults were included. Studies were assessed for methodological quality by TESTEX and STARDHRV scales. This review was registered in PROSPERO under number CRD42022322429.EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: Of the total studies first retrieved in the literature search, 16 studies were eligible and analyzed. Fifteen of 16 studies showed improved HRV after aerobic exercise training. Moreover, exercise training characteristics including its type and intensity, and cardiac vagal activity at baseline may be factors to be considered for the improvement of HRV. However, studies’ quality assessment revealed some methodological limitations.CONCLUSIONS: Aerobic exercise training is effective for improving the autonomic function. HRV measurement is an easy method to reveal ANS activity; however, discrepancies in methodologies used are still observed and make comparability between studies difficult. Standardization of processes used is recommended for studies of exercise interventions and HRV assessment.","PeriodicalId":12806,"journal":{"name":"Gazzetta Medica Italiana Archivio per le Scienze Mediche","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134995393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
