This compensation scheme relevant to flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) technology is used worldwide to improve system dynamic performance. The device increases power transfer and improves the damping of electromechanical oscillations when used in transmission systems. The proposed controller for the SVC is based on fuzzy set theory and is called fuzzy logic controller (FLC). Input signals for the FLC are chosen as generator speed deviation and accelerated power. The quantity of reactive power supplied/absorbed by SVC is determined based on the two input signals at each sampling time. The control signal is calculated using fuzzy membership functions. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed control method is demonstrated by a one machine infinite bus system.","PeriodicalId":127287,"journal":{"name":"DRPT2000. This is the case of harmonic injection produced by both the parallel and series units. In this way, this paper contributes towards the investigation of the relationship between supply conditions and harmonic generation by the well known STATCOM compensator. To achieve this, using space vector control and instantaneous power theory, a model of a parallel advanced static VAr compensator (ASVC) is developed and implemented into a time domain SABER simulator. Then, a typical arrangement consisting of a commercial type of shunt compensator connected to an ideal and nonideal supply is simulated in relation to the overall system/compensator dynamic behaviour and harmonic generation.","PeriodicalId":127287,"journal":{"name":"DRPT2000. The metric developed is valid for any differentiable generation cost curves and consumer utility functions. The results of extending of the metric to reflect the effects of the transmission network are also given. The formulation does not consider the time dynamics of the market. However the predictions of the metric were shown to be consistent with those derived from consideration of the markets time dynamics. Application of the metric to power market indicates that the stability of the market is in general a function of both market parameters, as well as its equilibrium states. That is in general power market stability is dependent on individual participants market-share and not just the functional forms of their cost or utility curves.","PeriodicalId":127287,"journal":{"name":"DRPT2000. The modelling is carried out in the phase domain considering the TCSC physical structure. A polyphase power flow program based on Newton algorithm is developed in order to implement the proposed model. Analysis of the TCSC performance is carried out in both balanced and unbalanced power network operating conditions. This kind of analysis will allow quantifying the many economical and technical benefits this technology promises, as well as examining the applicability and functional specifications of the controller.","PeriodicalId":127287,"journal":{"name":"DRPT2000. As different definitions are used worldwide, the paper briefly discusses the definition of DG. The future development of DG, however, will, to a not insignificant part, depend on the legal framework. As the legal framework can vary significantly for different competitive electricity markets, this paper briefly identifies and analyses some variations in the regulatory approaches, e.g. for power exchanges, balance services and ancillary services, in different countries. It also illustrates the influence of market regulations on the development of distributed power generation. Based on this analysis, it can be concluded that regulatory aspects might decisively influence the development of distributed power generation.","PeriodicalId":127287,"journal":{"name":"DRPT2000. The purpose of pricing is to recover cost of transmission, and encourage efficient use and investment. This paper utilizes location based pricing concepts and has suggested a nonlinear programming problem formulation to determine real and reactive power prices, with an objective to maximize the net social welfare within the system constraints. The paper also demonstrates the ability of FACTS devices to reduce the overall operating cost and their impact on transmission pricing. Two types of FACTS devices have been considered viz. static VAr compensator (SVC) and thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC). The concepts introduced in the paper have been investigated on a modified IEEE 14-bus system.","PeriodicalId":127287,"journal":{"name":"DRPT2000. Operating characteristic should have such shape to satisfy all conditions in the power system. However it is known that there is no combination of characteristics which can satisfy all possible conditions. So the only solution is modification of the operating characteristic. Solution of this problem involves two types of neural networks, multilayered perceptron and the self-organizing neural network, the so called Kohonen network. Here the authors consider a two-terminal transmission line, confirm that fault resistance and location of faults can produce erroneous relay function and finally suggest ways to ensure the generation of the correct signal for relay operation. With the simple simulation, the authors present the advantages of the particular models and the credibility of the developed models.","PeriodicalId":127287,"journal":{"name":"DRPT2000. A diversity of customer services are provided by the electricity suppliers and can include information services for example half-hourly load data. In the UK competitive market, consumers with half hourly metering, or with the ability to measure their electrical load profiles, have new possibilities of controlling costs as a result of the more detailed consumption data available to them. Load management and cost control opportunities that can benefit both supplier and consumer include incorporating the data into computer aided production management (CAPM) systems refining production scheduling, or implementing management strategies utilising the load and cost data. The paper includes case studies demonstrating consumer cost savings.","PeriodicalId":127287,"journal":{"name":"DRPT2000. This paper describes how computational markets can be used to handle the application of demand side management. Demand side management enables electric power companies to reduce peak loads and thereby save money. A load is any device that consumes electric energy in this situation. Due to the large number of different loads, demand side management is a complicated optimization problem. The authors present a new interactive approach to this problem by using utility functions of electric power marketers. This approach provides an online estimation of the functions. In addition to them, it can deal with time-variable tendency of customers.","PeriodicalId":127287,"journal":{"name":"DRPT2000.
