Both species were collected on leaves of species of Lauraceae in the Fushan Botanical Garden, described and illustrated with drawings and photographs, and their host insects for the first time identified as members of the Diaspididae (Coccoidea). The specificity of Septobasidium species against diaspidid hosts is discussed with respect to the presumptive modes of nutrition of the Diaspididae known from literature.","PeriodicalId":12667,"journal":{"name":"Fungal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83523863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fourteen samples from traditional markets and wine manufacturers were collected and isolated seventeen predominant filamentous fungi from peka. They were identified based on the morphological characteristics and these strains were as, namely, Amylomyces rouxii, Rhizopus microsporus var. chinensis, Rhizopus microsporus var. rhizopodiformis, Rhizopus oryzae and Mucor indicus. Among them, R. microsporus var. chinensis, R. microsporus var. rhizopodiformis and M. indicus are new to the fungal flora of peka in Taiwan.","PeriodicalId":12667,"journal":{"name":"Fungal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78260386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From these four forms, cold water extracts were prepared and their antioxidant properties were studied. Cold water extracts from mature and baby Ling chih and filtrate showed high antioxidant activities as evidenced by low EC50 value (<0.1mg/mL) whereas that from mycelia showed a EC50 value of 0.34mg/mL. With regard to reducing power, the EC50 value for Ling chih was lower than 1mg/mL, whereas other EC50 values were 3.64–4.30mg/mL. Baby Ling chih was more effective in scavenging ability on 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radicals as evidenced by its low EC50 value of 4.66mg/mL whereas other EC50 values were 10.14-11.72mg/mL. Four forms of G. tsugae were much more effective in scavenging ability on hydroxyl radials as evidenced by low EC50 value (<0.1mg/mL). Mature and baby Ling chih were more effective in chelating ability on ferrous ions than mycelia and filtrate. From EC50 values obtained, cold water extracts possessed good antioxidant properties, especially antioxidant activity and chelating ability on ferrous ions.","PeriodicalId":12667,"journal":{"name":"Fungal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81968094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Xylaria regalis was found to show the highest activity. An PAHs-degrading enzyme was purified to homogeneity from the culture mycelium of X. regalis. The crude enzyme was subjected to a series of purification procedures, including QAE Sephadex A-25 anion exchange column, hydrophobic interaction phenyl 650M column and Fractogel HW-55 column chromatography, respectively. The enzyme was purified 70.5 fold, giving a 45% yield. The specific activity was 4690U/mg. The molecular mass of the purified PAHsdegrading enzyme estimated by SDS-PAGE was approximately 29kDa. The optimal pH of the purified enzyme was 8.5 and the enzyme was stable between pH 8.0-9.0. The optimal temperature of the enzyme was 30℃ and it's activity was still stable at higher temperatures. The enzyme was found stable within 2h at 100℃ and retained 60% of activity after 8 h incubation.","PeriodicalId":12667,"journal":{"name":"Fungal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79834899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
