To determine the species identity, this yeast was analysed morphologically, physiologically, and phylogenetically. Neither ballistoconidia nor sexual reproduction was observed. Sequence analysis of 26S rRNA gene indicates that Cryptococcus zeae, Bullera kunmingensi, Cryptococcus luteolus, Bullera sinensis are the most closely related species, with 96.0 to 96.7% sequence similarity. But they only show low sequence similarity with the yeast obtained in this study in the ITS region (91.2 to 96.2%), and differ physiologically from it in the ability to assimilate creatine, creatinine and imidazole, and to grow in 0.1% cycloheximide. Judging from these comparative analyses, a novel species, Cryptococcus taiwanensis, is proposed, with BCRC 23252(superscript T) (=CBS 12180(superscript T)) as the type strain.","PeriodicalId":12667,"journal":{"name":"Fungal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78222114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After two months, no primordia appeared under constant dark, red and yellow light; primordia appearance of blue and white light treatment were 83.3% and 75%, respectively. Low mycelial growth temperature had significant effects on indeces such as days of primordia appearance, days of 90% primordia appearance, days of major primordia appearance, percentage of plate with primordia appearance, and number of primordia per plate. The mechanical treatment increased the number of primordia per plate. The optimal conditions for inducing primordia of P. eryngii var. ferulae were that mycelia cultured at 25℃ without mechanical treatment and then incubated at 15℃, the next was mechanical treated 30℃ incubated mycelia cultured incubated at 15℃. Among low temperature treatments, the primordia were poorly or not induced at temperature higher than 20℃. The dual temperature treatment decreased the percentage of plate with primordia appearance and was not able to reduce the days of primordia appearance.","PeriodicalId":12667,"journal":{"name":"Fungal Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88998432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
