The most active tectonic structures during this period within which strong seismic events occurred are determined. The results of a survey of macroseismic manifestations of March 29, 2018 and March 7, 2019 earthquakes, which occurred in the eastern part of the Tajik depression, and their isoseist maps are presented. An assumption about the possible influence of two large reservoirs on the increase of the seismicity of the region is made. An analysis of the depths of earthquake sources in comparison with the geological and tectonic structures of the region is made. The difference in the depths of earthquakes, determined by different seismological services, makes it difficult to link the source of seismic events to tectonic structures and to determine their parameters.","PeriodicalId":126512,"journal":{"name":"Earthquakes in Northern Eurasia","volume":"25 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138972734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The monitoring of seismicity was carried out 21 stationary digital and 3 temporary stations of Ukraine with a processing centre in Lviv and six stations of Moldova with a processing centre in Chisinau. The consolidated catalog of earthquakes was created in Lviv. The total number of Carpathian earthquakes in 2018–2019 was NΣ=99 in the range KR=4.5–13.6 within the interval of hypocenter depths h=0.4–157.5 km, with total seismic energy ΣE=4.2·1013 J. The maximum earthquake with KR=13.6, MSH=5.3 and hрР=150.6 km was registered on October 28, 2018 in the Vrancea zone. The epicentral zone was subjected to shaking with an intensity up to Ii=V by MM (Mercally) scale. The earthquake was felt by the population of Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova and other European countries. In the Precarpathian and Transcarpathian regions, all earthquakes were weaker. For Transcarpathia, their energy class was in the range of KR=5.5–7.9, and the depths was in the range of h=0.6–8.0 km. The strongest event in Precarpathian was a tangible earthquake that occurred in the Drohobych district of the Lviv region on September 27, 2018 with KR=7.3 at a depth of 1.7±0.9 km. The strongest event in Bukovina was an earthquake of March 24, 2018 with KR=9.4, МSH=2.4 and h=1 km near Novodnestrovsk city, Ukraina, which was felt by the population of the village of Lomachintsy with an intensity of 4 points. In Novodnestrovsk, the earthquake was felt only on the upper floors. In general, in 2018–2019 there was a slight decrease in the level of seismicity in seismically active areas: № 1 (North-Western), № 2 (Vrancea), № 5 (Bukovina) and № 8 (Bacau), compared with that in the previous period 2016–2017. In areas № 3 (South Carpathians), № 4 (Banat) and № 7 (Transylvania) there was no earthquakes, and in area № 6 (Krishana) only there was one earthquake with КР=10.8, MSH=3.2.","PeriodicalId":126512,"journal":{"name":"Earthquakes in Northern Eurasia","volume":"31 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139002724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Seismic monitoring of this territory was carried out by networks of seismic stations of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine. In most regions, the seismic process occurred in the background. In Northern Eurasia as a whole, the total seismic energy in 2018 (Еan=17∙1016 J) remained unchanged compared to that for the previous year, and in 2019 fell to Еan=0.65∙1016 J, with annual values of released energy for 2018 and 2019 were significantly lower than its average annual level for the period 2006–2017. (Еan=5.3∙1016 J). The “Angular Uplift earthquake” on December 20, 2018 at 17h01m with MS=7.4 (MwGCMT=7.2), localized in the surface layer of the seismofocal zone of the Commander segment of the Aleutian arc with the epicenter in the Pacific Ocean was the strongest for the period 2018– 2019. Maximum shaking intensity on the tyerritory of Northern Eurasia (I=6–7) was caused by earthquake on July 6, 2018 at 01h40m with MwGCMT=6.2, h=75 km in the seismofocal zone of the Kuril Islands–Southern Kamchatka and Katav-Ivanovsk earthquake on September 4, 2018 at 22h58m in the Chelyabinsk oblast (Ural and Western Siberia region). The Katav-Ivanovsk earthquake is also unique in that it was accompanied by a significant number of aftershocks, which is the first known case for tectonic events within the Urals. In addition, it demonstrated that the natural seismic potential of the Urals exceeds the man-made component by orders of energy","PeriodicalId":126512,"journal":{"name":"Earthquakes in Northern Eurasia","volume":"41 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139003166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In August 2018, the Salom-Alik station was added to the 25 seismic stations, functioning on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, and in April 2019, the Jany-Kuch station was installed. In 2018, 4 stations (Buston, Nukus, Sukok, Khiva) of 45 stations operating in the previous year in Uzbekistan were closed out. So, data of 41 seismic stations of Uzbekistan were used in 2018 and 2019. 2018 was relatively calm as regards to the seismic activity: the consolidated catalog of earthquakes included 231 events with KR=8.6–13.0. The maximum by energy was the earthquake of September 3 at 21h52m with KR=13.0, located at the territory of neighboring China. The foreshock close by energy was registered 73 seconds before it (KR=12.1). The main shock was accompanied by aftershocks, the maximum of which occurred on September 4 at 02h51m with KR=11.6. In 2019, the seismicity of the region remained almost at the level of the previous year: 210 earthquakes with KR=8.6–12.4 were registered. The strongest earthquake in this year's catalog occurred on January 12 with KR=12.4 also in China. The earthquake was felt in 15 settlements at distances up to 52 km from the epicenter with an intensity of 3 to 5 points. The earthquake occurred in the Black Sea zone of occurrence of earthquakes. The scalar seismic moment М0 and the spectral moment magnitude Mw=3.9 were calculated based on the spectra of seven regional stations. The focal mechanism was constructed based on the signs of the first movement in the P-wave at 68 stations. It is established that a thrust has occurred in the source along a northwest-trending plane dipping to the northeast, which is consistent with the orientation and dip of the fault planes of tectonic structures in the area of the source. Two earthquakes of June 6, 2018, with МL=3.6 and МL=4.3, as well as two shocks on September 10, 2019, with МL=4.7 and with МL=3.9, were felt in the nearest settlements with an intensity of 5 or more points. For three of them, according to the collected macroseismic data, isoseist maps were constructed and macroseismic parameters were determined. The tectonic situation at the sites of the foci of these seismic events was also taken into account. Zamankul earthquake was felt in five settlements with an intensity from 2 to 3–4 points despite its relatively low energy class. The intensity at its epicenter is estimated as I0=4. According to the results of the macroseismic survey of Yandare earthquake, a map of its impact in 22 settlements is built. The data are approximated by isoseists of Ii=2, 3, 4, 5. The intensity in the epicenter is estimated as I0=5–6. According to the focal mechanism solution, the earthquake occurred under the influence of prevailing compressive stress. The type of movement in the source is reverse fault with significant strike-slip component. Comparison of the nodal planes with the tectonics of the region made it possible to choose as the active nodal plane NP2 of southeastern strike, coinciding with the orientation of the Dattykh-Akhlov fault zone, to which the source is confined. Within two years 29199 earthquakes with KS=1.6–10.1 were located for Northern volcano group, 714 earthquakes with KS=1.6–7.6 – for Avacha volcano group, 247 earthquakes with KS=1.7–7.3 – Mutnovsky-Gorely volcano group, 116 earthquakes with KS=2.6–8.7 for Kizimen volcano, 315 earthquakes with KS=2.2–10.9 for Zhupanovsky volcano, five earthquakes with KS=6.2–8.3 for Kambalny volcano and four earthquakes with KS=5.2–6.7 for Karymsky volcano. Maps of epicenters, quantities of seismic energy and earthquake distribution according to class are given. All periods of activity were fixed and investigated by remote methods in 2018–2019: intensive volcanic activity of Sheveluch volcano associated with new cone, two paroxysmal explosive eruptions of Bezymianny volcano and the summit explosive-effusive eruptions of Kluchevskoy volcano.","PeriodicalId":126512,"journal":{"name":"Earthquakes in Northern Eurasia","volume":"42 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139002765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
