However, much of their potential can only truly be unlocked by giving them a higher level of autonomy. This paper focuses on an autonomous Collision Avoidance System using Specific Acceleration Matching, which is termed the ‘CASSAM’ in this paper. This approach is being studied as it may prove an effective means to increase the level of autonomy of UAVs. The paper presents the design of the CASSAM first by modelling the UAV dynamics and then by designing suitable control algorithms. The measurement and verification (M&V) activities are guided by the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol in many countries. However, the M&V is largely believed to be an inaccurate science: an engineering practice with a lot of professional judgement. This paper presents a mathematical description of the M&V problem and thus casts into a scientific framework of the basic M&V concepts, propositions, techniques and methodologies. We start with a general description and modeling of energy systems, then introduce the idea of developing an M&V plan as an M&V modeling problem. M&V models are shown via examples to be established by analyzing physical laws, measured data, or stochastic processes. As an application of this framework, we provide sufficient conditions to choose the M&V options. Finally, we introduce a notion of optimal M&V design. In vehicular applications, cognitive radios typically transit regions with differing densities of primary users. Therefore, speed of detection is key, so detection based on a small number of samples is particularly advantageous for vehicular applications. Without assuming any prior knowledge of the primary user's signaling scheme, the channels between the primary user and the cognitive user, and the variance of the noise seen at the cognitive user, a generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) is developed to detect the presence/absence of the primary user. Asymptotic performance analysis for the proposed GLRT is also presented. Performance comparison between the proposed GLRT and other existing methods such as the energy detector and several eigenvalue-based methods under the condition of unknown or inaccurately known noise variance is provided. It then evaluates the effect of using the two criteria on call blocking/dropping probability in HWNs. The main objective of the proposed algorithm is to reduce new call blocking probability and handoff call dropping probability in HWNs. An analytical model is developed for the RAT selection algorithm, and its performance is evaluated in terms of new call blocking probability and handoff call dropping probability. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated for three different scenarios, in order to study the effect of RAT flexibility, with regard to uplink and downlink resources allocation in HWNs. Simulation results for the three scenarios are compared. This was shown to be the fastest among all competing algorithms of the same order of computational complexity. However, its convergence rate depends largely on the selection of its step size. Coincidentally, this is the only parameter needed to be specified for the algorithm, making its structure simple in comparison with other algorithms. In the original article, only the region in which the step size could be selected in order to ensure stability is given. Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC) is deemed to be the long-term solution for LTE and UMTS voice handover. The scheme is modeled on handover signal flows. The analysis is done using a Radio Link Control (RLC) Protocol model, a network node queuing model and a remote network model. The simulation of the handover performance was on these three models. In this paper, the Ziegler-Nichols control parameter determination is applied to a PIC18F4520 microcontroller in order to control a thermal oven used for curing of materials. Classical bang-bang, PI and PID control each have disadvantages, but adding simple fuzzy reasoning to the control eliminates some of these, thereby producing an improved controlled system.
