Ayurvedic approach of treatment includes the prevention and promotion of health as well as cure of the diseases. These two objectives of Ayurveda are fulfilled through the proper knowledge of eight clinical specialties of Ayurveda i.e. Ashtanga-Ayurveda. Kayachikitsa (Medicine), Kaumarbhritya and Balroga (Pediatrics), Grahavidya or Bhutvidya (Science of Demonology), Urdhvanga (ENT & Ophthalmology), Shalya-Tantra (surgery), Damshtra (Toxicology), Jara or Rasayana (Rejuvenation and Geriatric Medicine) and Vrisha or Vajikarana (Aphrodisiacs) these eight specialties are known as Ashtanga-Ayurveda. Different Ayurvedic Samhitas (authentic classical texts) were composed initially comprising of Ashtanga-Ayurveda viz. Charaka-Samhita, Sushruta-Samhita, Bhela-Samhita, Harita-Samhita, Kashyapa-Samhita and Samhitas of Vagbhata. These Samhitas excels in one specialty along with subject matter of other specialties such as Charaka-Samhita excels in the area of Kayachikitsa, Sushruta-Samhita excels in surgical description and Kashyapa-Samhita (KS) excels in the area of Kaumarbhritya and Balroga (Ayurvedic Pediatrics). Kashyapa-Samhita (KS) also known as Vriddha- Jivakiya Tantra is written by Vriddha Jivaka on the base of teachings of his teacher Kashyapa. In due course of time, it went out of tune with the age and was almost lost. Then Vatsya, of the same clan, received it from a Yaksha named ‘Anayasa’ and redacted it. This Samhita follows the pattern of earlier Samhita like Charaka-Samhita as it contains Ashta-sthanas (eight sections) in addition to Khilsthana. The Siddhisthana precedes the Kalpasthana where as in Charaka-Samhita it follows the Kalpasthana. The eight sections of KS contain 120 chapters and Khilsthana which is unique in this Samhita contains 80 chapters. Although this text is not fully available to us as many chapters and subject matter in between the lines is missed. So, what we see today is incomplete and mutilated form of the text yet it contains many useful information and knowledge. Therefore, author has decided to review this Samhita to bring its valuable knowledge in the notice of common populace.","PeriodicalId":125327,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ADVANCED RESEARCH IN AYURVEDA, YOGA, UNANI, SIDHHA & HOMEOPATHY","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130401799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: The trial drug Rasonadi kwatha was prepared as per the classical method of Kashaya kalpana. Total of 47 patients of Amavata fulfilling the inclusion criteria were registered, of which 30 completed the course of intervention, in a single armed, prospective, open label, cohort study, with pre and postintervention analysis design. Descriptive data including Mean, Standard Deviation (SD), Standard Error (SE), t-value and percentages were calculated for all variables in the trial group. The post treatment changes were assessed by paired Student t-test, taking 0.05 as the level of significance. Results: Effect of the intervention on Subjective criteria including Signs and symptoms of Amavata and objective criteria including Disease Activity Score 28, Grip strength, Foot Pressure and Range of Movement was statistically significant with P value 0.001 after completion of treatment. The trial drug showed 36.67% of Moderate improvement and 53.33% of mild improvement in subjects of Amavata in the present study. Conclusion: The formulation Rasonadi kwatha is efficacious in management of the disease Amavata w.s.r. to Rheumatoid Arthritis. The formulation is Ruksha (Dry) and Ushna (Hot potency) and thus it is a potent Amapachaka (digesting the Ama), breaking the primary pathogenesis of the disease. It showed statistically significant improvements in Samanya lakshanas and good results in Pradhana lakshanas of Amavata.","PeriodicalId":125327,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ADVANCED RESEARCH IN AYURVEDA, YOGA, UNANI, SIDHHA & HOMEOPATHY","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130504299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concept of holistic health is becoming popular in last few decades in modern medicine, but it existed in traditional healing methods from ages. The present paper discusses the yogic perspective of holistic health and wellness. It describes the concept of “five sheaths of existence (Panchkosha)”and yogic practices to take care of these sheaths. Yogic meaning of well-being is physical fitness, mental agility and spiritual verve. Yoga is curative, preventive and promotive science of health and wellness which encompasses all aspects of life. Prakriti -specific treatment including medicine, diet and lifestyle is a distinctive feature of Ayurveda. Prakriti also determines the retort of an individual to environmental factors, drugs and susceptibility to diseases making it one of the earliest-known concepts of preventive and personalized or genomic medicine. 1 Opposite to Prakriti is Vikriti which means diseased state of an individual. Until the normal is not known, abnormality cannot be found, so Prakriti plays an important role in determining Vikriti . Acharya Charaka has mentioned Dashavidha Pariksha in which Prakriti assessment is done first and Vikriti analysis next to understand the nature and severity of disease, reaction of body to the drugs (pharmacogenomics), selection of drugs and their doses, prognosis of the disease and preventive measures such as diet, diurnal and seasonal regimes. So Prakriti emphasizes on the individuality and plays an important role in diagnosis, preventive medicine, and therapeutics. it still needs more extensive research and evidence based analysis. Increased side effects, lack of curative treatment for several chronic diseases, high cost of new drugs, microbial resistance and emerging, diseases are some reasons for renewed public interest in complementary and alternative medicines.","PeriodicalId":125327,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ADVANCED RESEARCH IN AYURVEDA, YOGA, UNANI, SIDHHA & HOMEOPATHY","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129581171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has gained a lot of popularity around the world during the last century. Yoga, as many people often subscribe to, is not merely a method to attain mental peace, but also a powerful method to get rid of ignorance which causes various kinds of suffering in human life. ‘Education is the manifestation of the divinity already in man.’ It emphasizes on life-building, man-making, character-making, assimilation of ideas. The very essence of education is concentration of mind, not the collecting of facts. In ancient times, people used to go to sages to learn wisdom and to get answers to the fundamental questions of life. This was seen in all ancient civilizations – Greece, India, and China, in particular. However, over the centuries education has retreated from that position. We no longer claim to give wisdom, we give only information, our schools no longer give moral and spiritual values, only secular subjects are taught. The very much need of the education system is the education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one’s own feet. Yoga is not simply Asanas and Pranayamas. It also involves certain ethical practices. These ethical practices are known as Yamas and Niyamas. No educational system is effective unless it incorporates into itself these ethical practices.","PeriodicalId":125327,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF ADVANCED RESEARCH IN AYURVEDA, YOGA, UNANI, SIDHHA & HOMEOPATHY","volume":"357 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132995797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
