Limb amputation is usually replaced by prostheses to restore the look of the limb as well as the basic function of the missing limb that can assist patient on activities of daily living. Improvement on robotic prostheses in these aspects has been done extensively in the previous decade. The focus on current prostheses development is to use electromyography (EMG) signals in myoelectric control of the system through analyzing the remaining signal generated from the nerves or muscles left after amputation. Hill's muscle model requires both EMG signals and muscle length information to predict force that is produced at contact point. In this paper, the measurement of the muscle length using ultrasound imaging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using a well-designed portable thumb training system is described. The measurement done using ultrasound image is compared to the pre-measurement done by MRI in order to establish a set of references. The thumb training system is designed to allow the thumb to flex to range of degrees that have been defined in this research work. The result from the ultrasound imaging shows good accuracy in measuring thumb muscle length and thus allows the research work to proceed to model thumb-tip force based on Hill's muscle model.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128587933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the identity of cutter points and the points in double quaternion space, the mapping from position and orientation points in 3D space to elements of double quaternion space is constructed. The interpolation problem of position and orientation is transformed to interpolation curve design in double quaternion space. Based on spherical linear interpolation theory and Bezier recursive algorithm, a Bezier curve of double quaternion was designed, which is also the tool path including positions and orientations. Simulations show that the generated Bezier curve of double quaternion can effectively complete a smooth adjustment for position and orientation of tool path. This paper provides a new method of tool-path planning for 5-axis NC machining based on double quaternion, and the validity of the algorithm is proved.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129460574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The working principle of the proposed coupler is given. The generation of the magnetic force of the coupler is qualitatively explained by the reluctance theory. A theoretical model based on electromagnetic theory is built and solved in FEA code. The magnetic force on the armature and the magnetic torque on the permanent magnet are simulated with the permanent magnet being at different angular position. The influence of the physical dimension of the coupler is also studied. Finally, experiments are carried out to validate the theoretical work and exploit additional engineering features of the coupler.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126814001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And thus an appropriate thermal design for the compact LTD space optical system is necessary. Depending on the character of the optics, several optical components temperature indexes were achieved. The temperature level of the BaF2 filter should be high at 107–140 degree Celsius, but the best temperature of the mirrors is just at 20–40 degree Celsius. These present a challenging thermal control problem. We introduced thermal design for all optical components in details. Especially, the thermal design for the high temperature BaF2 filter took the great thermal resistance design approach to maintain the BaF2 filter within allowable temperature limits and minimize the influence on the temperature of the other optics. Subsequently, the camera finite element thermal model was established and the thermal test was also carried on. The results indicated that under the cold and hot extreme cases the filter average temperature could reach 106.5 degree Celsius and 139.0 degree Celsius, the control temperature precision was less than 2.5 degree Celsius and the temperature stability was less than 1.5 degree Celsius/2min. The temperature index of the mirrors and detector window also could be satisfied. Thermal design of the LTD space optical system with a large temperature difference is feasible and reasonable.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129206940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most contemporary remote animal dynamic physiological monitoring systems are invasive by nature, and require the implantation of sensors in rats. This technique is prone to infections and makes continued data collection difficult. Contrarily, the proposed noninvasive system uses photoplethysmographic signals that are amplified in three stages (front end) in conjunction with an adaptive filter (back end) to offset the signal distortion caused by vibrations. The accuracy of the system was subsequently tested by measuring the heart rate of a test animal in both anesthetized and free-moving states. The proposed system has the advantage of low wearing interference. In addition, it is also more stable and durable than invasive systems. Therefore, the system is expected to provide a convenient and effective tool for physiologists of basic clinical studies.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129338674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accurate simulation of the heat transfer coefficient remains a challenge for the prediction of external heat transfer on nozzle guide vane in aero turbine engine. In this paper the shear stress transport turbulence model results are compared against the measured data from Hylton et al., as well as the predictions from a 2-D boundary layer code-STAN5. The heat transfer distribution over the surface of two internally cooled nozzle guide vanes in a transonic annular cascade are investigated. Computational fluid dynamics model of the MARK II vane and the C3X vane were built and several modeling parameters are varied in order to obtain good agreement with the measured data. In addition, the influence of the exit Mach number and the turbulence intensity to the heat transfer of nozzle guide vane were invested.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123971488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The modeling results of a modified neural network neural network planner used for a robotic mobile object are presented. The design method is based on the bionic environment sensing in undefined conditions with stationary and mobile obstacles in a multidimensional space. The main design principal of the neural network planner structure is the hierarchical principle of information-processing systems. Based on this we present a hierarchical structure of a complex extrapolating multidimensional neural-alike network. Such network contains separate layers used on different stages to process the environment plan received from a robotic object's technical vision system. The hierarchical structure of a complex multidimensional neural-alike network is based on the following principles: object-oriented parametric synthesis, synthesis of weighted object position features with time sampling, and direction vector plans used to extrapolate such features. These plans with a certain probability determine the spatial position of related objects in future. We present the modelling results of selected methods used to detect round or spherical mobile obstacles based on technical vision system data and to predict their trajectories in two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. We present the results of software-based modelling of this approach to design neural network planner for the intelligent position-trajectory control system of mobile objects in two-dimensional space and in the simulation software package in three-dimensional space.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123998845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Being a part of typical daily activities, stairs with different sizes are supposed to be a usage scenario of exoskeletons aiming for extending patients' sphere of activities. This paper proposes strategies for automatically ascending/descending stairs with different sizes within the national standard based on the powered lower limb exoskeleton AIDER. The developed strategies employ infrared range sensors, foot pressure sensors and angle encoders to identify stairs whose sizes are computed based on kinematics. In addition, a methodology named “Stick From the Origin” aiming at recognizing stairs more accurately is proposed during the stair-ascending process. The Zero Moment Point (ZMP) stability criterion based on the foot pressures is utilized to ensure safety in the entire process. Experiments have been undertaken to testify the practicability and universality of the proposed strategies, by applying which AIDER can assist patients with various physiological characters to accomplish stair-climbing tasks.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"130 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124243995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
