The news dealer's problem has been used as a case study. The parallelization strategies have been presented. Several techniques have been explored to further increase the speed of GPU based code. The results code successfully obtains a speedup of nearly 6 times. We found that moving of some computation to GPU to reduce data transfer traffic and the correct exploitation of the memory hierarchy is crucial in enhancing the speed of GPU based code. Finally, the best practice discussed here is very useful for any practitioner who want to use GPU to enhance their code.","PeriodicalId":123701,"journal":{"name":"The 8th Electrical Engineering/ Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ECTI) Association of Thailand - Conference 2011","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123054757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Without optical amplifier and filter, the received WLAN IEEE 802.11g signals show acceptable EVM up to 36 Mb/s over 8 km of fiber. The gigabit baseband signal does not require electrical filter and has power penalty below 0.5 dB at BER 10−10 in the presence of wireless signal with optimal powers. In this paper, we reported an optical-based electronic nose system consisting of thin-film sensing materials, array of light emitting diode (LED), photo-detector and pattern recognition program. The organic mixtures thin film gas sensor was prepared by spin coating of Zinc-2,9,16,23- tetra- tert-butyl-29H,31H-phthalocyanine (ZnTTBPc), Zinc-5,10,15,20-tetra-phenyl-21H,23H-porphyrin (ZnTPP) and manganese(III)-5,10,15,20-tetra-phenyl-21H,23H-porphyrin chloride (MnTPPCl) onto a clean glass substrate. The electronic nose system was developed by using the low-cost LED array as a light source. Then the light intensity that is transmitted through the organic thin film during the experiment was detected by the color light to frequency converter device (photo-detector). The ability of this system was tested by using volatile organic compound (VOCs) vapors such as methanol, ethanol, and isopropanol. Principal component analysis (PCA) has been used as the pattern recognition for this electronic nose system. The result confirms that the sensing layer that composed of the three types of organic compounds described the groups of chemical vapors by using the array of LED.","PeriodicalId":123701,"journal":{"name":"The 8th Electrical Engineering/ Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ECTI) Association of Thailand - Conference 2011","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116979892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since power amplifiers are components which consume the major power in the entire system, improving power amplifiers' efficiency leads to significant improvement of the system's efficiency. One of the amplifier design concepts for efficiency enhancement is class-F power amplifier where the power transistor is operated as a switch. In order to obtain high power, the output voltage of the “off” state should be high, whereas the current should be zero. Thus, it is advantageous to use a power device with high breakdown voltage. This property is offered by power devices based on wide-bandgap semiconductor materials e.g. SiC, InP or GaN with GaN transistors as the most wide-spread and promising high frequency power devices. In addition GaN-based transistors offer also other advantages e.g. high power density, high frequency and temperature of operation, wide bandwidth, high output impedance for easy matching, etc… This paper proposes a high efficiency class-F power amplifier based on GaN HEMT with the operating frequency of 1 GHz. The optimum load and source impedance for the proposed class-F power amplifier are determined using load- and source-pull simulations. The output matching network was designed including harmonic resonators up to 5th harmonic. During the design process, the parasitics of the device's package are also taken into account in order to achieve the optimal class-F load condition at the intrinsic drain of the transistor inside the package. The fabricated class-F power amplifier achieved a maximum power added efficiency (PAE) of 68.45%. Simulation and measurement results have shown good agreement which confirms the accuracy of the device model under realistic condition of operation as a power device for a class-F power amplifier.","PeriodicalId":123701,"journal":{"name":"The 8th Electrical Engineering/ Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ECTI) Association of Thailand - Conference 2011","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117246477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An automatic evaluation and quantification of retinal vessel tortuosity would help in the early detection of such retinopathies and other systemic diseases. This paper proposes a new approach based on principal component analysis (PCA), for the evaluation of tortuosity in vessels extracted from digital fundus images. One of the strength of the proposed algorithm is that the index is independent of translation, rotation and scaling. Measures are adopted such that the proposed approach matches with the clinical concept of tortuosity. The algorithm is compared with other available tortuosity measures. We have demonstrated its validity as an indicator of changes in morphology using simulated shapes. It is superior to other putative indices, presented previously in literature.","PeriodicalId":123701,"journal":{"name":"The 8th Electrical Engineering/ Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ECTI) Association of Thailand - Conference 2011","volume":"19 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120836234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cholesterol sensor is fabricated by two-step electrochemical polymerized enzyme immobilization on a vertically aligned CNT electrode. Vertically aligned CNTs are selectively grown on a 1 mm2 window of gold coated SiO2/Si substrate by thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) with water-assisted etching. CNTs are then simultaneously functionalized and enzyme immobilized by electrochemical polymerization of polyaniline and cholesterol enzymes. Subsequently, ineffective enzymes are removed and new enzymes are electrochemically recharged. Scanning electron microscopic characterization indicates polymer-enzyme nanoparticle coating on CNT surface. Cyclic voltammogram (CV) measurements in cholesterol solution show the oxidation and reduction peaks centered around 450 and −220 mV, respectively. An approximately linear relationship between the cholesterol concentration and the response current could be observed in the concentration range of 50–300 mg/dl with a sensitivity of approximately 0.22 µA/mg·dl−1, which is considerably higher compared to previously reported CNT bioprobe. Therefore, the electropolymerized CNT bioprobe is promising for cholesterol detection in normal cholesterol concentration in human blood.","PeriodicalId":123701,"journal":{"name":"The 8th Electrical Engineering/ Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ECTI) Association of Thailand - Conference 2011","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127355945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
