The embedding corresponds to a virtual-to-physical mapping of nodes and links, subject to capacity constraints. Since, in practical scenarios, node and link demands are typically much smaller than the peak values specified in the virtual network requests, in this work we propose and investigate a robust optimization approach. This allows us to find solutions with a much larger profit which, at the same time, are guaranteed to be feasible with a high probability. To this end, we propose a robust Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) formulation for VNE, based on the well-known model of Γ-robustness. To solve larger scale instances, for which the exact approach is computationally too demanding, we also propose a MILP-based two-phase heuristic which relies on Γ-robustness.","PeriodicalId":123545,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on the Design of Reliable Communication Networks (DRCN)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125430776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Analytical models provide a valuable support in the design of reliable networks, especially for large scale applications, where simulations do not provide the required scalability. This paper proposes an analytical model for multi-hop IEEE 802.15.4 networks that incorporates significant improvements compared to previous models. Comparisons of the model with simulations using the MiXiM framework for OMNeT++ exhibit a very good compliance. The analytical model is therefore adequate for assessment of very large wireless mesh networks. Additionally, the model yields new insights into the characteristics of IEEE 802.15.4 networks, regarding the impact of acknowledgment collisions and the influence of hidden nodes on retransmissions.","PeriodicalId":123545,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on the Design of Reliable Communication Networks (DRCN)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128562362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the interference between D2D user equipments (DUEs) and cellular user equipments (CUEs) must be properly handled to realize the expected gain. Fractional frequency reuse (FFR) is a promising technique to mitigate the interference between DUEs and CUEs and hence improve the performance as well as reliability of the entire system [4]. In this paper, the coverage performance of both CUEs and DUEs are analyzed in an FFR based D2D underlay uplink cellular network. We model the spacial distribution of DUEs as a homogeneous Poisson Point Process (PPP), which can facilitate tractable mathematical coverage analysis. Theoretical analysis is validated by numerical results.","PeriodicalId":123545,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on the Design of Reliable Communication Networks (DRCN)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124586155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For some countries, earthquakes are the largest threat among natural disasters. It is difficult to forecast them, and their impacts are huge. An earthquake occurred in March, 2011 in Japan, and the massive tsunami triggered by that earthquake was a stark reminder of the severe damage that is possible with such a huge earthquake. Similar damage occurs every few years worldwide. In addition, global warming results in stronger and more devastating natural disasters. Consequently, disaster management has become even more crucial for many network operators.","PeriodicalId":123545,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on the Design of Reliable Communication Networks (DRCN)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126672832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the business continuity context, Recovery Time Objective (RTO) has been used as a criterion to specify the allowable maximum time to recover from system failure events. While RTO gives the requirement for system recovery time, performance degradation of infrastructure service during the recovery period is another dimension that should be taken into consideration. In this paper, we introduce survivability as a generalization of recovery behavior which can address the performance impacts during the recovery and show a survivability quantification example in a escalating and deferred repair system.","PeriodicalId":123545,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on the Design of Reliable Communication Networks (DRCN)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134546916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since sensor readings in WSNs are highly correlated and are suitable to be transformed in DCT domain, in each cluster in the network the sensory data is transformed and only a small number of large DCT coefficients are sent from the cluster-head (CH) to the base-station (BS) directly or in multi-hop routing. All data from the network can be recovered based on the transformed large coefficients at the BS. Based on stochastic problems, we analyze and formulate the communication cost as the power consumption for transmitting data in such networks. Some common clustering algorithms are applied and compared to analysis results. Both noise and noiseless environments for this method are considered.","PeriodicalId":123545,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on the Design of Reliable Communication Networks (DRCN)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116741876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Heuristics that use redundancy adding k extra links in the topology are a common class of countermeasures seeking to enhance Internet robustness. To identify the nodes to be linked most previous works propose very simple centrality criteria that lack a clear rationale and only occasionally address Intra-domain topologies. More importantly, the implementation cost induced by adding lengthy links between nodes of remote network locations is rarely taken into account. In this paper, we explore cost-effective link additions in the locality of the targets having the k extra links added only between their first neighbors. We introduce an innovative link utility metric that identifies which pair of a target's neighbors aggregates the most shortest paths coming from the rest of the nodes and therefore could enhance the network connectivity, if linked. This metric drives the proposed heuristic that solves the problem of assigning the link budget k to the neighbors of the targets. By employing a rich Intra-domain networks dataset we first conduct a proof-of-concept study to validate the effectiveness of the metric. Then we compare our approach with the so-far most effective heuristic that does not bound the length of the added links. Our results suggest that the proposed enhancement can closely approximate the connectivity levels the so-far winner yields, yet with up to eight times lower implementation cost.","PeriodicalId":123545,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on the Design of Reliable Communication Networks (DRCN)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131223618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

COD is a pre-requisite to trigger fully automated self-healing recovery actions following cell outages or network failures. A special case of cell outage, referred to as Sleeping Cell (SC) remains particularly challenging to detect in state-of-the-art SON, since it triggers no alarms for Operation and Maintenance (O&M) entity. Consequently, no SON compensation function can be launched unless site visits or drive tests are performed, or complaints are received by affected customers. To address this issue, we present and evaluates a COD framework, which is based on minimization of drive test (MDT) reports, a functionality recently specified in third generation partnership project (3GPP) Release 10, for LTE Networks. Our proposed framework aims to detect cell outages in an autonomous fashion by first pre-processing the MDT measurements using multidimensional scaling method and further employing it together with machine learning algorithms to detect and localize anomalous network behaviour. We validate and demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed solution using the data obtained from simulating the network under various operational settings.","PeriodicalId":123545,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on the Design of Reliable Communication Networks (DRCN)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124507542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
