Employing the queueing theory for non-prioritized scheme between the circuit and packet calls, we solve the 2-dimensional random vector problem composed of the queue length for packet calls and the number of circuit calls served. Consequently, packet-level performance is analyzed in terms of the packet loss probability and the required buffer size under mixed-traffic conditions of multiple types of circuit and packet calls.","PeriodicalId":122977,"journal":{"name":"1st International Symposium onWireless Communication Systems, 2004.","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124323389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of node mobility, the set of service components that MANET clients have at one-hop distance changes often during service provisioning. That continuous change in locally accessible services significantly increases the complexity of designing and implementing effective MANET applications. The paper claims the need of dynamic middleware supports for MANET, not only to address routing/configuration issues, but also to automate the re-qualification of service bindings at provision time. It presents COMMAND, a flexible middleware solution, based on code mobility, for transparent service rebinding in MANET. COMMAND exploits dynamically elected proxies that act as intermediaries to decouple mobile clients and needed service components. In particular, the paper focuses on how COMMAND implements a lightweight MANET-specific solution for effective code distribution to deploy the needed proxy behavior only when and where required. Finally, the paper shows the implementation of a COMMAND-based forum distributed application, together with its related performance, to point out how the proposed middleware can help service development in MANET.","PeriodicalId":122977,"journal":{"name":"1st International Symposium onWireless Communication Systems, 2004.","volume":"24 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126843950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This array is suitable for wireless base station which apply smart antenna technique. The radiation patterns and the gain of the array over a single element are derived based on the thin-wire model. Numerical simulations using the thin-wire model and the method of moment have been conducted and compared for a half-wavelength dipole array. It is shown that the thin-wire model is only applicable for analyzing the radiation pattern in the azimuthal direction and is inaccurate for analyzing the elevation pattern. For uniform supply with progressive phase shift, the sinusoidal current distribution is shown to be a good approximation only when the wire diameter is one-hundredth of a wavelength or less and all the elements are in phase.","PeriodicalId":122977,"journal":{"name":"1st International Symposium onWireless Communication Systems, 2004.","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126947844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose two novel inter-period correlation processing (IPCP) receivers for UWB impulse radar. The conventional IPCP receiver uses the signal periodicity of signals, so it avoids estimation of unknown parameters determined by the targets and propagation. However, its accuracy of measurement is poor because the time resolution is restricted to a signal periodicity. We propose a parallel IPCP receiver to improve accuracy. When there are multiple targets, the conventional IPCP receiver needs multiple thresholds to detect. This results in complexity of the receiver. So, we propose a parallel differential IPCP receiver. We present the analysis of the outputs, and the performance of proposed receivers.","PeriodicalId":122977,"journal":{"name":"1st International Symposium onWireless Communication Systems, 2004.","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128656383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by the amount of Euclidean distance calculations in comparison with the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE). The bit-error rate (BER) characteristics of HC-MCM systems using proposed demodulation method are demonstrated by computer simulations in the presence of Gaussian noise. Performance of the HC-MCM using proposed demodulation method is also evaluated over a 2-path equal power Rayleigh fading channel. As a result, it is shown that the calculation complexity for 8 subcarriers is reduced to 0.6% in comparison with the MLE, and BER performance is not degraded even when the proposed system gives 64% increase of spectral efficiency in comparison with OFDM. In addition to those good properties, it is shown here that the proposed system is available over a wideband fading channel using a guard time interval.","PeriodicalId":122977,"journal":{"name":"1st International Symposium onWireless Communication Systems, 2004.","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121457048","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SVM is gaining popularity in the field of pattern classification due to its promising empirical performance, moderate computation complexity and its strong mathematical foundation. In the proposed scheme, the SVM-based equalizer is trained with the frequency domain received signal for the implicit frequency diversity effect. Simulations are conducted under time-varying multipath fading channel to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in the presence of multiuser interference (MUI) and inter-channel interference (ICI), two major impairments that severely degrade the performance of MC-CDMA systems employing conventional linear equalizers. Simulation results confirmed that the proposed scheme effectively mitigates MUI and ICI and outperforms conventional linear equalizers with perfect channel estimation.","PeriodicalId":122977,"journal":{"name":"1st International Symposium onWireless Communication Systems, 2004.","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129901227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The conventional OFDM diversity receiver employs post-DFT combining scheme, which combines signals from a several diversity branches after DFT decomposition. However, post-DFT combining diversity requires the same number of LNAs, IF amplifiers, AD converters, and FFT processors as of diversity branches. In order to solve this problem, the authors has proposed an antenna combining diversity scheme based on electromagnetic coupled array antenna. The proposed diversity scheme requires only one set of LNA, IFA, ADC and FFT processor and gives comparable performance with the maximal ratio combining diversity in case of two-branch diversity. However, the proposed diversity has limitation in the number of diversity branches. The performance of the proposed diversity is much worse than that of the post-DFT one when the diversity branches are more than two. In order to solve this problem, joint use of antenna combining and post-DFT combining is proposed. The proposed scheme is composed of two two-branch antenna combining diversity followed by the post-DFT combining diversity OFDM receiver. The proposed diversity receiver gives the same bit error rate performance as the conventional post-DFT combining four-branch diversity scheme while it only requires two sets of OFDM receiver components.","PeriodicalId":122977,"journal":{"name":"1st International Symposium onWireless Communication Systems, 2004.","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133992123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While this task is non-trivial in a single-hop environment (e.g. cellular 3G communications), it is even more challenging in a multihop scenario, i.e. in mashed 4G+ ad hoc networks. In such systems, services that demand for a low end-to-end latency, for instance voice telephony, are difficult to support. Starting with an in-depth analysis of the shortcomings of current system architectures, a novel architecture for a technically feasible system is outlined with emphasis on some of its major building blocks. The system we envision is able to provide quality-of-service guarantees based on a connection-oriented approach. This paper focuses on the switching and radio resource management components of such a system and their interaction with an appropriate routing protocol.","PeriodicalId":122977,"journal":{"name":"1st International Symposium onWireless Communication Systems, 2004.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131079804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
