This article aims to explore the benefits and potential risks associated with the use of fluoride compounds in dental care. The benefits encompass the prevention of tooth decay, reduced tooth sensitivity, suitability for all age groups, widespread accessibility, and cost-effectiveness. However, the article also addresses important considerations such as dental fluorosis, potential health concerns, fluoride allergies, water fluoridation debates, and the necessity of proper dosage. By examining these aspects, the article seeks to provide readers with a balanced understanding of the advantages and potential drawbacks of using fluoride compounds in dental care. The emphasis lies on informed decision-making and consulting dental professionals for tailored recommendations to ensure optimal oral health.","PeriodicalId":122699,"journal":{"name":"EPH - International Journal of Medical and Health Science","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124615346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With each seasonal transition, certain infectious diseases rise to the forefront, influenced by dynamic factors such as environmental conditions, shifts in human behavioral patterns, and varying biological rhythms. This article delves deep into the intricate relationship between these changes and the consequent surge in specific diseases, underlining the critical importance of timely and consistent vaccinations. Beyond the evident health implications, seasonal diseases exert tremendous socioeconomic pressures, stretching the capacities of healthcare facilities, causing productivity losses, and even impacting school attendance and business operations. Vaccinations, a marvel of modern medicine, emerge as a paramount defense mechanism. Through herd immunity, they not only protect the vaccinated individual but also reduce the overall transmission, especially when formulas adapt annually to the anticipated strains, as seen with influenza. Despite the undoubtable benefits, the global community grapples with challenges like public hesitancy towards vaccines, often fueled by misinformation, and logistical hurdles that affect distribution, especially in remote or underserved regions. Emphasizing the universal acceptance and enhanced accessibility of seasonal vaccines is pivotal for safeguarding global health. By ensuring widespread vaccination, societies can fortify their defense against the cyclical threat of seasonal diseases, promising a healthier future for all.","PeriodicalId":122699,"journal":{"name":"EPH - International Journal of Medical and Health Science","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115340498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All patients operated on for an orthopedic or trauma pathology were included in this study, patients having undergone percutaneous surgery were excluded and not included patients not operated on. \u0000Results: One hundred and twelve patients were collected. The average age of the patients was 32.9 years, there is a male predominance with a sex ratio of 2.5. It was carried out in Madagascar since 2012 at the Joseph Ravoahangy Andrianavalona University Hospital Center (CHU-JRA) and this study is the first study concerning the UKA carried out in the country. The objective of this study is to assess the medium-term results of PUCs in Madagascar. \u0000Methods: this was a six-year prospective study from 2012 to 2017 carried out in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology of the CHU-JRA Antananarivo including all patients who received a UKA. \u0000Results: twelve UKA were placed in eight patients. The mean age of the patients was 73.5 years. Mechanical pain in the internal compartment of the knee was the complaint of all patients, and the diagnosis of internal tibial osteoarthritis was confirmed after the x-ray. An improvement in the IKS (International Knee Society) score was found, with the average overall score which had gone from 132.5 preoperatively to 190 at the last follow-up, an IKS knee average score increased from 65 to 95 and an IKS score function increased from 67.5 to 95. After a mean follow-up of four years, the quality of life of the patients was excellent with the KOOS (Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score) which went from 26/100 before the operation to 98/100. Apart from a loosened prosthesis no other complication were found. \u0000Conclusion: UKA is an ideal treatment for isolated osteoarthritis of a tibiofemoral compartment. It offers better physiological function, a less invasive surgical approach, a faster recovery time. This first study in Madagascar concerning the PUC found excellent mediumterm results but long-term patient follow-up will be necessary.","PeriodicalId":122699,"journal":{"name":"EPH - International Journal of Medical and Health Science","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133850935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
