Many studies show that teeth eruptions might have a lot of symptoms, including bad mood, skin rashes on the cheeks and around the mouth, increasing saliva secretion, swollen gums, Sucking a finger and etc. These signs and symptoms are mild in some infants, and in others may be severe; it is difficult for parents to tolerate these conditions. The peak of the severity of teething-related symptoms is when the dental buds have grown sufficiently in the gum and try to exit from the swollen gingiva.","PeriodicalId":121604,"journal":{"name":"Modern Approaches in Dentistry and Oral Health Care","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121649001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is to be known that some other factors will influence these restorations as the emission and intensity of the light, adequate time of exposure and correct wavelength. Most of the three methods of light curing are used: High intensity in continuous light (High), increasing intensity (Soft-Start) and low (Low) intensity. The alteration between the above methods according to the time of exposure may cause different effects and should be chosen according to the need of the restorative procedure to be performed. Objective: To compare the photoactivation modes (High and Soft Start) emitted by two different devices (Dabi and Gnatus). All photo activators come from the Dental Clinic of Maternities Terezinha de Jesus Hospital. Method: An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied, considering the two device brands (Dabi and Gnatus) in the statistical model, so that the two photoactivation modes (High and Soft start) were evaluated in the same apparatus. All analyzes were performed in the R * program considering the level of significance of 5%. Results: It was observed that the Gnatus device presented higher mean irradiance (energy density), p <0.05, independent of the photoactivation mode. It is also observed that, for both devices, higher irradiance averages were observed with the high photoactivation mode (p <0.05). Conclusion: The two methods tested reached the minimum value indicated for polymerization of resinous materials, however, the Gnatus showed higher mean irradiance, and in both appliances the High method presented values statistically higher than the Soft Start method.","PeriodicalId":121604,"journal":{"name":"Modern Approaches in Dentistry and Oral Health Care","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115683498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prior to seeking dental care, the pain had been so severe together with other clinical manifestations that the patient sought medical attention for a heart attack. After elimination of the occurrence of a m.i., the pain was thought to be dental in origin and dental care was sought. No carious lesions or endodontic problems were found upon radiographic examination. However, careful oral examination revealed the presence of a crack transcending tooth #31. Following tooth extraction and immediate implant placement, no further pain was experienced by the patient. Figure 3: Intra-oral photograph of the affected tooth. Figure 4: Crack on the distal aspect of tooth #2. Treatment Regimen In consultation with the patient, it was decided that the affected tooth could not be salvaged, and it was extracted under local anesthesia. Because the extraction site was infection-free, the periodontal condition was satisfactory, and the bone was solid and well-vascularized, an immediate implant was placed, (Figure 5). Figure 5: Immediate implant placed following extraction. Prognosis After extraction of tooth #31 and resolution of local anesthesia, the pain was immediately eliminated. Satisfactory healing and osseo-integration are projected for the affected area. Conclusion Cracks in teeth weaken them and pain from cracked teeth can be felt in areas remoted from the affected tooth. What was unusual in the present case is the pain was experienced on the other side of the mouth from the affected tooth and intensified to the point that the patient suspected a myocardial infarction. Although tooth crack-induced pain often can be experienced in areas remote from the affected tooth, the existence of pain, so severe that it mimicked a heart attack, and occurring on the other side of the mouth was unusual. This particular case reinforces the need for clinicians to carefully examine all facets of the dentition of patients presenting with oral pain. Cracks in enamel do occur and, as in the present case, may originate from a defective restoration. However, crack progression to the tooth apex and sudden, sharp onset of pain is unusual. Even more unexpected is that the pain was experienced on the opposite jaw to the affected tooth. References 1.
