Diabetes is the risk factor for osmotic fragility. Objective: The aim of the present study is to describe erythrocyte osmotic fragility changes in type II diabetes. The osmotic fragility test is a measure of the resistance of erythrocytes to hemolysis by osmotic stress. Material and method: In this study 50 diabetic type 2 patients were informed about the study and parameters selected for the study are : median corpuscular fragility (MCF), hemoglobin(HB) , hemoglobin A1c(HA1c) , Fasting blood glucose (FBG) . Result: The analyzed results showed: Patients with type 2 diabetes have a significantly higher erythrocyte mechanical fragility. And that fasting blood glucose and anemia are also strongest correlate of increased mechanical fragility of erythrocytes. Conclusion: The result of FBG, HBA1c and OFT were significantly increased in diabetic’s type 2 patient (p value < 0.05), furthermore hemoglobin (HB) estimation was significantly decreased in diabetic’s type 2 patient (p value <0.05). The correlation between OFT and duration of type 2 DM were positive significant correlation (p value < 0.05).","PeriodicalId":121507,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Medical Sciences","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131679424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Snyman","doi":"10.47363/pms/2021(5)146","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.47363/pms/2021(5)146","url":null,"abstract":"Objective: Radiotherapy of cancers are usually accompanied by some form of radiation induced skin toxicity (radiation dermatitis) in most patients receiving this type of treatment. It can vary from very mild disease to extensive and severe dermatitis limiting further treatment. It is therefore obvious that preventative care will optimise the outcome of radiation of the tumour while the skin’s integrity is preserved leading to a better clinical outcome overall. Methods: In Vitro: In the study a newly developed silicone topical device (RT-Gel Sun Pharma South Africa), is compared to a similar product StrataXRT as well as to a negative control group of no gel. Gels were tested to observe the effect on the radiation dose provided. All gels were applied as a thin layer to the surface of the bolus within the Farmer Chamber. In Vivo: In this multicentre study a newly developed silicone topical device (RT-Gel® Sun Pharma South Africa), applied as a thin layer gel, is compared to a similar product StrataXRT as well as to standard of care in practice. The aim was to compare patients’ preferences of treatment modalities as well as establishing differences in clinical outcomes focussing on grades of skin toxicity after radiation therapy. Patients were recruited at radiation oncology sites after being prescribed radiation dosages with curative intent for mostly breast and head and neck cancers. Results: In Vitro: The uncertainties pertaining to the theoretical dose changes and radiation measurements indicates clearly the differences caused by the application of a silicone-based gel during radiotherapy is small enough to be regarded as negligible. In Vivo: The primary outcomes demonstrate the patient’s satisfaction with RT-Gel® i.e. a significant preference for RT-Gel compared to both StrataXRT® (p< 0.02) and standard of care (p< 0.001). The clinicians’ toxicity scores also favoured RT-Gel® over StrataXRT (p< 0.04 ANOVA). Conclusion: It can thus be concluded that preventative treatment with RT-Gel® is at least as effective if not better than competitors, well tolerated and preferred by patients. . It furthermore indicates that dose is not affected by gel and that washing of treated area before next treatment is not required to “prevent build-up of gel”.","PeriodicalId":121507,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Medical Sciences","volume":"2005 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125813867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There can be a defect in insulin secretion, or its action (insulin resistance) or both. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a worldwide health problem with rising prevalence, which seems due to change in life style, increasing obesity rates and aging of the population. Osteopenia and bone fragility is one of the problems faced by many diabetics without the nature of cause of either residual insulin secretion or high insulin requirement. Studies also show that patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) have an increased risk of hip and vertebral fracture, thus hinting the link between the two distinct pathologies. Aim of this study is to find out the association between Vitamin D levels with glycemic Control and to measure the vitamin Levels in Diabetes Patients. Conclusion: There is Negative association between Vitamin D and glycemic control. Materials & Methods: This Cross sectional study was conducted in the Hail region, KSA, during the period of 1st January 2018 to 21st March 2019. Total 210 study patients aged 18– 60 years; their Vitamin D levels were estimated and their socio-demographics data were collected regarding nationality, femininity, oldness, marital status, educational level, and occupation and analyze by SPSS 17. Result: Only 0.5 percent of the total sample was Vitamin D sufficient, while 37.1 percent was insufficient. Majority i.e. 62.4 % had deficiency of vitamin D. It can be observed that majority of patients i.e. 53.8 % had diabetes for 5-10 years. Only 9 patients out of a total of 210 had diabetes for more than 15 years. Conclusion: levels are Vitamin D levels in Diabetic patients are found to be low in Diabetic patients. Negative association is present between HbA1c levels and derangements in serum Vitamin D.","PeriodicalId":121507,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Medical Sciences","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115922175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, it was found that nearly all reported cases were found in patients taking a combination of antidepressants and other agents [1]1 Serotonin syndrome is a disease that is easily missed as there are no defining features in most cases. Symptoms such as confusion and tremors have a gamut of potential causes. Laboratory tests are non-diagnostic with possible changes including an increase in white blood count, creatinine phosphokinase, and decrease in bicarbonate levels. Here we present a case of Serotonin syndrome that was caused by Propofol use in which led to the patient presenting with respiratory arrest. Seizures are caused by a variety of etiopathophysiological events that result in neurobiological changes in the central nervous system's reticulothalamocortical circuitry zones. This allows for absence seizure episodes to occur. A 24-year-old adult patient with diminished consciousness presented to the hospital with an absence seizure. The patient's brain magnetic resonance imaging scan revealed a small focal flair hypertensive area near the cavernous sinus in the right parasellar region, as well as moderate flair hypersensitivity in the left cavernous sinuses, right maxillary, and ethmoid sinusitis. Regular waves with electrode objects were seen on the electroencephalogram of the brain. The patient was diagnosed with absence seizures and was given epival 500 mg twice daily to treat them. The patient was able to recover from his seizure and was given treatment before being released. Once every eight week, he was summoned for a checkup.","PeriodicalId":121507,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Medical Sciences","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117321068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our study aims to assess the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic on cancer outpatients within the oncology and haematology university hospital in Marrakech, in order to establish the best cancer care management strategies. Materials and Methods: Cancer patients, who consulted during the month of April Since the start of national lockdown in Morocco following the COVID 19 pandemic, were invited to respond a questionnaire aimed at assessing the impact of this pandemic on their consultations. The characteristics of the consultants, their infectious status, the ease of access to the hospital, the type of consultation, with or without symptoms, the difficulties encountered, as well as the progress after deconfinement are the main items included in the questionnaire. Results: 73 consultations were carried out in the oncological emergency room during the determined period with 76.71% of the responses, against 247 in April 2019. 57.14% consulted following the presence of symptoms to which the access was easy for 59.37% of 'between them and 46.87% could not go to the emergency room because of lockdown. 42.85% had a follow-up appointment, while 20.83% of these appointments were changed, and 29.16% of these patients have already missed it due to lack of transport and means. An increase in the number of consultants, advanced stages and positive COVID cases was marked after deconfinement. Conclusion: During the COVID-19 pandemic, most consultations at the Marrakech oncology hospital were affected by the state of sanitary lockdown, hence the need for a mutual effort to deal with the fallout from this crisis.","PeriodicalId":121507,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Medical Sciences","volume":"296 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124702306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
