Abdullah Sani","doi":"10.11113/umran2023.10n2.602","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.11113/umran2023.10n2.602","url":null,"abstract":"Synthetic biology, or SynBio, is a fast-growing technology, that combines biology, chemistry, computer science, and engineering, producing synthetically modified organisms (SMOs), in which organisms for which a large part or the entire genome has been designed using computer-aided design tool and chemically synthesized. Concern arises when (deoxyribonucleic acid) DNA constructs are made up of impure (najs) substances in Shariah as raw material, like transfer of engineered pig cells with modified genomes. One of alternative verification methods of Shariah law, namely al-Intiqal (the transition), can assist Muslim jurists in determining legal rulings on particular Halal contemporary issues, as there is no explicit information about genetic modified technology in the Qur’an or Hadith. This study aims to determine the theory of al-Intiqal (the transition) from Shariah and science approaches and apply the structure and division of al-Intiqal (the transition) on SMOs productions, like synthetic spider silk and humanized pig organ. Qualitative methods were applied including library research, fiqh adaptation (al-takyif al-fiqhi), and semi structured in-depth interview. Study shows that two divisions of al-Intiqal (the transition) can be applied within SMOs productions, which are al-Intiqal al-sahih (the accepted transition) and al-Intiqal al-fasid (the damaged transition). This is because nowadays, there are many economic activities that are capable of generating higher profit returns and many of them are seen probably higher than those of the traditional zakatable sources. This paper attempts to study the conditions and foundations of zakatability of wealth classically and contemporarily which are made subject to zakat based on the Islamic legal theories and scholars’ perspectives. Then, it explores both classical and contemporary zakatable wealth. To fulfill the objectives, this study will use a qualitative approach with data collection methods documentation. It involves library research to get information from various sources like books, journals, papers work and others and then analyzing them by using inductive and deductive (istiqrai’i) approach. The study found that there are several conditions made by the classical and contemporary jurists on wealth before it is made to be subject to zakat. They have also come out with various approaches like analogy (qiyas), growth (nama’), richness (ghina’) and historical success factor in identifying the basis (dawabit) of zakatable wealth. The findings of this research show that based on ijtihad and fiqhi resolutions of the jurists, zakat accommodates contemporary changes in the concept of wealth and gives opportunity in exploring the expansion of the other zakatable wealth resources in the form of modern assets. For that purpose, Allah SWT bestows various sources of food for human beings such as fruits, grains, vegetables, plants, livestock and ocean products. Even so, this food source should not be used excessively or isrāf because it violates the guidelines of the Qur'an and the sunnah of the Prophet SAW. However, what is happening in the society today is the opposite. There is an increase in the statistics of patients with genetic diseases due to isrāf attitude in food intake. This is in stark contrast to the teachings of Islam which calls for moderation, especially in food consumption as well as prohibition of excessive wastegee. This article aims to study and analyze the concept of isrāf in food intake according to the perspective of the Qur'an by using a thematic tafsir approach. This study employ qualitative method through content analysis of the text of the Qur'an and books of tafsir on the concept of isrāf in food intake. The results of the study show that isrāf in food intake refers to seven key themes that refer to certain aspects of instruction and prohibition in food intake. In conclusion, this article helps to understand the concept of isrāf in food intake according to the nature that has been set by Allah SWT. It is also seen to be able to educate the community in reducing health problems caused by the practice of isrāf, as well as able to change a person's genetics for the better from one generation to the next. As a result of the audit assessment, a review of the literature analysis will be conducted to see the extent of past studies that have discussed the management of immovable estates on baitulmal in the state of Johor. This article aims to examine past studies that touched on problems and solutions for the management of immovable inheritance under the Baitulmal institution of the State of Johor. The study used a qualitative method in the form of content analysis. Analysis of such content is done descriptively. The findings found that there were eleven studies on immovable property in the Johor State Islamic Religious Council. Seven studies on immovable property in the waqf section. Meanwhile, two studies on immovable property in the zakat section. As for the study of immovable property in the treasury division there was only one by Nur Diyana Md Sidek in 2010. The study identified problems such as staff shortages, problems with the community's understanding of the baitulmal's rights to the estate, land surface problems, problems with the attitude of heirs and problems in arrears of inheritance payments. The study also identified several proposed solutions that have been submitted, namely appointing new staff, intensifying information sessions, taking legal action against troubled heirs and formulating development strategically towards immovable assets under the treasury. To date, the question regarding the JDP’s identity has been widely debated. The JDP has frequently been labelled as an Islamist party due to its historical background, while other perspectives perceive the JDP as a non-Islamist party. Contradiction among scholars regarding the identity of the party has resulted in several debates in the existing literature. Therefore, this study attempts to review previous studies related to the discussion on the JDP’s identity. Methodologically, Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) was adopted to review related studies by utilizing two journal databases, namely the Web of Science and Scopus, with support by other databases. The searching process retrieved 24 sources that can be analyzed systematically. As a result of the thematic analysis, three main themes have been developed that represent arguments on the JDP’s identity, namely the JDP as an Islamist party, the JDP as a non-Islamist party, and the JDP as a party that undergoes a shift in identity. The situation of society during the pandemic can be seen through readings of Arabic literature works which play very important roles in getting the picture of Middle East society. The purpose of this study is to identify preliminary review related to pandemics in the Middle East which are recorded in Arabic literary works. This study uses qualitative method by analyzing the content of corpora based on thematic method. Based on this preliminary review, several new themes have been developed including the theme of infectious diseases in the Middle East such as cholera and black death. Aspects discussed including the location of the pandemic, the community's situation against the pandemic, the impact, and how to deal with the pandemic. As a result of this literature review, it is found that in discussion about the pandemic, Arabic literary works give special emphasis on the sociology of society, health, and ecosystem of a country. Although there are extensive efforts from various parties to overcome it, but moral degradation among youths is increasing. Factors in the occurrence of this problem are due to their lack of appreciation of Islamic education either in the form of faith, worship and moral. These three elements of faith, worship and moral embedded in the will of Luqman al-Hakim (LH) to his son portraying the importance of education towards the nation. This study focuses on moral element expressed by LH as a reflection of the dimension of moral development in the contemporary era. However, the will seems abstract, vague and needs to be clarified in line with contemporary needs from a semiotic point of view. This is because the semiotics of the Qur’an is associated as one of the solutions to represent the new meaning of the LH will. This study analyses the symbols of human development through the will of LH using Peirce theory. This qualitative study uses the method of textual content analysis of LH's will in surah Luqman as the corpus of this study. The data were analysed by referring to three critical elements namely symbol, object and meaning. Takaful is an essential approach which provides confidence and ethical guidlines in protecting assets. Takaful, is considering Shari’ah principles, also applies the same principles of insurance for its operation even though insurance consists of some prohibited elements in Islam. The objectives of this study are to analyse the governing principles of insurance and takaful and explain how Islam focuses on these principles and ethical aspects in takaful operation from Shariah perspective. The study is designed as documentary research which provides conceptual and theoretical knowledge, and it uses secondary sources such as journal articles, books, reports, as well as main sources of Islamic law. Findings of the study are that principles that are applied in takaful comply with shariah. Similarly, Shari’ah usually does not prohibit general guidelines which are created even in conventional institutions; however, it strictly prohibits the elements which are nocuous to the community. The advantage of takaful is making confidence and truth under religion, which is to be applied in transactions, social life to be free from fear, privation, and poverty. It demonstrates how religion influences both individual and society views and behaviors. Religiosity has two dimensions: intrapersonal and interpersonal. It is one of the most influential variables in people's lives. This study aims to identify the level of intrapersonal and interpersonal religious commitment among respondents and the relationship between their religious commitment and choosing a shariah compliance hospital. This quantitative research involved 30 samples from OUM academic staff. The Religious Commitment Inventory (RCI-10) developed by Worthington et al. (2003) was used to assess this religiosity. A 5-point Likert scale was used to assess each construct's items. According to the findings of this study, the respondents have a high level of intrapersonal and interpersonal religious commitment, and there is a strong relationship between intrapersonal and interpersonal religious commitment.
