Some of those effects have serious consequences. Rain-induced flooding is one of the direct effects of climate change and its impact on the environment is usually devastating and worrisome. Floods are one of the most commonly occurring disasters and have caused significant damage to life, including agriculture and economy. They are usually caused in areas where there is excessive downpour and poor drainage systems. The study uses Feedforward Multilayer Neural Network to perform short-term prediction of the amount of rainfall flood for the Niger Delta sub region of Nigeria given previous rainfall data for a specified period of time. The data for training and testing of the Neural Network was sourced from Weather Underground official web site https://www.wunderground.com. An iterative Methodology was used and implemented in MATLAB. We adopted multi-layer Feedforward Neural Networks. The study accurately predicts the rain-induced flood for the Niger Delta sub region of Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":12029,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Engineering Research and Science","volume":"252 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75822270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cost of this system increases with the rise in energy consumption which poses a challenge as well as air distribution in large auditoria. Analysis of results can also be daunting when designing this system. The study focuses on designing an air conditioning system in a large auditorium, applying Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and visualizing the result in a Virtual Reality (VR) environment. The 3-dimensional model of the 520-capacity Technology Lecture Theatre, University of Ibadan, Nigeria was drawn with Autodesk Revit and modified into the geometry applicable for Displacement Ventilation (DV) and Mixed Ventilation (MV) for ease of numerical analysis with ANSYS Fluent. The building model and simulation results were then imported into Unity software for visualization in VR. The DV achieved better thermal comfort and air distribution in the computer simulation. At a supply temperature of 292.15 K, the DV system was able to keep the auditorium temperature at about 296.50 K, while the MV system at a supply temperature of 289.15 K was only able to maintain the temperature at 295.40 K. The temperature profile showed that the lower region where the students were seated was colder in DV compared to MV by at least 3 K. The results were also observed from a convenient position in VR. This study, with the aid of CFD and VR, was able to establish that displacement ventilation design has better air flow, lower energy consumption and is efficient for an air conditioning system in a large auditorium.","PeriodicalId":12029,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Engineering Research and Science","volume":"40 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78116774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, water drops with volume in the range of 0.1–100 micro-liters are placed, by using micro-pipettes, on bare and coated acrylic plates, to gain reference data concerning the contact angle. Then, drops of water-based ferrofluid, with the volume ranging from 1 to 10 micro-liters, are set on bare acrylic plates, which are placed into the uniform magnetic field created, in normal direction to the plate, by using permanent magnets. Since the ferrofluid drops are elongated along the magnetic field, the contact angle increases at augmentation of the magnetic flux. Besides, when a critical magnetic flux is exceeded, ferrofluid drop loose contact with the plate and jumps towards the magnet. A heuristic equation to predict the fluctuation of the liquid surface tension versus the drop volume, and also versus the ratio of the applied magnetic field energy to the kinetic energy of the magnetic particles dispersed into the water-based ferrofluid, is suggested.","PeriodicalId":12029,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Engineering Research and Science","volume":"132 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75685255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method adopted toachieve this includes analysis of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of the existing system. Subsequently, modifications were made on the system. Mechanical and electrical components were selected to control dispensation of lubricant whilst electronic components were selected to interact via communicating electrical signal to electrical components. Grease manifold block and current regulating solenoid valve were selected to work with a grease control module that communicates with a motion logic control module through a control area network connected to excavator joystick and pedal. Lubricant savings of 60.80 cm3/min (0.0608 litres/min) which amounts to annual savings of $ 62,102.09 per annum, can be made with the proposed modification in a typical mining excavator.","PeriodicalId":12029,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Engineering Research and Science","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87382236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The incidence of HNC is on the increase owing to several factors. There is often late presentation that can result in loss of lives (mortality) especially in Africa due to paucity of specialists. These challenges prompted the development of a stacked ensemble model for diagnosis of HNC to facilitate prompt referral. The data were collected which consists of 1473 instances with 18 features. Information Gain was used for selecting important features and three supervised learning algorithms were deployed for the base learners: Decision Tree (C4.5), K-Nearest Neighbors and Naïve Bayes. The predictions of the base learners were combined and passed to meta learners: Logistic Model Tree (LMT). The result showed that Information Gain method with stacked LMTwas 95.11%. It was deduced that both Information Gain with stacked MLR produced higher accuracy that the base learners’ results. Hence, this stacked model can be used for diagnosis of HNC in healthcare systems.","PeriodicalId":12029,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Engineering Research and Science","volume":"125 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83231838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The layers obtained by a diffusion process, on brass (alloy C36000) and bronze specimens (alloy SAE 62), were characterized using a scanning electron microscope, EDAX microanalysis, Vickers microhardness, X-Ray diffraction analysis, and sliding wear test. The chemical analysis showed a layer composition of 62 % Zn and 38 % Cu, on average. The microhardness for thermochemical treated brass was 496HV and 598HV for bronze; thus, a microhardness increase for brass is 468% and 532% for bronze. It was made an X-Ray diffraction analysis, confirming the results obtained with the chemical analysis and crystalline structure for coating. It showed the presence of Cu64Zn36 and Cu5Zn8 phases. The wear tests demonstrated that treated specimens show better wear resistance than non-protected specimens.","PeriodicalId":12029,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Engineering Research and Science","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74221572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is assumed that the imperfect items identified by Screening are divided into either scrap or reworkable items. The reworkable items are kept in store until the next items are received. Afterward, the items are returned to the supplier to be reworked. Also, a discount on the purchasing cost is employed as an offer of cooperation from a supplier to a buyer to compensate for all additional holding costs incurred to the buyer. The rework process is error-free. An overlapping order scheme is employed so that the vendor is allowed to use the previous shipment to meet the demand by the inspection period. In the fuzzy model, the graded mean integration method is taken to defuzzify the model and determine its approximation of a profit function and optimal policy. In doing so, numerical examples are rendered to represent the model behavior, and, eventually, the sensitivity analysis is presented.","PeriodicalId":12029,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Engineering Research and Science","volume":"69 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82344323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Number of hidden layers, number of nodes in layers, activation functions, and other parameters of neural networks must suit the given data set and the prevailing problem. Massive learning datasets prompt a researcher to exploit probability methods in an attempt to find optimal structure of a neural network. Classic Bayesian estimation of network hyperparameters assumes distribution of specific random parameters to be Gaussian. Multivariate Normality Analysis methods are widespread in contemporary applied mathematics. In this article, the normality of probability distribution of vectors on perceptron layers was examined by the Multivariate Normality Test. Ten datasets from University of California, Irvine were selected for the computing experiment. The result of our hypothesis on Gaussian distribution is negative, ensuring that none of the set of vectors passed the criteria of normality.","PeriodicalId":12029,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Engineering Research and Science","volume":"35 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72581806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
