The article considers production of titanium dioxide nanotubes based on ilmenite-leucoxene ores and products of their processing. Titanium dioxide nanotubes were synthesized by hydrothermal treatment in an alkaline solution from a gravity concentrate of ilmenite-leucoxene ore from the Pizhemskoe deposit. In the samples we found phases of quartz and sodium titanate NaxH2–xTi3O7. Nanostructuring results in increasing specific surface area and decreasing band gap. We evaluated effectiveness of synthesized samples in the photocatalytic decomposition of organic pollutants in aqueous solutions. We showed that they were not inferior to commercial analogues by their effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":11915,"journal":{"name":"Epitoanyag - Journal of Silicate Based and Composite Materials","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84553773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main object of this study is to investigate the sound transmission loss (STL) of natural Luffa fibers (LF) due to their availability and sustainability where they would be a good choice instead of synthetic materials that have some health issues. The study has been done experimentally. The work has included a collection of LF from local gardens in Iraq, manufacturing of the specimens and measuring the STL using an impedance tube for selected samples: 20 mm of 970 kg/m3, 30 mm of 880 kg/m3 as well as 30 mm of 600 kg/m3. The effect of both thickness and density of the samples on the values of STL were studied. The results show that the increase of the thickness by adding 10 mm layer improved the STL value by 15-20 %. Also, the increasing of the density enhanced the sound insulation, where the STL value at 880 kg/m3 has improved by 3040 % comparing to 600 kg/m3 for the same thickness (30 mm).","PeriodicalId":11915,"journal":{"name":"Epitoanyag - Journal of Silicate Based and Composite Materials","volume":"24 1","pages":"106-109"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83307754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The critical state study was important to determine at what level of earth improvement with the biomass material can be considered safe in terms of shrinkage behavior of treated soft soil utilized in pavement construction. Rice Husk (RH) is an agricultural waste discharged during rice production and is disposed on landfills. It causes land pollution in places like Abakaliki and Ebonyi State, Nigeria as whole where rice farming is the predominant occupation. Ground and soil improvement with the use of rice husk ash has contributed in the management of solid waste in the developing countries where rice production is a common occupation with its attendant solid waste generation. However, the use of biomass-based binders like RHA has reduced the rate at which oxides of carbon are released into the atmosphere, which contribute to greenhouse emission effects. This exercise is an environmentally conscious procedure that keeps the environment safe from the hazards of carbon and its oxides. the preliminary investigation on the test soil showed that it is classified as an A-7-6 soil group according to AASHTO classification. The index properties showed that the soil was highly plastic with high clay content. The RHA was utilized at the rate of 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% by weight of treated solid to improve the soil volumetric shrinkage induced desiccation at molding moisture conditions of 2% dry, 0%, 2% wet, and 4% wet of optimum moisture. This was necessary to establish the behavior of hydraulically bound foundation materials subjected to dry and wet conditions during the rise and fall of water tables. Results of the laboratory investigation have shown that at 2% dry of optimum moisture, the volumetric shrinkage (VS) behavior performed best and reduced below the critical line of 4% at 8% by weight addition of RHA and maintained that consistent reduction at 10% addition of RHA. Generally, the critical point was achieved at 8% by weight addition of RHA at all the molding moisture conditions. This is an indication that at molding moisture conditions between -2% to 4%, 8% by weight addition of the admixture, RHA can be utilized as an environmentally conscious construction material to improve the VS of soils for use as hydraulically bound materials in pavement foundation construction.","PeriodicalId":11915,"journal":{"name":"Epitoanyag - Journal of Silicate Based and Composite Materials","volume":"16 1","pages":"40-47"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74260003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this analysis the Concrete Damaged Plasticity (CDP) constitutive laws are utilzed to simulate the non-linearities in the behavior of brick and mortar. These models are used for the analysis of diagonal compression tests on masonry panels. The experimental results are used to validate the modelling approach presented here. The results showed that the application of the CFRP composite on unreinforced masonry (URM) has a great influence on strength, post-peak behavior, as well as changing failure modes and ductility. On the other hand, the adopted detailed micro-modelling approach (DMM) gives a good interface for predict the shear response on masonry walls.","PeriodicalId":11915,"journal":{"name":"Epitoanyag - Journal of Silicate Based and Composite Materials","volume":"237 1","pages":"2-11"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77352518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They obtained the values of the quality factor and the amplitude of electro-elastic vibrations of piezoelectric quartz particles with an average size of 75 microns. To observe the high-frequency response, the generator excited quartz powders with a pulsed electric field with a frequency of 16.5 MHz. The characteristics and quality factor of electro-elastic vibrations of powder particles of the following types of quartz were determined: artificial, smoky, citrine, amethyst, re-crystallized, veined granular, veined poleshaped. The content of impurities in the minerals of quartz is given. The presence of aluminum ions Al3+ in quartz minerals also causes a strong increase in the quality factor of electro-elastic vibrations of piezoelectric particles, which may also be associated which may be associated with a change in the surface charge of quartz particles. Silica sand (SiO2) is an industrial waste that contributes to the strength of the aluminium matrix. Therefore, an attempt is made to use 10 wt. % of silicon dioxide as hardening of particles to obtain composite materials with an aluminium matrix. A stir casting method was used to produce the aluminium matrix. The mechanical and optical microstructural properties of the newly developed Al /SiO2 composites were studied. Al / SiO2 composites were processed using wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) to optimize processing parameters such as pulse-on time (μs), pulse-off time (μs) and current (A) to improve material removal rate (MRR).
