To carry out the study, around 150,000 images from Landsat satellites were analyzed , with a resolution of 30 meters, available over a period of 35 years. Annual information was collected on twenty-five land use and land cover classes in the biome. Botanically, it is considered the only uniquely Brazilian biome. It was the agronomist and ecologist from Pernambuco João Vasconcelos Sobrinho (1908-1989) who first proved that the biological heritage of the Caatinga, in addition to being very rich, is unique on the planet . In his honor, the date of April 28 is dedicated to the National Day of the Caatinga, since 2003.
