Abstract

For 50 years, Landsat satellites have been monitoring changes on the Earth's surface. The first was launched by the United States in July 1972. By gathering data from the Landsat program and other satellites , researchers can reconstruct historical patterns of landscape change and predict trends. With Landsat data, it is possible to monitor forest cover, drought situations , forest fire damage and other types of land use change.
