The introduced LHCPW consists of two CPW in two planes. They are mutually coupled by two parallel plate capacitive elements which function as series capacitance elements. Also, the grounded inductive elements are implemented by shorted CPW lines. The proposed LHCPW was simulated using a full-wave Finite Element Method (FEM) solver. Based on the general circuit model of the LH structures, an equivalent circuit of the unit cell of the proposed structure was derived by fitting its scattering parameters to those calculated by the solver. Traditionally, this impact has not been accurately modeled and, in many cases, it is completely ignored. This results in an inaccurate prediction of the antenna performance, especially the radiation efficiency, and can lead to poor antenna design. In this article, the modeling of the hand in greater detail is considered. Although many CAD tools have the capability to model the hand geometry in fine detail with multiple materials, there are associated issues dealing with the model complexity and constructing hand phantoms for measurements. Therefore, a balance needs to be reached between the details in the model geometry and materials and the needs of the simulation and measurement tools. In this paper, a homogeneous hand model is presented. The model represents the geometry of the hand in good detail and it can be adapted to form various hand grips. The effect of the material properties of this hand model on the radiation efficiency of a few typical antennas in mobile handsets is studied. These studies illustrate than an effective material property for a homogeneous hand model can be used for a reasonable accuracy in the radiation efficiency of the antennas. The constructed prototype integrates the antenna and the shielding metal case, which provides a coupling-free space for the RF components, battery and other associated elements in the mobile phone. The integrated antenna shows no protruded portions and is very promising to be concealed within the casing of the mobile phone. Furthermore, the antenna occupies no space on the bottom ground or system ground plane. To do so, the Green's function for small-size antenna located in small-size metamaterial sphere is approximated, then by applying the method of moment with Galerkin's procedure the probe current and input impedance as a function of sphere radius, antenna length, and material properties are derived. The results clearly demonstrate that in most of the designs considering the first dominant mode is not sufficient and one needs to consider higher order terms in Green's function expansion to provide an accurate analysis for antenna performance. Magnetic resonances in two bands are obtained by incorporating two resonators of different dimensions into one period of an infinitely periodic design. Negative permittivities are provided by thin silver films via the naturally available negative dielectric function at near-IR wavelengths. The desired bands of the NIM behavior can be designed by proper combinations of the magnetic resonator dimensions and the silver film thicknesses. A two-dimensional example with two negative-index bands in the near-IR spectrum was demonstrated. The two-dimensional design was then extended to a three-dimensional doubly-periodic dual-band metamaterial design.
