Two recent advances in the capabilities of Cyclic MUSIC are described. The first enables Cyclic MUSIC to simultaneously estimate the directions of arrival of signals having different cycle frequencies instead of having to sequentially process each separate frequency in a list of cycle frequencies (either known a priori or measured). The second advance reduces the sensitivity of Cyclic MUSIC to error in the knowledge of the cycle frequency of interest by estimating the frequency of a quadratically-regenerated sine wave and then using that estimate as the cycle frequency parameter in the computation of the cyclic autocorrelation matrix, which is then processed to estimate the directions of arrival.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":117661,"journal":{"name":"Fifth ASSP Workshop on Spectrum Estimation and Modeling","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115415254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This separation cannot be successful using only the spectral matrix. But it can be done using higher order statistics and in particular the fourth order cumulant of the signals. The general linear case can be solved in frequency domain. In this domain the authors introduce the notion of circular complex variables, and give the maximum likelihood estimator of the source model in the complex data case.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":117661,"journal":{"name":"Fifth ASSP Workshop on Spectrum Estimation and Modeling","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125362376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These processes are assumed to have a continuous spectrum that varies significantly on a frequency scale commensurate with the Rayleigh resolution but the transfer function between the processes does not vary as rapidly. For such calculations the author proposes a variant of the multiple-taper method were the vectors of eigencoefficients are augmented to include derivative terms and the coherences computed as canonical correlations between the blocks. A short simulation study between correlated processes with moderately severe delay within the analysis band shows that the variance of the smoothed canonical correlation estimate is about 20% of the standard multiple window estimate.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":117661,"journal":{"name":"Fifth ASSP Workshop on Spectrum Estimation and Modeling","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115780793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The bispectrum is viewed along a single radial slice whose defining frequencies are related by a simple ratio. This procedure of taking projections along lines orthogonal to projection axes corresponding to those slices decouples the sinusoids. The projected cumulants contain one-dimensional sinusoids. Projections comprise frequency decoupling. Separating the projected cumulants into symmetric and skew-symmetric cumulants, phase decoupling is achieved. Sinusoidal frequency estimation can be derived from a purely autoregressive (AR) modeling of the skew-symmetric and symmetric cumulants. The predictor polynomials derived from this scheme combine both causal and non-causal components.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":117661,"journal":{"name":"Fifth ASSP Workshop on Spectrum Estimation and Modeling","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133994621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach, referred to here as the copy/DF approach, uses the signal copy vectors provided by a blind or nonblind signal extraction algorithm to construct a spatial spectrum for each signal captured by an antenna array, where each spectrum has a global maximum in the direction of the signal captured by that copy vector. The approach can be used with any signal extraction algorithm, and is particularly effective in environments containing strong cochannel interference. Two classes of techniques are presented: ARMA-like techniques, which form spatial spectra with zeroes in the directions of the received interferers and poles in the directions of the copied signals; and ML-like techniques, which approximate the nonblind maximum-likelihood estimate of the direction-of-arrival of the copied emitter waveforms.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":117661,"journal":{"name":"Fifth ASSP Workshop on Spectrum Estimation and Modeling","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127521913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new beamformer design approach is presented for this problem, and is assessed for planar emitter scenarios. A metric is introduced which measures the quality of the sample beamspace MUSIC null spectrum. The approach is to construct the beamforming matrix to maximize the metric for a selected cluster. The resultant (directed) beamformer is specific to that cluster. Examples show that use of beamspace MUSIC with the identified beamformers can produce lower resolution thresholds, biases and variances than a variety of other eigenvector approaches.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":117661,"journal":{"name":"Fifth ASSP Workshop on Spectrum Estimation and Modeling","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126529631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
