Shibahara","doi":"10.1109/IAS.1995.530285","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/IAS.1995.530285","url":null,"abstract":"The goal of this research is to realize a complete sensorless system which can operate in the whole speed range, from standstill to rated speed, using the \"half-wave rectified brushless synchronous motor\" we proposed as a novel servo motor. An EMF with bias frequency is induced in the rotor winding of this motor by the MMF which rotates at synchronous speed and pulsates at bias frequency. The field poles are excited by the field current obtained by rectifying this EMF with a diode inserted into the field winding. This motor has a simple and robust brushless structure and is maintenance free. This motor also provides torque control operation over the speed range from zero to the rated speed. If there is any displacement between the axis of rotating MMF and the axis of the rotor, the impedance of the field circuit varies. Therefore, the rotor position can be detected only by measuring bias frequency components of armature voltage. This method provides us with the whole sensorless control (position and speed sensorless) over the speed range from zero to the rated speed.","PeriodicalId":117576,"journal":{"name":"IAS '95. Physically intuitive descriptions complimented with analyses and simulations are used to illustrate the dynamics of IM IFO. Specifically, the process of rotor flux build-up from zero under various conditions is investigated. Additionally, how IM IFO systems react to and recover from the effects of sensor errors and estimated machine parameter errors is investigated and illustrated. Complex vectors and their relationship to the controller and machine reference frames are used extensively for both mathematical rigor and intuitive illustrations. In particular, the relative orientation between the controller and actual machine reference frames is exploited for the purposes of tutorial exposition. Computer simulations and known steady state results are used to substantiate and verify the results. It is the goal of this paper to present physically insightful illustrations and explanations, tutorial in nature, of the dynamics associated with IM IFO.","PeriodicalId":117576,"journal":{"name":"IAS '95. The effect of the AC filter circuits is accurately modeled. The program is then augmented by adding an optimization routine. It can identify the optimal filter configuration, yielding the minimum current distortion factor at the AC network terminals for a pre-specified fundamental reactive power to be provided by the filter. In other respects the switched reluctance drive offers distinct advantages. In a previous paper, the authors described a new technique for the cancellation of radial vibrations of the stator. This new technique was limited to power converters offering a zero voltage freewheel path. This paper describes further development of the technique which allows noise cancellation to be achieved with all types of power converter. The techniques disclosed in this paper include a smoothing method, a three stage commutation method for converters with one switch per phase and a noise cancellation technique suitable for switched reluctance drives incorporating an extended zero voltage freewheel period for improved efficiency. Two springs are used by the actuator to form an oscillatory system with the moving mass. Besides, to reduce eddy current losses, a rectangular system with a laminated iron core is used. The proposed structure combines permanent magnets with a reluctant system to produce the 300 W mechanical power over a 13 mm stroke fed directly from a single phase 60 Hz outlet. Ferrite magnets are used due to its low price leading to a minimum actuator cost. A mathematical model was developed to study the dynamic performance of the device. The simulation of the actuator's dynamics shows that the main design criteria where correct and that the load requirements where satisfied.","PeriodicalId":117576,"journal":{"name":"IAS '95. The novel technique is based on inserting a chopper MOSFET switch across a six-pulse diode bridge at the neutral point of stator windings. The essence of the technique is that by chopping the stator current in an ON/OFF synchronized fashion with supply phase voltage, the stator applied voltage and its frequency are modulated causing the motor speed to change. The advantage of the new scheme is the utilization of only one controlled device switch compared with other methods which employ more than one switch. The novel speed control scheme is used to smooth-start the induction motor without large inrush current as well as control of the induction motor speed. Furthermore, the proposed scheme is attempted to brake the induction motor in fast time. Both digital simulation and experimental prototype system results of an induction motor driven by the novel scheme are presented under different loading conditions.","PeriodicalId":117576,"journal":{"name":"IAS '95. Staroniewicz","doi":"10.1109/IAS.1995.530457","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/IAS.1995.530457","url":null,"abstract":"High voltage pulses of peak voltages U=5-75 kV and rise times t/sub p/=500-1300 ns were applied with repetition frequency f=1 Hz in order to cause the irreversible electroporation of Gram negative bacteria Yersinia enterocolitica (Y. enterocolitica). The bacteria were suspended in NaCl solution of pH=7.2 and conductivity /spl gamma/=0.8-1.3 S/m. The suspension was placed in glass tube immersed in the cylindrical electrode system gap filled with distilled water. Such an electrode system will protect the bacteria suspension from the chemical processes at the electrode-liquid interface due to conduction and prebreakdown phenomena. The current chopping electrode system was connected in parallel to the sample in order to avoid heat generation from direct discharge of the pulse through the suspension. The dependence of the survival ratio s=N/N/sub 0/ (the number of bacteria per cm/sup 3/ after pulse treatment, N, divided by the number of bacteria per cm/sup 3/ before treatment, N/sub 0/) of Y. enterocolitica on peak voltage of the pulse, number of pulses applied and on various rise times of pulses have been measured. The reduction by 6 orders of magnitude of Y. enterocolitica living cells per cm/sup 3/ was achieved. The results show that considerable inactivation of microbes can be achieved by the application of short (t/sub p/<1000 ns) high voltage pulses for bacteria suspension without directly exposing the bacteria suspension to the electrodes. It is therefore possible to use the electrode system proposed as a means for sterilization of liquid foods.","PeriodicalId":117576,"journal":{"name":"IAS '95.
