This system works as a decision support tool for water resource managers and combines the seven dimensions of sustainability with principles associated with integrated and participatory water management procedures. The indicator system was developed at the regional level, starting from the case of RH-VIII (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and the Regional District of Nanaimo (Vancouver Island, Canada). The article presents an example of the application of this methodology in the RH-IX/ERJ, where the lower course of the Paraíba do Sul river basin is located.We conclude that the the socio-environmental system (SSA) under study has positive aspects, but also weaknesses in relation to the sustainability principles that constitutes the thrivability appraisal, and suggest alternatives to overcome the detected challenges, taking advantage of its potential.","PeriodicalId":115879,"journal":{"name":"ENSUS2023 - XI Encontro de Sustentabilidade em Projeto","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125889377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can negatively affect people’s lives and businesses, but also create opportunities. In the state of Minas Gerais, the Environmental State Foundation (FEAM)) has developed a tool that measures municipalities’ climate change vulnerability, linking factors of exposure and sensitivity to damages, as well as adaptation capacity. In this study, a fund was designed aiming to operationalize Payment for Environmental Services as a mechanism to remunerate landowners in municipalities that have extreme climate vulnerability, with the objective of collecting financial resources from companies interested in investing in sustainability and allocating the balance of this transaction to these municipalities. In return, companies would generate carbon credits that can be sold in the market, creating revenue,improving corporate reputation and increasing social and environmental impact of their businesses.","PeriodicalId":115879,"journal":{"name":"ENSUS2023 - XI Encontro de Sustentabilidade em Projeto","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125980791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The incorporation of Sugarcane Bagasse Ash (SBC) in the production of concrete can present solutions for the use of this agro-industrial by-product and minimize environmental impacts arising from the removal of limestone in the production of cement, in addition to contributing to the reduction of emission of carbon dioxide and preserve natural deposits for cement production. This study aimed to use sugarcane bagasse ash in the addition and partial replacement of cement in the production of concrete. The specimens (TBs) were manufactured following the NBRs 7223 and 5738, in which a ratio was adopted: (1:1.98:3.23:0.61) as primary proposal (T1), and the replacement (T2) and addition (T3) of 5% of Portland cement by mass was performed. The ruptures of the specimens were performed by the compressive strength test of concrete cylindrical specimens at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days of age, after rectification. The results obtained show that it is feasible to use SBA, since the water/cement ratio and the percentage of mass to be replaced or added are appropriate, because both in the addition and the replacement of 5% cement by SBA obtained a gain in strength of concrete.","PeriodicalId":115879,"journal":{"name":"ENSUS2023 - XI Encontro de Sustentabilidade em Projeto","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129744302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
